George, Breanna, Crystal, Buster

George

George with his new mom, Shelley

When this Lady gave us a description of the dog she would like to get, the first thing she said was that she wanted a “goofy” dog. We immediately knew which dog would be going home with her! We did show her a few different options, but she fell in love with our goofiest guy — a darling black guy from Australia named George!!

Breanna

Breanna with her new parents, Sam & Elizabeth

This couple was looking for a girl and, even though we didn’t have a lot of girls, we sure had some special ones for them to meet. And, just for fun, we also showed them a few boys. They had narrowed their choices down to two girls and one boy, but after time in the yard, it was down to just the two girls. Really, it was almost impossible for any of the dogs to compete with this dog — she had the softest bunny fur we have encountered in quite a while (with the exception of her sister’s whose fur was just a touch softer). The couple left with Breanna and my guess is that they haven’t stopped patting her yet!!

Crystal

Crystal, nka Lily, with her new parents, Paul & Sydney, and her new fur buddies, Winston & Iggy

When someone comes in with 2 small dogs, Italian Greyhounds in this case, we know that we are going to be showing quite a few dogs in order to find the “small dog friendly” ones. That is exactly what happened and, in all the dogs we showed, we only came across 2 that we felt were solid possibilities. And, truthfully, one of them screened herself out because she was just a little too interested in the Iggies when we went outside. With all that being said, this couple really lucked out because they ended up with a dog that was a big time “kennel favorite”. This wonderful fawn girl from Australia was incredibly gentle with the small dogs and, in fact, most of the time she didn’t even pay any attention to them. Crystal, nka Lily, will be a greyt addition to the family!!!

Buster

Buster with his new parents, Jason & Laura

This couple has been through a lot in the last couple of months. They moved here from Chicago and shortly thereafter had to send their Greyhound to the Bridge (he had lung cancer for a long time). Hopefully, the stress and sadness of the last couple of months is behind them and they can go forward with their new family member — that very handsome black boy from Ireland, Buster!!

Colt, Pippa, Cathy, Woolie

Colt

Colt with his new dads, Tom and Larry

These men have already had a couple of our dogs and lost their last one a while ago. It took some time for them to get ready for another dog but the time had come for a new family member. They have a history of adopting some of our dogs that aren’t quite as easily adoptable (they aren’t bad — some have health issues, behavior idiosyncrasies & things like that). This time they fell for one of our very striking dogs (white and blue) from South Korea who has more energy and oomph than four of our racing Greyhounds put together!! That didn’t phase these men at all. Amazingly, when he left the kennel, he practically turned into a pussycat. Obviously, Colt found the perfect home for himself!

Pippa

Pippa with her new dad, Eric

This man has been looking for a smaller dog and, since we have been getting smaller ones from Hawaii, he has been keeping an eye on our website for potential adoption possibilities. When this little girl showed up on the web, he hopped right on it. He got his home visit done and made an appointment to come meet her as fast as he could. This girl was pretty shy so it took her a little while to warm up to him, but, when she did, you could tell that the meeting was the start of something good. After the meeting, the only thing left to do was for him to take Pippa home!

Cathy

Cathy – her official GPI portrait

Both of the dogs that were just adopted came to us from Ireland and they both did well in our cat testing. Bravo!! The First Lady needed a new friend for her 10 year old black Greyhound and she came to meet one specific dog. This particular dog has been pretty shy and our hopes were that she would find a home with another dog and an experienced owner. We were very lucky — that describes her new family to a “T” and her new mom felt Cathy was as good a fit for them as they were for her!! (Sorry, no family photo)

Woolie

Woolie (left), nka Themoc (an Aztec god), with his new family … Irma, Etzi, Elmer & Chanel (mother of Ace, Clover & Little Bit)

The second family had wanted a Greyhound for an extremely long time and it finally seemed that all the things that were standing in their way were gone. Last year, we had 3 puppies from Mexico (Ace, Clover & Little Bit) and it turned out that this family has their mother, Chanel, who was needing a companion. The daughter was very excited to meet one specific dog that she was already in love with. Sensibly, her parents wanted to see a couple of more dogs before they made their decision, but in the end, they chose the same one their daughter had picked — Woolie who is now known as Themoc which is the name of an Aztec god.

Chrissy, Fox, Mary, Blanche

Chrissy

Chrissy, nka Cannoli, with her new parents Derek and Liz

This little girl had some challenges that she had to get through before she could be adopted. Shortly after she came to us from Hawaii, we noticed her foot was turning sideways because one of the bones in her leg was growing faster than the other. She actually needed two surgeries to get her leg back to normal and the process has taken over 6 months but she finally has been cleared for adoption. I do want to point out that it has truly taken an army … the kennel staff, volunteers, 3 foster homes … to get her through this (not to mention a boat load of meds we tried because nothing seemed to keep her from jumping around on the leg!!) She is about a month away from being able to really run and we can’t wait to see videos. Her most recent foster family knew when they took her home that she was the one for them but they just had to wait until we got clearance from the vet that her leg was healed. Thankfully, we just got that and Chrissy, nka Cannoli, could become an official member of their family!!!

Fox

Fox with his new mom, Cathy

This lady from Canada lost her last Greyhound shortly before COVID and had made a decision to come get another dog the day before the Canadian border closed. So, she has been waiting a very long time to get her new family member. It was definitely worth the wait! She got to meet many of our new arrivals and, while she wavered for a minute, she knew from the minute she met one of the dogs from Australia that he was the one for her. This very striking guy (black with white markings) did a greyt job of showing how calm & affectionate he is — how could she not choose Fox??

