Lady, Plato, Phil, Maggie, Fiona, Namsha, Hawk

March 16, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Lady

Lady with her new mom, Shelley

The first adoption was to a woman that lives in Sequim and from the pictures I saw, this dog found a darn good home with a big yard, gorgeous water views, neighbor dogs to play with and a mom to give her all the attention she needs. This dog was the first one that the woman met and, even though she met a few other dogs, she really didn’t need to meet any others because she knew that the sweet lassie from Ireland, Lady, was meant to be hers immediately!!!

Plato

Plato (left) with his new family, Mac & Rosie (fka Spring)

This person was a man who has a 6 year old girl named Rosie (fka Spring). He was under the impression that Rosie needed a new buddy (although, Rosie was still trying to decide if she wants to share — she is very attached to her dad). Nevertheless, we introduced her to a few of our greyt boys and both Rosie and her dad took a liking to our most handsome dark brindle boy, Plato!!!

Phil

Phil with his new parents, Matt & Dayna

In the past 2 years, we have only been able to send one dog to Canada and that was just recently. Thankfully, things have started to ease at the border and we sent the first of what we hope will be many dogs to Canada!!! This couple has been watching our website for two years and watching dogs come and go and waiting for their turn to adopt. It finally came and they had a wonderful time getting to know the dogs in hopes that one might be a potential family member. It’s not unusual for one family member to be drawn to one dog while the other person connects with another dog and that is what happened with this couple. Luckily, they were able to reach a decision amicably and they were off to Canada with their new family member, Phil (a handsome black lad from Ireland).

Maggie

Maggie with her new mom, Judith

This lady recently lost her most recent Greyhound and has been lonely and missing that wonderful Greyhound energy in her home. She came looking for a calm female. At this time, we don’t have any dogs in our kennel that you would call calm but we did come up with a few girls that came kinda close to meeting that description. After spending time with each of them, she decided that our little brindle girl from the American Lurcher Project, Maggie, was going to be her new furry friend!

Fiona

Fiona with her new family, Gina, David, Scabies (middle) & Lord Toast

This appointment was with a couple who have a Chihuahua and a Pug. They actually came in wanting one of our other dogs but we were a nervous about how that dog reacted to the small dogs. While they were there, they saw our newest pup (who by the way is absolutely adorable!!!) and fell in love almost immediately — the only thing we had to do was make sure that this dog got along with the little ones. We did introduce all the dogs and were very pleased with how everyone got along. Did I mention that this couple was so lucky that they saw this dog first — she has claimed the hearts of almost everyone that has met her and we knew she would not be with us for long? So, as soon as we knew all the pups got along, the couple decided that Miss Fiona, our latest arrival from South Korea, had to be a member of their family!!

Namsha

Namsha with her new parents, Inna & Eli

This couple moved here last summer from Israel with their Greyhound mix. They recently lost that dog and were looking for an American version of their dog. Honestly, we have never shown a wider variety of dogs before — purebreds, Greyhound mixes, Saluki mixes and true mixes. After that parade of dogs, these people definitely had to work hard to make a decision. Interestingly, instead of an American dog, they finally settled on a cute black & white Saluki mix from the UAE, Namsha!!

Hawk

Hawk (left) with his new family, Susan and Lexi

This person who came to the kennel was a woman from Canada who was looking for her eighth Greyhound. Her current Grey, 12 year old Lexi from Macau, has been lost without the brother she lost about a month ago and her mom was thinking that they both needed a new friend. Since her mother told us that Lexi was very particular about the dogs with whom she keeps company, we weren’t quite sure what dog was going to work for her. Luckily, Miss Lexi seemed to think that our handsome black boy from Ireland, Hawk, was a pretty special guy and he would do just fine as her new brother.

Luke, Latifa, Tamarin, Jack, Dawn, Lenny

March 7, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Luke

Luke, nka Stud, with his new dad, Sam

It happens more often than we would like — sometimes it takes some of our dogs quite a while to find their person, but, thankfully, their adoption day does eventually come. This guy has been with us for some time and a short while ago, a man came to do turnout and when he took this dog out, he realized he had met a greyt dog. He made it a point to take him out for turnout whenever he came and also made an appointment with our trainer to help him learn how to best handle the dog and to learn the kinds of things the dog would need in a home. Interestingly, this man lived in South Korea for a while and Luke, nka Stud, is from South Korea — it sounds like they were meant to be together!

