Bomee

Bomee nka Essun with new parents, Jillian & Will.

These recent adopters have been on our waiting list for quite a while for a cat friendly dog, but I’d say the wait was worth it! This little girl was rescued by our friends at Team Inch in South Korea. She was one of 50 animals rescued in February from a bad breeder situation, and she made her way to us a couple of weeks ago. Despite everything she’s a super friendly, happy girl and did great when we introduced her to a cat. Today Bomee (now going by Essun) is enjoying life in Seattle with her new family! – Mike Forrest

Threepence

Threepence nka Penny with her new family: Stefanie with her dog, Reno, Grandson Nathan, Mom Edeltraud & Dad Mason, Granddaughter Sydney

This adoption was a family affair. We had three generations on hand along with their Australian Shepherd Reno looking for a new greyhound companion. We introduced a couple of our boys first, but they didn’t work out as well as we hoped. So we tried out one of our girls and it went great! And now they have an Australian Shepherd and an Australian Greyhound – Threepence, now known as Penny! – Mike Forrest

Ed

Ed (left) with new parents, Roy & Monica with doggie sister, Biscuit.

These adopters are long time GPI adopters and volunteers. They have been fostering this little guy for the last month or so, working with him to help build up his confidence. Well as you know sometimes fostering turns into something more, and that’s exactly what happened here. So let’s all welcome our Hawaiian pup Ed into his new forever home where he is joining another Hawaiian girl Biscuit who they adopted a year and a half ago! – Mike Forrest

Jonathan

Jonathan with his new family, Francis, Charlotte, Bryan, Elizabeth & Paul.

A family with four kids came in looking for a fun family dog. We have some of those! We tried introducing one of our young puppy-age dogs but he was maybe a little TOO fun. They also got to meet one of our calmer greyhounds, but they were hoping for a ball player and this guy wasn’t really interested. The lucky dog that they ended up bringing home with them is a super fun boy from the American Lurcher Project who loves to play with a ball and even brings it back to you sometimes: Jonathan! – Mike Forrest

Trip

Trip with new dad, Mike and Min Pin companion, Buster.

A man came in with his min-pin mix Buster looking for a new companion. He said that he has been considering adopting a greyhound over the last 20 years but the time has never been right. He recently lost his other dog, a lab/border collie mix, and Buster needed a new buddy. We don’t have a lot of dogs that are good with small critters, so fortunately the first (and only) dog we showed made a great impression and got along well with Buster. So just like that, our Australian boy Trip headed off to his new home! – Mike Forrest

Wonder

Wonder (right) with new sister May.

These adopters are long-time greyhound owners and GPI volunteers. They recently lost one of their two hounds to old age and decided it was time for a new friend for their girl May. She is a shy girl who needs some confidence, so we had to find another dog who wouldn’t be too overwhelming for her. We had a few candidates but there was one that stood out. He is a handsome blue fawn boy from Australia who we think will also really benefit from having another greyhound around: Wonder! – Mike Forrest

Tigger

Tigger with new dad, Richard.

This adoption was by another of our turnout volunteers. He originally thought about adopting back in January, but at the time his living situation was not a good fit for a new greyhound. Fast forward a few months and a new load of dogs arrived from Australia. One of these new hounds made a strong connection with the volunteer who quickly accelerated his plans to find a greyhound-friendly apartment. That all came together this week, and tonight our Australian dark brindle boy Tigger is snoozing in their new home! – Mike Forrest

Carmen

Carmen nka Nutmeg with new parents, Barbara and Cris with new sister, Coda.

A couple came in recently with a one-year-old Blue Lacy mix puppy named Coda. They recently lost their senior Dachshund and Coda needed a new playmate. They thought that one of our smaller dogs would be a better match for her, so we introduced them to several. It turned out that the boys that they met had a little too much energy for Coda, but our fun little girl from Hawaii was a great match. So Carmen, now known as Nutmeg, has a new home and a new friend! – Mike Forrest

Whinney

Whinney with new dad & mom, Jeremy & Alison.