Mary

Mary (right) with her new family … Andy, Vicki & Lucky (fka Charm)

When a family meets the right dog for them, it is so obvious, it is almost impossible not to know it. That’s what happened with this family. We brought the dog out and she immediately looked like she fit in with the people and their dog, Lucky (fka Charm). The dogs truly looked like they had been best friends for years! When we got outside, it was even more obvious — the family spent about 5 minutes in the yard and then said she was the one. Shortly thereafter, our gorgeous, black girl from Australia, Mary, was on her way to Oregon.

Blanche

Blanche with her new parents, Megan & Joey

This couple has amazing willpower!! The man has been doing turnout for 4 years and has been telling his fiancé about the dogs all this time and, yet, they resisted adopting. They wanted to move to a different place and get all settled before they actually got a dog. The right day finally came and they met some cutie pies — anybody would have had a hard time making a decision. It really didn’t take very long for them to make their decision — they chose a beautiful white/brindle girl named Blanche (she just happens to have the softest bunny fur – we thought that might have helped them decide on her)!!

Banjo, Izzy, Cane, Cloe

Banjo

Banjo, nka Bailey, with his new family … Jason, Julia and Pig

There was really very little for us to do with this couple. They came knowing exactly who they wanted and he was the only dog that they wanted to see. Thank heavens he lived up to their expectations … he schmoozed better than almost any dog we have had and he got along great with their Chihuahua mix, Pig. So, Banjo, nka Bailey, headed home with his new family!!

Izzy

Izzy with her new parents Anita & Alan

This couple recently lost their “perfect” Greyhound and they were missing that Greyhound energy in their home. We needed to remind them that their new dog wasn’t going to be anything like the last one so they needed to try really hard not to compare the dogs to her. They did a greyt job as they met a few very different dogs. When all was said and done, they took home the dog that made it clearly known that she was interested in them, Izzy (our stunning black Lurcher from the Midwest)!

Cane

Cane (left) with his new family … April, Steve & Flacco (fka Paco)

This couple recently lost their older Greyhound and their remaining boy, Flacco (fka Paco), was feeling lonely. So, naturally, they thought that he needed a new brother or sister. When they got Flacco, he was a very active young boy and they were thinking they would like a dog that was a little calmer. I’m sure you’ve guessed that the dog they took home, Cane, was just as active as Flacco was in the beginning!!

Cloe

Cloe with her new parents Niall & Graeme

This couple was from the Capitol Hill area and they needed a dog that was “easy”! We just had a beautiful fawn girl come back from a foster home where she was exposed to everything and absolutely nothing seemed to bother her. Thankfully, the potential parents and the dog took one look at each other and it was love at first sight (I can’t tell you how shocked we would have been if that hadn’t been what happened). So, Miss Cloe has found her new family and will no doubt be spoiled rotten!!

Kai, Sally, Heidi, Loo-Loo, April

Kai

Kai with his new parents Melanie and Shane

This couple came from all the way from Vancouver Island to adopt one of our dogs! They needed a dog that could get along with their older cat and, for once, we actually had a few dogs for them to meet. After meeting every one of our “cat friendly” dogs and playing with several of them in the yard and the adoption center, they decided on our darling puppy from Hawaii. The truth is that it would have been almost impossible not to fall in love with Kai after watching him play with his squeaky ball in the adoption center!!

Sally

Sally with her new parents Joy and Jacob

This couple came to adopt their first Greyhound. They had been here the day before but they just couldn’t decide between two of our beautiful girls so they had to go home and discuss things. Thankfully, they were able to come to an agreement and they came to pick up their new family member. I’m not sure who was more excited, the couple or our black Irish girl (who looks a little like a black lab !). All I know is that Sally couldn’t wait to get out of the door and on her way to her new home.

Heidi

Heidi with her new dad Zach

When most of our dogs are adopted, people come in, meet them, take them home and off they go. But for some of our dogs, to have the best results, the potential owners have to do some work before they adopt their dog. This man has done turnout for quite a while and he fell for a pretty fawn and white girl from South Korea. He knew that there were some issues that she needed to work on and he needed to know how to work on them with her so he initiated some “pre-training” sessions with our resident trainer. When he and the trainer felt that the dog was ready to go home, they decided to continue training sessions as soon as he got home. All that work paid off for both him and Miss Heidi and she is now living happily in her new home — Hooray for her and her new dad (and thanks to our trainer for all her help!)!

Loo-Loo

Loo-loo with her new parents Ryan & Kaitlyn

It seems like we have a lot of different types of dogs right now and most people come in looking for one type or another. However, this couple was open to meeting all shapes and sizes of dogs and we were happy to introduce them to a few. It actually didn’t take them long to narrow their choices down to 2 dogs, but it did take a while to make the final decision. The gorgeous brindle girl that they chose did a greyt job of trying to let them know that she had made her choice, but it took the couple a little while to understand what she was doing. When the “lightbulb” went on, they realized that our Lurcher from the mid-west , Loo-Loo, had to be their new family member.

April

April with her new family … Haley, Jakob and Petra

This couple has a two year old female Doberman, named Petra, that was definitely in need of a playmate. We weren’t quite sure what our dogs were going to think about a dobie, and we got some interesting reactions. A couple of our dogs let it be known quickly that they were not going to do well, but, luckily, we had a couple of girls that thought it would be fun to play with Petra. Actually, Petra and April hit it off immediately and had so much fun playing together that we knew quickly she would be heading north with her new family!!
