Cossette

Cossette with her new mom, Anne Louise

This particular dog has been waiting for her new home for quite a while. The main reason is that when she first came to us, she was all puppy and needed a lot of work on her manners. Once again, our trainer, employees and volunteers jumped right in and started working with her. At this time she is a totally different dog!!! To say that she is a beautiful dog, is really an understatement — she is mainly blue with white markings. Recently, a lady contacted me and said she wanted a very active dog and she was used to that kind of behavior because of the dog she just had. I told her this dog was almost exactly like the one she described and she decided she wanted to come meet her. I don’t know that it was love at first sight, but it was pretty obvious that they quickly made a connection and the odds were good that they were going to be best buddies. We are so happy that the lady saw the things we did and are thrilled that Cosette officially has a new mom!!

Misty

Misty with her new parents, Mary Ellen & Mitch

A couple from Oregon, who have had numerous Greyhounds, were ready for their next one. They actually fell completely in love with a dog from the website and were hoping they would be able to adopt him. Unfortunately, the couple and the dog were unable to make a connection so we needed to go to plan “b”. They had some ideas about dogs they wanted to meet so we got started. Truly, we didn’t really get past the first candidate. They knew right away that they wanted our beautiful white & brown, Australian girl — Misty.

Tornado

Tornado, nka Finley (a great Irish choice), with his new family  – Devin, Brittany & Evie

This family has a 2 year old daughter so it was imperative that we find the “right” dog. When they first came to us, their timing was a little more stretched out than we usually encounter, because they have some trips planned. We told them that we had 2 dogs we thought might work for them and that if they were interested, they needed to move quickly. Luckily for them, they took us seriously and now they have our gorgeous, Irish boy, Tornado, nka Finley.

Red

Red with his new family  – Audrey & Skylar

Doing turnout could have a big impact on your dog ownership!! This couple started doing turnout recently and they did exactly what we hope will happen -they fell in love with one of our residents. They bonded quickly and it wasn’t long after the couple left turnout that I got an email wanting to adopt. We got everything pulled together and now our big red Australian hound, Red, is getting settled in his new home!

Gaz

Gaz with his new parents  – Art & Marilyn

This couple that has also had numerous Greyhounds. They lost their last one a few months ago and have actually wanted to come meet the dogs, but a few things came up and they needed to wait. The time had come for them to find their new family member. There was one criteria that was basically non-negotiable the dog had to be kid-safe. They have 14 grandchildren and one of them comes one day a week for daycare. After some deliberation, they decided on, Gaz, a gentle, sweet Irish boy.

Presh

Presh (left) with her new family .. Jordan and Chelsea, Little Boots (fka Hazel) and Scout

We have had quite a rash of people who have chosen their dog before they come to the kennel. And these people have actually had a connection with that dog. This couple did just this. They lost their last greyhound last week and they knew that they had to fill that hole pretty quickly because the whole family, including the dogs, was mourning for her. They came in asking for a specific dog and then also added that they were very open to shy dogs. We showed the dogs we had but there really was no point. They had already decided that our sweet, black Irish girl, Presh, was their new family member.

Ricky

Ricky with his new dad, Ben

This man saw the dog’s picture on Petfinder. The dog seemed to be just what he wanted. Even though he came in to see a particular dog, he wisely decided to meet some others while he was there. He enjoyed meeting the other dogs, but it came down to the special connection he had with Ricky, our black & white boy from Ireland.

Donna, Ben, Stitch

Donna

Donna, nka Aoife (pronounced ee-fah), with her new family … Alexandra, Claire & Goose

This family knew which dog was of interest to them before they came. But, they had a couple of other things to take into consideration when they were making their decision — namely … their cat and their two year old Coonhound named Goose. We couldn’t do much to find out about how our dog would do with the cat at the kennel, but we could definitely see how Goose would do with her. Even though he was quite a bit younger than our girl, he seemed to understand what she needed and wanted and they got along very nicely. So, our pretty Irish girl, Donna (nka Aoife – pronounced ee-fah), found her new home and gained two new furry buddies.