It had been a little while since our last adoption so we were happy to see a couple come in ready to bring home a new hound. They recently lost their greyhound girl Wren, and had done their homework by meeting some dogs at our kennel open house a couple of weeks ago. We introduced them to five of our boys, some of whom they had met previously, but I don’t think any of us were surprised that they ended up bringing home an Australian boy who has been very popular among our staff & volunteers: Whinney! – Mike Forrest

Kip

Kip (left) with his new family, Abbey & Jaileen with Golden doodle, Samson.

A couple came in with their goldendoodle Samson looking to add a greyhound to their family. One of them had previously had a greyhound years ago, but this would is a first for Samson. Fortunately the first dog they asked to meet got along great with everybody, and after some get-to-know-you time they were soon playing happily out in the yard. We tried introducing a different hound, but it just wasn’t the same so Samson and family headed off with the latest addition to their family, Kip! – Mike Forrest

Jetty

Jetty with his new mom & dad, Dorna & Max.

A couple looking for their first dog together came into our kennel open house a few weeks ago and met a bunch of our hounds. Well soon after that they got their application in and their home visit done, and they came back to adopt! They got to meet a few more dogs, but it was one of the boys that met during the open house that really made a connection with them. So they headed home with our Irish boy with the racing stripe down his nose: Jetty! – Mike Forrest

Clancy, Dratini, Heidi

May 8, 2023

Clancy

Clancy with new dad and mom, Josh and Dorothy.

A couple came in recently who have previously had two of our greyhounds, Pace and Lark. She is a Pilates instructor and brings her dog to work with her, so we needed to find a hound who won’t mind hanging out in a quiet studio during the day. We had several options, and after spending some time outside on a beautiful afternoon with each one they decided to bring home our handsome blue brindle boy from Australia: Clancy! – Mike Forrest

Dratini

Dratini, nka Oji (right), Evan & Gwen with Kuro.

A couple from the Vancouver BC area came in with their 10-year-old greyhound girl Kuro (fka Sharpie). They have had four of our greyhounds going back over 20 years, and were looking for a new companion for Kuro. The first boy we brought out immediately connected with both Kuro and her people. We tried introducing them to a few other dogs too just to be sure, but none of them could compete with our big Australian boy Dratini, now known as Oji – Japanese for “Prince”. – Mike Forrest

Heidi

Heidi with Sophie (daughter), Gayle & Joe.

If you have been around GPI for a while, you know the beautiful Heidi from
South Korea. She was returned from her last home through no fault of hers and she has been patiently waiting for the right home to come along. Well she found it!!! Heidi went to her new home on Sunday and we couldn’t be more thrilled for Heidi or her new mom and dad! We don’t know who is more in love – Heidi or her new family – such a joy to see! – Moira Corrigan

Lady and Dino

Lady (left) & Dino with their new family, Yiyi & Zach.

This couple that came in recently had a greyhound that they lost a year ago, and they were ready to adopt again. But what’s better than adopting a greyhound? Adopting two greyhounds! They first picked out one of our Irish girls, Lady, who is super affectionate but has a case of separation anxiety. So the next step was to find a buddy for her. We introduced her and the couple to several of our boys, and Lady helped narrow it down to two. And the lucky dog that got to join this new pack is one of our last remaining U.S. greyhounds: Dino! – Mike Forrest

Artemis

Artemis with her new mom, Julie.

Recently, a woman came in from Tacoma looking for her first greyhound. She has thought about adopting one for the last 30 years, but has had other breeds in the meantime. She brought her list of dogs she wanted to meet, and we introduced her to a whole range of greyhounds and mixes. She got it narrowed down to three retired racers from Australia, and the lucky dog that won her over is our little girl Artemis! – Mike Forrest

Tiffany

Tiffany, (left) with her new family, Jessica with son, Kevin & greyhound sibling, Finn fka Brutus.

A woman and her son came in looking for a second greyhound to go along with Finn (fka Brutus) who they adopted last year. Their family recently lost their other greyhound Ginger. Finn is a big boy from Ireland who gets along with everybody, so it’s fitting that on St. Patrick’s Day he now has a new brindle buddy – Tiffany! – Mike Forrest