Latifa

Latifa with her new parents, Jenn & Rich

This adoption appointment could have been over in about 5 minutes because the couple immediately fell in love with the dog they ended up adopting. They did decide to meet a few of our other dogs, but, those dogs never had a chance. This particular dog has only been here two weeks and, truthfully, we were surprised she was at the kennel this long. She is a beautiful, blue brindle from Ireland with a sweet, calm personality and, P.S. she has wonderful soft bunny fur!!! Needless to say, this couple was extremely excited to take Latifa home with them!!!

Tamarin

Tamarin, left, (nka Ginger) with her new family…Elijah, Rohie & Buddy (fka Crisper)

The next dog that got adopted wasn’t even in the kennel for a whole week!! A while back, this family decided that they wanted dogs and they planned to adopt two dogs , one for each of their twin daughters. They already had one of our dogs from Hawaii, Crisper, who is now known as Buddy, and when they heard that we had recently gotten another dog from Hawaii, they were very interested. This adorable little girl has never met a stranger and she is so happy all the time — her tail never stops wagging!! She got along with everybody in the family, including Buddy and two cats, so it was no surprise that the family couldn’t wait to make Tamarin, nka Ginger, part of their family!!

Jack

Jack (nka Solomon/Saul for short) (left) with his new family… Joni & Twyla (fka Dewey)

This lady recently lost one of her Greys and she thought that the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for her remaining 11 year old Greyhound, Twyla (fka Dewey), was to get her a brother. Twyla seemed to know just what she was looking for and she picked one of our sweet boys who has been with us for quite a while. He is pretty shy, but he has come so far with the training he has been getting and we were so proud of him when he came out to meet Twyla. They hit it off very quickly and we think that Twyla was excited to teach Jack (nka Solomon/Saul for short) all the things he will need to know in his new home!!!

Dawn

Dawn (left) with her new family… Jackie, Trent, Emily & Charley

The last time this family adopted from us, they were just about to have a baby and now, that baby, Trent,  is 5 years old. They decided that their current Greyhound, Charley, was ready for a companion and so were they. They came looking for a relatively calm dog and while we don’t have a lot of those, the ones we do have did a greyt job of showing off. It all boiled down to two of the new Irish dogs — a male who really was extremely calm and a female who was pretty bouncy but settled down pretty well after a while. After playing with both dogs outside and watching how they played with Trent, — one played a little and then pretty much ignored Trent & Charley — the other bounced all over everywhere and interacted with everybody and even knew how to control herself as she ran up to Trent and stopped just short of him every time. After watching the performances, they did have to discuss the decision, but, it didn’t take much discussion to decide that the black Irish lassie, Dawn, would be the best fit for their family.

Lenny

Lenny with his new dad, Kyle

Last week I got a note from a man asking if a specific dog was still available. When I told him yes, he asked if he could do his application and get his home visit done quickly. We are generally able to move as quickly or slowly as a potential adopter wants so had no problem getting things done.  When he came to the kennel, he knew the dog he wanted and it was fun watching the two of them get acquainted. This particular dog came to us from South Korea and he had a very hard start in life so we couldn’t be happier that he has found a new dad (and as a bonus, a new grandmother and aunt)! We have no doubt that Lenny is going to have all the spoiling and love that he so deserves!!!!

Biscuit, Joker, Heaven, Breaker, Coach, Maria

January 16, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Biscuit

Biscuit with her new mom, Monica

This adoption was to a couple who probably never guessed that their new dog would be from Hawaii. Actually, they (meaning the wife) fell in love with their potential adoptee by going on the Brightwater walks. And when they decided on their special dog, they got all of their qualification work done very quickly so nobody else could steal her away. They had already spent a little time with this girl they pretty much knew all there was to know about this sweet little girl. I would say that when they selected Biscuit they made a loving, fun and very wise selection!!

Joker

Joker (left) with his new family … Koichi, Yoshiko & Nana

This couple was looking for a companion for their 7 year old Greyhound. We showed them a few dogs, and we were a little surprised when we realized that the best fit for the whole family was a dog that had previously had no interest in the people he met. But this time, he showed the people what he was really like — I guess Joker knew they were his family and he wanted to make sure he would be going home with them.