Ben

Ben with his new parents … Bora & Justin

This couple did their research and knew exactly what dog they wanted when they set up their appointment. They had gone on the Brightwater walks and had a greyt opportunity to see quite a few of the dogs in action and also walk some of them. They felt a connection to and fell in love with our sweet Australian boy, Ben, and it was obvious he felt the same way when they came to pick him up!!!

Stitch

Stitch (right) with his new mom and sister … Chris and Letty (fka Velvet)

This woman has had quite a few of our Greyhounds through the years. She recently lost one of them and her remaining Lurcher, Letty (fka Velvet), was really having a hard time being alone so it was definitely time to add another family member. When we brought out this striking black boy, we told the lady that this guy was a little on the shy side and might take a few minutes to get his bearings, but, as it frequently happens, he made a liar out of us. He recognized that she was his new mom right away and stayed very focused on her throughout the introduction!! Now, that is how a dog gets adopted!! I don’t know who taught Stitch the ropes, but they did an excellent job!!!

Bob, Emmie, Jack, Peanut, Finley

Bob

Bob (right) with his new family … Mary, Brad and Rainy

This couple adopted their first Greyhound in 2011 and they were “mostly” ready for another one! One member of the family did turnout and found the perfect dog for them so he was really ready. His wife hadn’t done turnout so she needed a little convincing which was easily taken care of the minute the dog put his head in her lap so that she could pat him. However it came about, the couple and their current Greyhound, Rainy, were ready and happy to welcome Bob into his new home!!

Emmie

Emmie, nka Disco, with her new parents Nicholas & Taryn

This couple had to postpone their kennel visit a couple of times so they were very excited to finally come meet their potential family members. They were looking for a girl and we certainly had some fun little girls to show them. All of them put on quite an energetic show and luckily this couple was excited to take on a young bouncy dog. They certainly got one — little Emmie is a 2 year old Greyhound Mix/Lurcher from the Midwest and there is no doubt she will keep them on their toes!!

Jack

Jack (left) with his new family Dana & Zaki

This lady already has had a couple of our dogs from Dubai and recently lost one of them. Her remaining dog, Zaki, was feeling a little lost without his buddy, so she decided it was time to find him a companion. After looking through our website and meeting a couple of dogs by herself, the owner thought that one of our Irish boys would be a good fit and she was right!! The dogs weren’t best friends immediately, but they were very tuned in to each other and seemed to understand what the other dog needed. We certainly couldn’t ask for much more than that so Jack headed home with his new mom & brother!!

Peanut

Peanut (right) with his new family … David, Auden, Chelsey & June (fka Shanna)

This adoption involved another Greyhound, June (fka Shanna), and a two and a half year old toddler so we were ready for the process to take a while. We couldn’t have been more wrong. The family had already picked out their favorite dog from our website which just happened to be one of the two dogs we thought would be a good option. When we brought out the dog, it immediately seemed like he was a part of the family. And, after spending time out in the yard, it was completely obvious to everyone that the striking black boy from Ireland, Peanut (nka Macadamia – Mac for short), had found his new home!!

Finley

Finley with her new family … Drake & Tess

This family has had to wait quite a while for the time to be right for them to adopt. So, when everything fell into place, they really moved — they had their home visit yesterday and got their dog today. They were looking for a moderately active dog and we actually had a few dogs that fit that description. Of course, since the family consisted of a mother & son, you could almost bet that they would each be attracted to a different dog and they were! But, thankfully, after some time in the yard with the two contenders, they both agreed that our little black girl, Finley, was the one for them!!

George, Breanna, Crystal, Buster

George

George with his new mom, Shelley

When this Lady gave us a description of the dog she would like to get, the first thing she said was that she wanted a “goofy” dog. We immediately knew which dog would be going home with her! We did show her a few different options, but she fell in love with our goofiest guy — a darling black guy from Australia named George!!

