Baxter, Beauty, Jordy

April 9, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Baxter

Baxter (L) with new parents, James & Antonio with doggie sib, Blake.

This recent adoption was to a family that is very familiar with greyhounds, having had four including their current Irish boy Blake who they adopted a little over a year ago. They felt that Blake was ready for a new playmate, and saw a note saying we had a 6-year-old returned to us due to a family emergency. They immediately got in touch and set up a time to come meet him. The two dogs got along and he also made a great impression on his new parents, so today Baxter headed off to join his new pack! – Mike Forrest

Beauty

Beauty with her new parents, Mark & Nicole.

These adopters are a lifelong greyhound family and lost their previous girl Maggie a couple of years ago. They made the trip over from Eastern Washington with one girl in mind, and she did not disappoint. Within a couple of minutes of meeting them, she was practically upside down next to them on the couch requesting more pets. So it didn’t take much persuading for them to bring our sweet Australian girl Beauty back home! – Mike Forrest

Jordy

Jordy with his new parents, Jenn & Richard.

This family you may recognize as long-time GPI volunteers at various walks and meet & greets. They lost their last greyhound Ash last year and have had their eye on one of our Australian dogs for a little while, taking him on frequent Brightwater walks. Well today the time was right and they welcomed Jordy into his new home! – Mike Forrest

Ernie, Ribbet, Pinto, Leonard

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Ernie

Ernie (R) with Scotty & Kim, their mom.

This adopter is a GPI volunteer who has had several of our greyhounds. She has a soft spot for the senior hounds, and when she saw that one had been returned to us, she had to meet him. Fortunately, her other greyhound Scotty also approved, so 9-year-old Irish boy Ernie has a new pack! – Mike Forrest

Ribbet

Ribbet (L) with new Dad & Mom, Mike & Po with Tony, fka Pistol.

These adopters made the trip up from Portland to find a new buddy for their 5-year-old greyhound Tony. They got to meet several of our recent arrivals from Australia, and Tony was happy to meet all of them. But I can’t say that I was surprised that they ended up adopting the handsome, outgoing 3-year-old boy named Ribbet! – Mike Forrest

Pinto

Pinto with new mom, Audrey and her son, Michael.

We have also welcomed another repeat adopter to the kennel. Her previous greyhound passed late last year and it was time to welcome a new companion. She came to the kennel with one particular dog in mind, and he did not disappoint! He came right up to greet her, and it didn’t take long for him to show off his easy-going nature on a walk around our yard. And then a short while after that Pinto and his new mom headed home! – Mike Forrest

Leonard

Leonard nka Oscar, new Mom, Melody with cousin, Merry.

This recent adopter has volunteered with GPI and had a couple of our greyhounds before, and came in looking for a new companion. She had one little guy in mind and took him out on our group walk at Brightwater. That went great so they made it official soon afterwards! Leonard will now be known as Oscar in honor of Oscar Wilde and this St. Patrick’s Day adoption! – Mike Forrest

Benny, Amber, Rebel, Plato, Beth

March 8, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Benny

Here’s Benny (L) with Trent and Sheila with JD.

These adopters are GPI volunteers who adopted one of our dogs (JD) several years ago. JD needed a buddy so they’ve been keeping an eye out for possibilities while doing kennel turnout. One night they met a boy who had just recently been returned to GPI due to a change in his family situation. One thing led to another, and now he’s adopted! The hardest part for them might be telling JD and his new buddy Benny apart! – Mike Forrest

Amber

Amber nka Ember with Dave and Leslie.

We’ve had a few adoptions recently by long-time GPI volunteers, and this is another one to add to the list. This is #17 for this couple who recently lost their Bitzer at the age of 13. While doing kennel turnout they met a sweet older Irish girl and quickly got in touch with us about bringing her home. She had to stay with us for a couple of weeks while she recovered from some minor toe surgery, but it was worth the wait and Amber, now known as Ember, is settling right in with them and their other senior greyhound Ranger! – Mike Forrest

Rebel

Rebel (R) with new family, Nicole & Doug & Del (brindle)

A couple made a 5-hour drive down from Canada with their senior greyhound Del looking for a new companion. Their other greyhound Chrissy passed away in January at the age of 14. Del is a pretty chill guy, and they were looking for a dog with a matching temperament. We had a couple to show and both of them did really well with Del and the family. They had a hard time deciding, but eventually picked two-year-old Irish boy Rebel! – Mike Forrest

Plato

Plato with his new Dan and Mom, Mike & Dianna.

