Girly

Girly (No family photo available)

These recent  adopters came over from Eastern Washington looking for their first greyhound. They have a 6 year old daughter so we had to make sure that a new dog would be ok around kids. They also had their heart set on a girl so that narrowed things down a bit! Fortunately, we did have a sweet girl who fit the bill – a recent arrival from the UK named Girly!  – Mike Forrest

Digger

Digger & Family

These adopters came in with a youngster, in this case a 2 1/2 year old boy. We had to make sure that we could find a dog that would be ok with a tiny person around, and we had a few boys to choose from. One guy was a little too shy and nervous, one was a little too excited, but the third did really well and headed off to his new home in BC – another recent UK arrival named Digger! – Mike Forrest

Rosco

Rosco (L) with new Dad Rich, Mom Nancy & sister Edie.

A family came in looking for a new companion for their greyhound Edie who they adopted from GPI last year. Edie is a sweet girl who loves people and other dogs so we wanted to make sure we could find a match for her with the same kind of energy. We introduced them all to a couple of our boys, but it was the first one we tried who really made an impression. He and Edie greeted each other calmly and exchanged play bows before realizing it was a little too hot out for zoomies and deciding to go back to their humans for some pets instead. But I’m sure Edie and our Irish boy Rosco have plenty of zoomies in store now that they’re siblings! – Mike Forrest

Matilda

Matilda, nka Harrie (R), niece Lucy & Mom, Darcy, Penny, fka Kayko.

Another recent adoption was to a long-time greyhound owner looking for a new companion and a friend for her girl Penny who she adopted from GPI 5-years-ago. She had her eye on one perky little Irish girl from the start, and luckily Penny approved! So, they made it official and now Penny and Matilda (now known as Harriet or Harri) are adopted sisters! – Mike Forrest

Rusty

Rusty (R) with new Mom, Eileen and sister, Ibiza.

This adoption was also to a long-time greyhound family going back over 20 years. They lost one of their greyhounds recently and their girl Ibiza missed having a friend around. There are also two cats in the mix so that really narrowed down the choices to one: a very sweet Irish boy named Rusty! – Mike Forrest

Maia

Maia nka Lina (short for Topolina, a small mouse in Italian) with Mom Deb, Daughter Gina & Dad, Chris.

Lately it’s been a busy time for our Australian hounds – two have headed off to their forever homes! Our first adoption was to a family that has been volunteering at GPI and waiting for the right dog to come along. The girl they adopted is a gentle blue girl who won over pretty much everybody at the kennel who met her. Congratulations to Australian girl Maia, now known as Lina, and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Hugo

Hugo with Mom Shelley, Sister Laine & Dad Glen.

These adopters made the trip down from the Vancouver area to meet some of our hounds. They have not had a greyhound before, but their neighbor does and apparently is a great ambassador! We introduced several of our greyhounds and mixes, but one made it very clear that he was going to go home with them: our remarkably easy-going Australian boy Hugo! – Mike Forrest

Storm

Storm (L) with new Dad, Jeremy & Rocket.

This adopter made the trip up from the Portland area with his four year old greyhound boy Rocket. They recently lost two senior packmates at the ages of 13 and 14 and Rocket needed a new buddy. The dog that they chose just happens to be our April Dog of the Month, and he’s a happy, fun guy who we think will also greatly benefit from having another greyhound to hang out with. Congratulations to Irish boy Storm and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Candy

Candy nka Shiloh with new Mom & Dad Terri and Tim.

These recent adopters came in looking for a dog that could get along with their two cats. They have not had sighthounds before, but are experienced dog people. The dog that they were interested in was a very shy girl from Bahrain, and it took a lot of coaxing just to get her to introduce herself. Fortunately this family has experience with shy dogs and they have a seemingly bottomless supply of patience and love so they were willing to do whatever it took to make her feel at home. She has made incredible progress since she moved into her new home and has been steadily gaining confidence. So congratulations to Candy, now known as Shiloh, on officially joining her new pack! – Mike Forrest

Ernie, Angel, Zeus, Gracie

Ernie

Ernie nka Reny with new family, David, Zander & Michelle with Baylee, dog on couch.

These adopters are a family with a teenage son and a 15-year-old terrier mix named Baylee. They were looking for an active, playful family dog that could also get along with Baylee who isn’t that interested in other dogs and mainly just wants to do her own thing. We have a few dogs that could fit the bill and introduced all of them, but most were a little too much for Baylee. The last dog on our list however decided he wasn’t interested in Baylee at all and was much more excited to play with his new human companions. And after some good play time in the yard they brought Ernie, now Reny, home with them! – Mike Forrest

Angel

Angel with new mom, Bev and brother Silus.

This adoption was to a long-time GPI volunteer and greyhound parent who fell in love with this senior girl while doing turnout and Brightwater walks. The only question was how she’d get along with her other greyhound Silus, and fortunately it’s been going great! So today they made it official and Angel has a new family just in time for the holidays! – Mike Forrest

Zeus

Zeus with new parents, Emiliano & Marion.

