Dibber, Bing, Rio, Siri

April 24, 2023

Dibber

Dibber with his new dad and mom, Joshua & Isha.

Our next adopters are a couple engaged to be married in a few months looking for their first dog together. We have a few dogs that we thought would fit their lifestyle, and all of them happened to be black boys from Ireland. It can be hard to tell them apart just looking at them, but they definitely showed off their unique personalities. The gentle soul that won them over though was one of our recent arrivals: Dibber! - Mike Forrest

Bing

Bing nka Darwin with new mom & dad, Lily & Will.

Our next adopters came a long way to meet our dogs, all the way from Calgary! Both grew up with dogs, but this is their first greyhound and first dog as a couple. They got to meet pups from all over, including the US, South Korea, Ireland, and Australia. They were able to narrow down their choices and were eventually won over by a big shy boy who recently arrived from Ireland. So our world traveler Bing (now Darwin) is now en route to his new home in Canada! - Mike Forrest

Rio

Rio with new mom & dad, Isabella & Mike.

One of our long-time turnout volunteers recently moved into a new home with a nice fenced yard and decided the time was finally right to adopt. When she and her partner came in, they already had a dog picked out, and all that was left was the difficult question of what color to pick for his new collar. Eventually they solved that problem, and so our Australian boy Rio is off to his new home sporting a nice shade of red! - Mike Forrest

Siri

Siri, nka Stella with new family, Skye & Scott.

Here’s another case where our adopters met their dog while doing kennel turnout volunteering, and in fact first found out about GPI because they are local and saw one of our Brightwater group walks. They previously had huskies, and this is their first greyhound. Doing turnout gave them the opportunity to meet most of our dogs, but I think they were won over pretty quickly to our blue girl from Ireland: Siri, now known as Stella. - Mike Forrest

Jonathan: April Dog of the Month

April 1, 2023

Please contact Moira Corrigan ([email protected]) for more information about Jonathan.

Jonathan
Tag No: 6917
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Lurcher
Date of Birth: April 12, 2018
Color: Red Fawn
Cat Friendly: No
Dog Friendly: See Comments
Kid Friendly: No young children
Location: Foster Home
Comments: Jonathan is in a foster home and doing fabulously!!! His foster mom reports that he is very intelligent, and eager to learn. He is very treat motivated, so that helps tremendously. He likes to go for walks and walks well on leash. He likes food toys or a licky mat with pieces of hot dogs or peanut butter. He likes stuffed animals, although he does like to remove the stuffing and disassemble them 🙂 His favorite toy outside is a Jolly Ball. He also like to chase and retrieve tennis balls. Activity wise his foster mom calls him a "medium". Jonathan is house broken, can do stairs, and although he whines for a little bit when his foster mom leaves, he soon settles down. He is ok in a crate, but it is not his favorite thing. He can be a little nippy and jumpy when he gets overly stimulated, so we don't recommend him with younger children. He is fine encountering other dogs when he is out and about as long as he and the other dog are leashed and he feels secure. He does get unsettled when other dogs approach him if he/they are unleashed. Jonathan is delightful, fun and eager to please. He is in a townhouse with a small fenced area at the moment and does well as long as he gets his walks and play time. Jonathan would do best in a home without cats and as an only dog. Won't you be his forever home?

Jet, Daisy, Ambrosia, Frannie

February 20, 2023

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Jet

Jet (left) with new mom, Turtle and new brother, Cobi

This adopter is a long-time GPI volunteer who moved to Oregon several years ago. She made the trip up with her greyhound Cobi who had recently lost his canine companion. We introduced Cobi to several different boys & girls and he got along with all of them. That means that it was up to mom to make the difficult decision of who to bring home. Since she’s a retired flight attendant, it makes sense that she picked our Irish boy Jet! – Mike Forrest

Daisy

Daisy with new dad, Aaron

This adopter today didn’t come quite as far, making the trip up from Vancouver, Washington. He grew up with a dog, but this is his first greyhound and his first dog that is all his own. He got to meet several of our recent arrivals from Ireland. One in particular made a great first impression by introducing herself with some vigorous tail wagging, and she sealed the deal with a game of fetch (well, the greyhound version of “fetch” anyway) outside in the yard. So our world traveler Daisy is off to her new home! – Mike Forrest

Ambrosia

Ambrosia (left) with her new family, Wilson & Kennedy with new brother, Dax, fka Savage

These adopters are long-time greyhound owners looking for a new companion for their boy Dax (fka Savage) who they adopted about a year and a half ago. They felt that he’d do best with a girl, so we introduced them to several greyhounds and mixes of all ages and sizes. The dogs did a great job of showing off their wide range of personalities, and Dax got along great with all of them. But it was one of our younger girls that really connected with him and her new mom & dad, showing off her playful happy self chasing a ball out in the rain with Dax. So our California girl Ambrosia was soon headed home with her new family! – Mike Forrest