Heaven

Heaven (nka Winnie) with her new family, Kellie & Isabel

This family came in with a short list of dogs they wanted to see, but they never got past the first dog on the list. This particular dog is the friendliest dog you can imagine and, truly, none of us have understood why she was still at the kennel. She definitely brought her “A” game this time and I don’t think there was any way those people were going to go home without her. This girl does tend to be a bit bossy so we knew she would get her way. She did!! Now, Heaven (nka Winnie) is going to be lapping up all the attention that this family is ready to give!

Breaker

Breaker with his new family … Justin, Parker, Natalie, Evy and Millie

As you’ve heard before, there is no way to predict if a dog is going to have separation anxiety until they get into a home. And, sometimes, when a dog does have SA, the owner can’t change enough things to make it work. This just happened to this man and his situation is definitely an example of making “lemonade out of lemons” — he ended up adopting a gorgeous brindle boy that caught his eye when he was here to adopt the other dog — Breaker!!

Coach

Coach with his new family … Dave & June

This couple came with a list of a few dogs that they wanted to see and the most important characteristic was for the dog they adopted to get along with their daughter’s Greyhound. They had seen all the other dogs on their list and we were waiting for the last one to get to the kennel. When he did finally arrive, the woman took one look at him and said “that’s my dog!!”. Luckily, her husband agreed and they couldn’t wait to take Coach home with them.

Maria

Maria with her new mom, Jamie

The last lady wanted a fairly calm dog that was about 3 years old or over and liked to go on hikes with her. None of the dogs we showed her matched all the things on her wish list and, as you may have guessed, there were a couple that didn’t really match any of her wish list. You may also have guessed that she chose a dog that was pretty much opposite of what she thought she wanted, but that sure didn’t seem to make any difference to her as soon as she met that cute little brindle girl, Maria (who came to us via the Caliente racetrack in Mexico)!!

Nari, Charlotte, Naomi, Hulu, Prim, Ghost, Tesla

August 30, 2021

Nari

Nari

The first man that came really only had one main thing that was really important to him in his selection process — the dog had to get along with his sister’s small dog. We introduced him to a few different dogs that would work and then we also showed him a couple of more dogs that weren’t ready to leave the kennel yet. This was one of those things that doesn’t happen very often — when we showed him one particular dog, they clicked — it was an instant connection that we all felt. There were a couple of “housekeeping” things he needed to do to be able to adopt this dog and he did them all immediately. We’re so glad he did because after watching Nari (from the UAE) and him together, it would have been awful if they couldn’t be together. (Sorry, no family photo is available just yet)

Charlotte

Charlotte and her new family … Kelly, Tom & Sweeney

Next, a couple lost their 15 year old Greyhound Thursday and their sweet 5 year old Schnauzer named Sweeney was really missing her so they came to meet a couple of our Whippet mixes from Asia. Both girls got along beautifully with Sweeney and his parents and they made it very difficult for the people to decide. The people toyed with the idea of getting both girls but thought that situation could be a little more than Sweeney could handle at the moment. So, then, they had to decide which one to adopt. They had a very difficult time deciding but the final decision was — Charlotte!!!

Naomi

Naomi with her new family … Patrick, Zinnia & Rachel

This family had previously owned a Lurcher and when they lost that dog, their daughter was very young. So they decided to wait until she was older — Zinnia is now 7 and they feel the time is right for an addition. We showed them a few dogs, but the truth is that once Zinnia met our sweet little Asian girl, Naomi, we knew there was no way they would be leaving without her! And, they didn’t!!!

Hulu

Hulu (right) with her new family …. Jesse, Amanda, Noah & Bowie (fka Elmo)

The next family has had one of our Lurchers, Bowie (fka Elmo), since June and they have enjoyed him so much that they knew they had to have another. They have been watching the recent arrival videos and they fell in love with one of the girls who came to us from Mexico. Even though we showed them a few other dogs, this dog proved to be just as wonderful as they were hoping. Thankfully, Bowie agreed and Hulu has a new home!!