Breanna

Breanna with her new parents, Sam & Elizabeth

This couple was looking for a girl and, even though we didn’t have a lot of girls, we sure had some special ones for them to meet. And, just for fun, we also showed them a few boys. They had narrowed their choices down to two girls and one boy, but after time in the yard, it was down to just the two girls. Really, it was almost impossible for any of the dogs to compete with this dog — she had the softest bunny fur we have encountered in quite a while (with the exception of her sister’s whose fur was just a touch softer). The couple left with Breanna and my guess is that they haven’t stopped patting her yet!!

Crystal

Crystal, nka Lily, with her new parents, Paul & Sydney, and her new fur buddies, Winston & Iggy

When someone comes in with 2 small dogs, Italian Greyhounds in this case, we know that we are going to be showing quite a few dogs in order to find the “small dog friendly” ones. That is exactly what happened and, in all the dogs we showed, we only came across 2 that we felt were solid possibilities. And, truthfully, one of them screened herself out because she was just a little too interested in the Iggies when we went outside. With all that being said, this couple really lucked out because they ended up with a dog that was a big time “kennel favorite”. This wonderful fawn girl from Australia was incredibly gentle with the small dogs and, in fact, most of the time she didn’t even pay any attention to them. Crystal, nka Lily, will be a greyt addition to the family!!!

Buster

Buster with his new parents, Jason & Laura

This couple has been through a lot in the last couple of months. They moved here from Chicago and shortly thereafter had to send their Greyhound to the Bridge (he had lung cancer for a long time). Hopefully, the stress and sadness of the last couple of months is behind them and they can go forward with their new family member — that very handsome black boy from Ireland, Buster!!

Colt, Pippa, Cathy, Woolie

Colt

Colt with his new dads, Tom and Larry

These men have already had a couple of our dogs and lost their last one a while ago. It took some time for them to get ready for another dog but the time had come for a new family member. They have a history of adopting some of our dogs that aren’t quite as easily adoptable (they aren’t bad — some have health issues, behavior idiosyncrasies & things like that). This time they fell for one of our very striking dogs (white and blue) from South Korea who has more energy and oomph than four of our racing Greyhounds put together!! That didn’t phase these men at all. Amazingly, when he left the kennel, he practically turned into a pussycat. Obviously, Colt found the perfect home for himself!

Pippa

Pippa with her new dad, Eric

This man has been looking for a smaller dog and, since we have been getting smaller ones from Hawaii, he has been keeping an eye on our website for potential adoption possibilities. When this little girl showed up on the web, he hopped right on it. He got his home visit done and made an appointment to come meet her as fast as he could. This girl was pretty shy so it took her a little while to warm up to him, but, when she did, you could tell that the meeting was the start of something good. After the meeting, the only thing left to do was for him to take Pippa home!

Cathy

Cathy – her official GPI portrait

Both of the dogs that were just adopted came to us from Ireland and they both did well in our cat testing. Bravo!! The First Lady needed a new friend for her 10 year old black Greyhound and she came to meet one specific dog. This particular dog has been pretty shy and our hopes were that she would find a home with another dog and an experienced owner. We were very lucky — that describes her new family to a “T” and her new mom felt Cathy was as good a fit for them as they were for her!! (Sorry, no family photo)

Woolie

Woolie (left), nka Themoc (an Aztec god), with his new family … Irma, Etzi, Elmer & Chanel (mother of Ace, Clover & Little Bit)

The second family had wanted a Greyhound for an extremely long time and it finally seemed that all the things that were standing in their way were gone. Last year, we had 3 puppies from Mexico (Ace, Clover & Little Bit) and it turned out that this family has their mother, Chanel, who was needing a companion. The daughter was very excited to meet one specific dog that she was already in love with. Sensibly, her parents wanted to see a couple of more dogs before they made their decision, but in the end, they chose the same one their daughter had picked — Woolie who is now known as Themoc which is the name of an Aztec god.