Frannie

Frannie with new family, Quinn, Zoe, Brett & Julianna

Sometimes it takes a while for our more active, energetic young dogs to find the right home. We are so fortunate to have dedicated staff and volunteers that spend time with these dogs providing the enrichment and training that they need while they wait for their people to arrive. Well today a family with two teenagers came in looking for a dog that could keep up with their active lifestyle. They got to meet and spend some quality play time with several of our residents. But one happy lurcher girl stole their hearts, and while we will all miss Frannie at the kennel I know we’re all delighted to see her find her home! – Mike Forrest

Cooper, Elsie, Jane, Aladdin, Sven, Babes

January 30, 2023

Cooper

Cooper (right) with his new family, Kim, Thomas & John with new sibling Candy

These adopters include one of our kennel employees, and they have had several of our dogs. They have a shy greyhound named Candy so they were looking for another dog that could get along with that sort of personality. The one that they chose (or that chose them) is also on the shy side and gets along great with the rest of the family. So today they made it official and adopted our Irish boy Cooper! – Mike Forrest

Elsie

Elsie with new mom, Angie and friend, Edie

The next adopter has two cats and a 10-year-old terrier named Edie, so our options for a greyhound match were pretty limited. The first boy we introduced was a little too much for Edie to handle so he took himself out of the running. Fortunately our other cat-trainable greyhound did a much better job of introducing herself. She greeted Edie politely and pretty quickly turned her focus onto her new mom. She must have made a good impression because Elsie and company were soon loaded up and on their way to her new home! – Mike Forrest

Jane

Jane (right) with her new family, Phil and Allison with her new brother, Rod

These adopters have had several greyhounds, and came in to find a new friend for their white & brindle boy Rod. His previous buddy was a girl from Australia who sadly passed a few months back. We just happen to have a couple of Australian girls of our own, and Rod got along with both of them. So it was up to the couple to decide who to bring home. They picked the one that gives great hugs, whether you’re ready for them or not: Jane! – Mike Forrest

Aladdin

Aladdin nka Sam with his new family, Katie & Brad

Anyone who has been to the kennel knows our miracle boy Aladdin. He has survived traps, malnutrition, heartworm treatments, a multitude of medical treatments and surgeries, including removal of a lung lobe, paw treatments, a leg amputation, and bloat surgery. Aladdin has handled all of these with such grace, gentleness and sweetness. He now has his forever home!! Go Aladdin!! (nka Sam) We couldn’t be happier for you! – Moira Corrigan

Sven

Sven (left) with his new family, Carla & Bill with Skubi, fka Scooby

These adopters lost their Italian Greyhound girl in November and were looking for a new small companion for their 5 year old greyhound Skubi. It’s very rare for us to get any IGs in, but we do have a few whippet mixes. The one they came to meet arrived at GPI from Hawaii back in May and has been waiting for his people ever since. But he doesn’t help his own cause because his usual reaction to meeting new people is to bark loudly at them. He did a great job today though, immediately making friends with Skubi and politely introducing himself to the rest of the family. And then after spending some time getting to know each other, Sven & company headed off to his new home! – Mike Forrest

Babes

Babes with her new mom and dad, Donna & Jeff

A couple came in from eastern Washington looking for a greyhound to add to their family, and we were happy to oblige. They have had a greyhound before, a boy named Orzo, who passed away last year. They got to meet several of our dogs who all did a great job of showing off their personalities, but they ended up going home with the one that originally caught their eye on our web site: Babes! – Mike Forrest

Blake, Alison, Tuck

Blake

Blake with his new family, Antonio & James

The people who came in this day have had a few greyhounds before and wanted to meet some of our younger, more active dogs. We were happy to introduce a bunch of them, since our more energetic dogs sometimes get overlooked in favor of the calmer ones. All of the dogs that came out did a great job of introducing themselves and showing off their personalities. But one Irish boy had that right mix of playful and affectionate that really sealed the deal. So Blake is off to his new home in Tacoma! – Mike Forrest

Alison

Alison (family photo not available)

These folks have been a greyhound family for many years and adopted several dogs from GPI. They lost their last two greyhounds in recent months and the house was empty without a greyhound, so the search was on for another greyhound to fill their hearts and home. And with that, Alison (who came from Australia) made her way to her new home in Alaska! – Moira Corrigan

Tuck

Tuck with his new family, Chris & Sapphire

Our first adopters of 2023 are new to the area and recently lost their greyhound Bella. They started volunteering with us doing turnout, which is a wonderful way to get to know the dogs in our care. They decided who they wanted to adopt but couldn’t until after the holidays. So after what I’m sure was an excruciating wait, today they were ready to bring home our senior lurcher Tuck who I know will be spoiled rotten in his new home! – Mike Forrest