Prim

Prim (right) with her new family … Kristi, John & Truck

This couple has had 6 Greyhounds through the years and they know what their dogs need. Two weeks ago they had to send one of their hounds to the Bridge and their remaining hound, Truck, has not been himself. They realized that he was really missing his brother and needed a new friend. We introduced Truck and his family to a few different dogs and, while he got along with all of them, the one he seemed to connect with and enjoy the most was Prim!!  –

Ghost

Ghost, nka Chamaco which means young boy in Spanish) with his new mom, Pen

I don’t know what was going on with the dogs today, but, it was like we had a whole new cast of characters. Every dog we showed seemed to know exactly what to do to schmooze the potential adopters and it was incredible to watch. The first dog came out to meet his potential new mom and he went right up to her, snuggled and gave her a kiss and she started to cry! There was pretty much nothing another dog could do to top that. One dog came close, but Ghost (nka Chamaco – which means young boy in Spanish) and his new mom were already bonded from their first introduction and he was the one that she took home!

Tesla

Tesla with her new dads, Richie & Chris

Then two men came to find their new companion and the dogs these men met completely outdid themselves!! The first one came out, made sure he gave sufficient attention to both men and then promptly sat on one man’s lap while he snuggled with the other one! Each one they met after that tried hard to make an impression (and they did!!) but the first dog was still in first place. Then we brought out a gorgeous girl who came out and paid attention to each man and then wanted to get up on the couch and kiss them. It was tough to figure out which dog they would pick, but, in the end, they decided it had to be Tesla!!

Aspen, Alder, Birch, Olive, Hazel

August 19, 2021

GPI’s Puppy Bonanza

Beautiful Naomi is a 5 year old greyhound mix. This lovely lady couldn’t be more sweet and gentle.A long story short, Naomi was pregnant and blessed us with five beautiful pups – born on June 18, 2021. There are two males (one black and one brindle) and three females (all brindle).

Thank you to their wonderful foster home for caring for mom and pups!!! And thank you to our wonderful vets at Bothell Pet Hospital who helped Naomi with a difficult birth!!!

Aspen

Aspen with her new family … Mike, Christina and their son

This family knows what it is like to have a Greyhound mix puppy because they have had one of our puppies before. When I kiddingly asked them if they were interested in another, I have to admit I was a little surprised when they said “absolutely”. They came to meet the puppies and, from the beginning, one person was interested in one dog and one preferred another. It was fun to watch them “discuss” the attributes of each dog and we honestly had no idea who was going to be adopted. But we were very excited for the whole family when they told us that Aspen was the one!!

Alder

Alder (in his mom’s arms) with his new family … Ruth, Penny & Caelyn

Then, a lady came with a friend to help the foster mother by playing with the puppies (isn’t that a fun volunteer job?). I’m pretty sure that when she was on her way to the play date, she had no idea that when she left, she would be seriously considering adopting one of the puppies. She even went so far as to text a picture of the puppy to her husband and I think she was pretty surprised when he said to bring it home!! The next step was for her husband to meet the puppies and watching him with the puppies was so much fun — he was like a little kid at Christmas!! We have no doubt that Alder has found himself a wonderful home!

Birch and Olive

Olive (left) & Birch with their new parents, Cathy & Tom

This couple lost their last Greyhound a while ago and they decided they were now ready to have their home filled with the patter of little feet (literally!). When they contacted us, they already knew exactly who they were interested and they had a plan for how they were going to make their home the best one for their new additions. They wanted two dogs and they picked the perfect pair because these two were already not only brother & sister but also best friends!! They are absolutely going to have their hands full but they couldn’t wait to take Birch & Olive home and get started on their lives together!!

Hazel

Hazel (in her mom’s arms) with her new family … Jordan, Chelsea, Drusilla (the Greyhound) & Scout

This couple has had some challenges that they have had to handle in a very short period of time in order to be able to adopt this dog. They needed to make some changes to their fencing and they took care of it in about 4 hours and they were ready to go!! Then they needed to make sure that their 14 year old Papillon, Scout, and their 8 year old Greyhound, Drusilla, were going to be happy with a new addition. Thankfully, that went beautifully!! When they came to meet this dog, it truly was just a formality because they knew that Hazel was going to be theirs before they even made the trip to the kennel!!!
