Liba, Billy, Olive, Blossom, Diego

September 10, 2023

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Liba

Liba, nka Poppi, (Right) with her new family, Dad Bill & Brother Jake, with Skubi fka Scooby (Left) and Svengamin fka Sven (Middle)

These adopters have been on the lookout for a smaller dog for quite some time. They’ve had retired racer Skubi (fka Scooby) for several years, and then adopted Sven (now Svengamin Buttons) from us back in January. When they saw that a small senior girl had come into our care they knew they had to meet her. It didn’t take very long for her to fit right into the pack with Skubi, Sven, and the rest of the family. So now it’s official and little Liba has a new home! – Mike Forrest

Billy

Billy with his new family, Andrey, Anastasia & Sasha.

These adopters are a family with a 10 year old daughter who has wanted a dog for a couple of years, and who has even been saving up her allowance to pay the adoption fee! This is their first family dog, and they got to meet a bunch of greyhounds and mixes on a walk at Brightwater. The dog that seemed like a natural fit for them is a sweet, fun boy who came to us via Team Inch from South Korea – it’s Billy! – Mike Forrest

Olive

Olive with her new family, Melissa, Marcus & Dameon.

Our next family recently lost their coonhound and came in looking for a smaller family dog. They have two teenagers so they should have no problem keeping an active, younger dog entertained. They got to meet a couple of our smaller pups, but quickly narrowed it down to one playful girl who also came to us from South Korea via Team Inch: Olive! – Mike Forrest

Blossom

Blossom (Right) with new mom & dad, Mark & Julia with Reggie fka Ryo (Left) & Coop.

These recent adopters came in with their greyhound Reggie (fka Ryo) and Australian cattle dog Coop looking for a new member of their pack. They have had several greyhounds before so they had a good idea of what they were looking for, and just needed to make sure that they got along with Coop & Reggie. We introduced them to a few of our girls, and quickly found one who seemed to have the right energy level to keep up with Coop. After some introductions & play time outside we all came back in and she and Reggie both laid down on the rug while we were doing paperwork, with Coop keeping an eye on things. I think our Irish girl Blossom will have a great time with her new family! – Mike Forrest

Diego

Diego nka Loki with new mom, Anne (Right), new dad, Lloyd with Rock (Left) & Lilly on dog bed.

These next adopters are two of our long-time volunteers. They have had a pack of three greyhounds for a while, but sadly lost one of them earlier this year. They have been waiting and keeping an eye out for the right hound to come along, and sure enough he did! And from what I’ve heard, Irish brindle boy Diego, now known as Loki, is fitting right in with his new pack mates, Lily and Rock!

Jet, Storm

Jet

Jet with new mom, Brenda.

This adoption was to a woman in the Vancouver BC area whose senior greyhound passed away recently. She also has three smaller dogs that like having a greyhound companion, so it was important that we find a hound that could quickly become part of the pack. It took some trying, but we eventually managed to find one boy who did great with smaller dogs and who we think will fit right in with his new siblings: our Irish boy Jet! – Mike Forrest

Storm

Storm with his new dad, Eric.

This recent adoption was by a long-time volunteer who frequently takes our dogs out on walks at Brightwater. This is a great way to meet a bunch of different dogs and get to know them, and in this case he met one he wanted to bring home with him – our happy Irish boy Storm! – Mike Forrest

Pablo, Cher, Jude

Pablo

Pablo with new parents, Susan & Scott and Whippet sister, Fleur.

Our first July adopters are experienced greyhound and sighthound owners who came in looking for a companion for Fleur, their whippet. They met a couple of our dogs but felt that a senior greyhound would be the best match for everybody, so they ended up bringing home the hound that caught their eye when they first looked at our web site: 9 year old Pablo! – Mike Forrest

Cher

Cher with new mom, Karen.

This adopter is recently retired and has been volunteering with us for a while. She has been patiently waiting for a cat trainable dog to come in, and fortunately we had one arrive a couple of weeks ago from Ireland. So after a brief wait until after the holiday, Cher headed off to her new home! – Mike Forrest

Jude

Jude with new parents, Jennifer & Spencer.

These adopters are a couple who have not had greyhounds before, but who had a whippet mix and a lab/shepherd mix both of which passed away last year. They live near several parks and trails and were looking for a more active dog that will enjoy exploring with them. We have plenty of young, active pups at the kennel right now so they got to meet quite a variety of dogs! The one that stole the show is a sweet, playful three-year-old boy from Australia who is always up for a game of fetch: Jude! – Mike Forrest

Sophie, Bolt

Sophie & Bolt

Sophie & Bolt with new mom & dad, Sarah & Chris.

This adoption has been a while in the making. The adopters are experienced dog owners, including one of our greyhounds, and they are also long-time turnout volunteers. They got in touch with us about a month ago asking about a specific pair of dogs and whether they would be the right fit for their family. The two dogs are brother & sister greyhound/shepherd mixes who came to us from South Korea a little over a year ago. They are bonded to each other but were very afraid of people when they arrived, and it has taken a lot of work with our dedicated staff & volunteers for them to become more comfortable. We wanted to make sure that these two have the best chance in their new home, so over the last several weeks the adopters have been coming to the kennel to work with our trainer and get everybody used to being around each other. Today was finally the big day though, and we’re all super excited to see Sophie & Bolt heading off to their new home and new adventures! – Mike Forrest

Bomee, Threepence, Ed, Jonathan

Bomee

Bomee nka Essun with new parents, Jillian & Will.

These recent adopters have been on our waiting list for quite a while for a cat friendly dog, but I’d say the wait was worth it! This little girl was rescued by our friends at Team Inch in South Korea. She was one of 50 animals rescued in February from a bad breeder situation, and she made her way to us a couple of weeks ago. Despite everything she’s a super friendly, happy girl and did great when we introduced her to a cat. Today Bomee (now going by Essun) is enjoying life in Seattle with her new family! – Mike Forrest

Threepence

Threepence nka Penny with her new family: Stefanie with her dog, Reno, Grandson Nathan, Mom Edeltraud & Dad Mason, Granddaughter Sydney

This adoption was a family affair. We had three generations on hand along with their Australian Shepherd Reno looking for a new greyhound companion. We introduced a couple of our boys first, but they didn’t work out as well as we hoped. So we tried out one of our girls and it went great! And now they have an Australian Shepherd and an Australian Greyhound – Threepence, now known as Penny! – Mike Forrest

Ed

Ed (left) with new parents, Roy & Monica with doggie sister, Biscuit.

These adopters are long time GPI adopters and volunteers. They have been fostering this little guy for the last month or so, working with him to help build up his confidence. Well as you know sometimes fostering turns into something more, and that’s exactly what happened here. So let’s all welcome our Hawaiian pup Ed into his new forever home where he is joining another Hawaiian girl Biscuit who they adopted a year and a half ago! – Mike Forrest

Jonathan

Jonathan with his new family, Francis, Charlotte, Bryan, Elizabeth & Paul.

A family with four kids came in looking for a fun family dog. We have some of those! We tried introducing one of our young puppy-age dogs but he was maybe a little TOO fun. They also got to meet one of our calmer greyhounds, but they were hoping for a ball player and this guy wasn’t really interested. The lucky dog that they ended up bringing home with them is a super fun boy from the American Lurcher Project who loves to play with a ball and even brings it back to you sometimes: Jonathan! – Mike Forrest
