Nyx: January Dog of the Month

December 31, 2023

nyxtitle
Please contact Moira Corrigan ([email protected]) for more information about Nyx.

Nyx
Tag No: 7012
Registered Name: None
Breed: Whippet Mix
Date of Birth:  Approx March 1, 2021
Color: Black
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Loves the company of other dogs.
Kid Friendly: No
Weight  35 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments:  Nyx is darling. He can be timid and fearful at first, but once he is comfortable, he is sweet, affectionate and playful.  He loves being with other dogs and people, once he is comfortable.  Nyx can be easily startled, so we do not recommend him in a home with children.  He was found chained to a wooden kennel with dirt floors and it seems that is where he had spent his life, poor guy.  He will need a calm, quieter home and environment.  Nyx is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome and will need one without cats.

Nala, Donnie, Vada, Sinead, Linus, Marty, Rami

December 22, 2023

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Nala

Nala nka as Nellie and new mom, Sue.

This adopter is another long-time greyhound owner. Her girl Amber passed away several months ago, and she decided the time was right to look for a new companion. We introduced a couple of our dogs, but she was uncertain because they were a little too aloof for her. Well the happy, bouncy Irish girl that came out next must have heard us talking because she immediately pranced up and started giving her new mom kisses. And if you have met this girl then you’ve probably already guessed that it must be Nala, now known as Nellie! – Mike Forrest

Donnie

Donnie aka Donatello with new Dad Mark & Mom Anita.

You may recognize this little guy from a recent adoption notice – unfortunately things didn’t work out between him and the other dog in the house. Fortunately we get a lot of applications whenever we get in an Italian Greyhound, and this time was no exception. Today’s adopters are very experienced with I.G.’s, having previously owned three, and have been looking for a new companion. I think Donnie (now short for Donatello) is excited to fill that role! – Mike Forrest

Vada

Vada, nka Vida with new dad & mom, Douglas & Lisa with Max.

This adoption has been a long time coming. When this girl arrived 18 months ago nobody thought it would take long for her to find her new family. But for whatever reason the right situation never came along. Well, that is all history now and Vada (now Vida) is joining her new greyhound brother Max (fka Trigger) in her new home! – Mike Forrest

Sinead

Sinead nka Orla with new parents Chris & Drew.

These adopters have been patiently waiting for the right dog to come in for the better part of a year. They have two cats, so finding the right match has been extra challenging. But recently we got in a girl from West Virginia who fit the bill, so they quickly came to meet her. Today they made it official and Sinead, now known as Orla, headed out with her new family! – Mike Forrest

Linus

Linus (L), Blue, Brewster, Major & Greta

This adoption has been in the works for a little bit because we needed to make sure that this guy got along with the rest of his new pack. He was previously turned into our group due to a bad case of separation anxiety, but with four other dogs around this doesn’t
seem to be a problem! Please join me and Blue, Brewster, Major and Greta in welcoming Linus to his new pack! – Mike Forrest

Marty

Marty with new mom, Nancy.

This recent adopter came all the way from central Oregon to find a new greyhound companion. She had a greyhound growing up and other dogs since then, but hadn’t had a dog for several years now. We introduced her to a few greyhounds and a couple of mixes, but it was the greyhounds that she really connected with. And one in particular: a handsome, playful brindle boy who recently arrived into our care from West Virginia – Marty! – Mike Forrest

Rami

Rami (L) with new mom, Nanz, foster Lucky (on right) and Fern in front.

This adoption was to a family of long-time greyhound owners and GPI volunteers. They recently lost their boy Coco, and their girl Fern needed a new buddy. They got maybe a little more than they bargained for though and ended up with two new additions! The first is GPI foster girl Lucky who came to us from Bahrain. And now they’ve adopted Rami who originally came to us from the UAE! – Mike Forrest

Aurora: December Dog of the Month

December 1, 2023

auroratitle
Please contact Moira Corrigan ([email protected]) for more information about Aurora.

Aurora
Tag No: 6948
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Mix
Date of Birth:  Approx March 2019
Color: Black
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Weight: 70 pounds
Location: Foster home.
Comments: Aurora is absolutely darling!!!  She is very affectionate and friendly!  Aurora LOVES belly rubs and loves to be outside and sunbathe!  She has been in a foster home since the beginning of May and is doing wonderfully.  She lives with another greyhound and a smaller dog and does really well with both.  Her foster mom says she loves to cuddle and if you sit on the floor with her, she will rest her head on you somehow.  Aurora loves balls, not to fetch but to squeak!  She has the cutest stretch, and yawns and makes a funny sound when she does.  She is so sweet and wants to please.  Her foster mom has taught her to sit and is working on "paw".  Aurora is eager to please and loves playing with toys.  She walks well on leash (most of the time - on occasion she can be quite strong) and loves her walks.  Aurora does have a high prey drive when she sees something move outside, so she needs someone who can continue her training (she works well with redirection).  There are two other dogs in her foster home, and they like to play fight - Aurora doesn't get involved when they do, but if she does, she likes to slap with her paws and since she is so strong, she could hurt a small dog, but if you tell her to stop, she does!  She has done well on her housebreaking.  She also eats well and is not protective of her food.  Aurora is really good in the car and mostly sleeps.  Her foster mom thinks she will do well with other dogs and/or children as she has poked and prodded and done all the things a greyhound often doesn't like, and Aurora has not reacted at all!  What a sweetie!  Aurora may be ok as an only dog, but she does not like to be crated.  Aurora will need a home without cats and with someone who can manage her strength.   This is one special girl - such a cuddle bug - someone is missing out on this sweetheart!

Edie, Kale, Tully, Domino

November 20, 2023

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Edie

Edie with new Dad & Mom Rich & Nancy & Strider, the German Shepherd.

These adopters came in looking for a companion for themselves and their 12-year-old German Shepherd named Strider. They previously had a greyhound and came to us for another. The girl they chose had been returned to us because of a bad case of separation anxiety, but that hopefully won’t be an issue now since her new mom & dad both work from home and like to take the dogs RV’ing. Plus she will now have a new BIG brother to keep her company (see photo!) Congratulations to Edie and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Kale

Kale with her new mom & dad, Karen & Steven.

These recent adopters have adopted four greyhounds from GPI over the past several decades but did not have any currently. They are both retired now and looking for a new greyhound companion. As previous greyhound owners they had a pretty good idea of what they were looking for so we were able to narrow the list down. The dog that chose them put on a great show when she came out to meet them – now our sweet Australian girl Kale has a new home! – Mike Forrest

Tully

Tully with Boo (dog), Joey, Mom Denise, Elena & Dad Tony.

This family are also long-time greyhound owners, having had six over the years. Their current girl Boo who they’ve had for about four years seemed a little lonely after they lost their other girl Cali, so they came in looking for a new family member and companion. We introduced them to several of our greyhounds, and I think Boo was a little worn out by the process! But fortunately, she got along great with our big boy and champion leaner from Australia: Tully! – Mike Forrest

Domino

Domino with new Mom & Dad, Mary & Bob.

These adopters have had four of our greyhounds, with their last one passing away at age 13 a couple of months ago. We talked over a lot of the options for dogs we have right now and introduced them to a couple that sounded promising. One big boy really caught their eye and made a great first impression, so after some quality time with him in the yard they decided to make it official and adopt our handsome 80lb puppy Domino! – Mike Forrest