This recent adoption is unusual in that the adopters did not meet the dog at our kennel. Instead his new mom is one of the vets who helped treat this boy when he arrived from South Korea via Team Inch. As soon as his treatments were done we double-checked to make sure he was ok having a couple of cats as housemates, and he’s doing great! So today Zeus officially became part of their family! – Mike Forrest

Gracie

Gracie (brindle) with new parents Grant & Ally, daughter Ava and Zelda.

This adoption is to a family that has adopted a couple of our greyhounds before, currently with 10-year-old Zelda. The twist is that they now have a three-year-old daughter so we had to make sure we found a dog that will be comfortable with her. Fortunately, we had a few in the kennel to introduce and they all got along well! The lucky girl they’re adopting is a 3 1/2 year old brindle who raced in West Virginia: Gracie! – Mike Forrest

Dibber, Bing, Rio, Siri

April 24, 2023

Dibber

Dibber with his new dad and mom, Joshua & Isha.

Our next adopters are a couple engaged to be married in a few months looking for their first dog together. We have a few dogs that we thought would fit their lifestyle, and all of them happened to be black boys from Ireland. It can be hard to tell them apart just looking at them, but they definitely showed off their unique personalities. The gentle soul that won them over though was one of our recent arrivals: Dibber! - Mike Forrest

Bing

Bing nka Darwin with new mom & dad, Lily & Will.

Our next adopters came a long way to meet our dogs, all the way from Calgary! Both grew up with dogs, but this is their first greyhound and first dog as a couple. They got to meet pups from all over, including the US, South Korea, Ireland, and Australia. They were able to narrow down their choices and were eventually won over by a big shy boy who recently arrived from Ireland. So our world traveler Bing (now Darwin) is now en route to his new home in Canada! - Mike Forrest

Rio

Rio with new mom & dad, Isabella & Mike.

One of our long-time turnout volunteers recently moved into a new home with a nice fenced yard and decided the time was finally right to adopt. When she and her partner came in, they already had a dog picked out, and all that was left was the difficult question of what color to pick for his new collar. Eventually they solved that problem, and so our Australian boy Rio is off to his new home sporting a nice shade of red! - Mike Forrest

Siri

Siri, nka Stella with new family, Skye & Scott.

Here’s another case where our adopters met their dog while doing kennel turnout volunteering, and in fact first found out about GPI because they are local and saw one of our Brightwater group walks. They previously had huskies, and this is their first greyhound. Doing turnout gave them the opportunity to meet most of our dogs, but I think they were won over pretty quickly to our blue girl from Ireland: Siri, now known as Stella. - Mike Forrest

Jet, Daisy, Ambrosia, Frannie

February 20, 2023

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Jet

Jet (left) with new mom, Turtle and new brother, Cobi

This adopter is a long-time GPI volunteer who moved to Oregon several years ago. She made the trip up with her greyhound Cobi who had recently lost his canine companion. We introduced Cobi to several different boys & girls and he got along with all of them. That means that it was up to mom to make the difficult decision of who to bring home. Since she’s a retired flight attendant, it makes sense that she picked our Irish boy Jet! – Mike Forrest

Daisy

Daisy with new dad, Aaron

This adopter today didn’t come quite as far, making the trip up from Vancouver, Washington. He grew up with a dog, but this is his first greyhound and his first dog that is all his own. He got to meet several of our recent arrivals from Ireland. One in particular made a great first impression by introducing herself with some vigorous tail wagging, and she sealed the deal with a game of fetch (well, the greyhound version of “fetch” anyway) outside in the yard. So our world traveler Daisy is off to her new home! – Mike Forrest

Ambrosia

Ambrosia (left) with her new family, Wilson & Kennedy with new brother, Dax, fka Savage

These adopters are long-time greyhound owners looking for a new companion for their boy Dax (fka Savage) who they adopted about a year and a half ago. They felt that he’d do best with a girl, so we introduced them to several greyhounds and mixes of all ages and sizes. The dogs did a great job of showing off their wide range of personalities, and Dax got along great with all of them. But it was one of our younger girls that really connected with him and her new mom & dad, showing off her playful happy self chasing a ball out in the rain with Dax. So our California girl Ambrosia was soon headed home with her new family! – Mike Forrest

Frannie

Frannie with new family, Quinn, Zoe, Brett & Julianna

Sometimes it takes a while for our more active, energetic young dogs to find the right home. We are so fortunate to have dedicated staff and volunteers that spend time with these dogs providing the enrichment and training that they need while they wait for their people to arrive. Well today a family with two teenagers came in looking for a dog that could keep up with their active lifestyle. They got to meet and spend some quality play time with several of our residents. But one happy lurcher girl stole their hearts, and while we will all miss Frannie at the kennel I know we’re all delighted to see her find her home! – Mike Forrest