These recent adopters made the trip over from Whidbey Island to meet some of our dogs. This is their first greyhound. They have previously had Border Collies but decided that a less energetic breed might be a better fit for them this time around! They got to meet several of our boys who all put on a great show for them, but it was a handsome dark brindle boy that won them over – Plato! – Mike Forrest

Beth

Beth (R) with her new Dad & Mom, Mike & Moira with Make(brindle) & Chief (black)

We often say that the best way to meet our greyhounds is to come volunteer at the kennel. These adopters certainly take that to heart! Congratulations to GPI’s President and her family on their new addition: Beth, rescued by Team Inch in South Korea! – Mike Forrest

Aspen: April Dog of the Month

March 1, 2024

Aspen
Tag No: 6856
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Mix
Date of Birth:  June 18, 2021
Color: Brindle
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: See Comments
Kid Friendly: Ok with older Kids - 10+
Weight:  70 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments:  Aspen is a sweetheart.  She can be timid with people she does not know, but once she knows you she is friendly, curious and playful.  She loves treats, ice cubes, tennis balls, chest rubs, and playing tug.  Aspen was in a home but returned because she did not get along with the other dogs in her home, despite everyone's best efforts.  Aspen loves to run and play with other dogs, and she plays well, but she can play roughly, so needs play buddies that are ok with slightly rougher play. Aspen needs to be an only dog in a home as she is food aggressive with other dogs. She will need a home with a fenced yard and no cats or other dogs.  She lived with an 11 year old boy and loves to meet new kids, and although she can be a big excited/jumpy at first greetings, she does calm quickly.  Aspen does well on car rides.  She knows several commands and she is working on her leash manners.  Aspen is a delightful "fuzzy" that will just make you smile!

Tux, Kenny, Ruby, Sunny, Henri

February 27, 2024

Tux

Tux, nka Bane with new mom & dad, Chase & Raven & daughter, Pluto with Whippet Venus.

These adopters came in with a specific dog in mind, and he didn’t disappoint. They were looking for a new buddy for their whippet Venus who they adopted from GPI a couple of years ago. We brought out Tux who you might know is a very fun, energetic boy, and he and Venus immediately wanted to play. It took a few minutes but we got the two of them to settle down enough to do a proper introduction, then eventually let them have some play time together in the yard. They did great together, and Tux also got to show off his personality to the rest of the family. Tux, now known as Bane, had a rough start to his life in Bahrain, but he has settled into his new home in record time! – Mike Forrest

Kenny

Kenny with new mom, Deborah.

This adoption was to a retired couple who have previously had one of our greyhounds as well as other dogs. They also have a cat, and we just got in a couple of dogs that did well in our cat testing. The choices were limited, but the boy that ended up making it clear that he was going home with them is a handsome, happy boy from Ireland – Kenny! – Mike Forrest

Ruby

Ruby (L) with new dad & mom, Reggie & Carter with Scribble fka Watch.

As usual, our cat-trainable greyhounds are moving out quickly! This adoption was to a family from Eastern Washington who have had many of our dogs going back 15+ years. They currently have three cats and an 11-year-old greyhound girl named Scribble who was missing her companion Cinder who passed away last year. We really only had one cat-trainable dog that fit the bill, but that’s no problem – Scribble & Irish girl Ruby hit it off and they all headed home to meet the cats! – Mike Forrest

Sunny

Sunny with his new family, Susan and Allen.

This recent adoption is a dog who was returned to us due to a change in family situation. He was pretty nervous about being back in the kennel, so we found him a foster home with an experienced GPI volunteer family where he quickly settled in. Well sometimes fosters turn into more than fosters and this is one of those cases, so congratulations to Sunny and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Henri

Henri nka Nikko with new mom, Midge.

This adopter is no stranger to GPI as she is a long time volunteer, and this is her 17th adoption from us over the last 30 years! All of her previous adoptions have been greyhounds, but this time she went with a smaller model: a whippet who came to us from South Korea via Team Inch, Henri, now known as Nikko! – Mike Forrest
