Lizzy, Jolene, Dooly, June Bug

Lizzy

Lizzy with new Mom & Dad, Jana & Todd.

This adoption has been a long time coming, in more ways than one. The adopters first met this girl over a month ago on a trip to our area from their home in BC, Canada. They lost their greyhound Mika in March and wanted to meet some dogs to see if they were ready to bring home a new pup. After thinking about it over the weekend they decided they had met their next girl and reached out to us to get the adoption process started. This past month has been a little crazy due to some upcoming policy changes for moving dogs across the US/Canada border (which have thankfully been rescinded!) so we had to scramble to get her paperwork updated. She’s a real world traveler now too, having come to us from South Korea via Team Inch just over two years ago. But finally – on her new dad’s birthday – they made the trip back down to pick up a very happy, fun girl who is definitely ready for her forever home: Lizzy! And a special thanks today to all the wonderful trainers and volunteers who have been working with Lizzy since she arrived. She has come so far! – Mike Forrest

Jolene

Jolene (black) with new Mom & Dad, Nancy & Rich with sister, Edie.

These recent adopters were looking for a buddy for their six-year-old greyhound Edie. She seems to get along with everybody but can get a little overwhelmed if other dogs come on too strong. Based on that we thought we might have a good match for her, and it was pretty clear right from the start that Edie agreed! So, congratulations to her and her mom & dad on welcoming Jolene to their family! – Mike Forrest

Dooly

Dooly with new Mom, Liz.

This adopter has had several of our greyhounds over the years, including two seniors who sadly passed away earlier this year. She heard about one of our recent arrivals and thought he might be a great fit, but we needed to make sure he’d get along with a couple of Westies who will sometimes share office space with him. Sure enough, the introductions went great, and now 4 year old Dooly has a new family and two new office buddies! – Mike Forrest

June Bug

June Bug nka Inca (L) with new family, Chris & Margaret with sister, Topaz (fka Chase).

These adopters are frequent volunteers at GPI and adopted their girl Topaz (fka Chase) from us back in January. They felt that it was time to add a second greyhound to their home and started looking for a potential match. They brought Topaz to our meet & greet event in Redmond, and while there they met one of our adoptable dogs. She and Topaz hit it off immediately and so after some further introductions they made things official today. Topaz has a new sister named Inca (formerly June Bug)! – Mike Forrest

Kiki, Daffodil, Zane

Kiki

Kiki (L) with new parents, Karin & Jason & Ciara fka Cooler.

These adopters are no strangers to GPI having adopted several dogs from us over the years. They came in with Ciara (fka Cooler), their four-year-old girl from Ireland. Ciara needed a new playmate, but one that wouldn’t overwhelm or intimidate her. They saw that we have several shy/nervous dogs up for adoption right now and felt that one of those might be a good fit for them and Ciara. So, we introduced a few to see how they would get along. The one that won them all over very quickly was a very shy but very cute young lurcher girl who recently arrived from California – Kiki! – Mike Forrest

Daffodil

Daffodil with new Mom & Dad, Pat and The Mister.

These recent adopters have been near & dear to GPI for over two decades, and this is their 12th adoption from us! They have been coming to the kennel for turnout as well as spending extra time working with some of our shy dogs while looking out for their next hound. Well, they found her, or she found them, so congratulations to our red four-year-old Daffodil and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Zane

Zane (R) with Grandmom Ruth, Mom Jennifer, Dad Brian and sister Dana.

This adoption was to a family that brought home two of our greyhounds several years ago. Sadly, one of them passed recently, and their girl Dana who originally came to us from Jerusalem needed a new buddy to play with. Dana is on the shy side but active and playful so they wanted to find a hound that could keep up with her. They saw the bio of one particular dog on our website and thought he’d be a good match, and they were absolutely right! Congratulations to them and their new brindle boy Zane who just turned two this week! – Mike Forrest

Rumble, Margo, Turnip, Amelia

Rumble

Rumble nka Edith, Dad, Ron & Wort fka Cannon (White & Black).

This adopter brought in his 9-year-old greyhound boy Wort looking for a new companion. Wort was very cooperative and got along with all the dogs we introduced, so it came down to a difficult choice between a brindle boy and a blue girl. After some time in the yard it became clear that Wort was going to go home with a new girlfriend – UK girl Rumble, now known as Edith! – Mike Forrest

Margo

Margo, nka Sadie with Mom Lisa & Dad Michael & Winston.

These recent adopters are long-time GPI volunteers and previously had a greyhound. They currently have a smaller mix named Winston who started life in Mexico. Winston can have a hard time meeting new dogs, so it was important to first get him used to that before meeting potential siblings. So, they worked with our trainer and went on group walks with a couple of our volunteers and their greyhounds, and Winston started to do much better. He was eventually ready to meet some new greyhounds, and did really well with a sweet, friendly 4 year old girl that the family had taken on Brightwater walks. Today they made it official and Margo, now known as Sadie, joined their pack! – Mike Forrest

Turnip

Turnip with new mom, Danielle.

This adopter recently lost her first greyhound and decided it was time to find a new companion. She lives downtown and likes to go on long walks so we wanted to make sure to match her up with a hound that could keep up. I think she picked a good one – our big Australian boy Turnip! – Mike Forrest

Amelia

Amelia with new parents, Holly & Steve.

These next adopters came in looking for their first greyhound, and one that would like hanging out with dad at work at a local brewery. As you would imagine this might be a challenge for many of our dogs, but I think they found one who will thrive with the extra attention. She had a rough go of things in South Korea where she was found with a badly broken leg. Our friends at Team Inch picked her up and got her the medical attention she needed, including putting in a plate to repair the fractures. She finished her long recovery with us here at GPI, and since she’s such a sweet affectionate girl who loves to give everybody hugs we knew it wouldn’t take long for her to be adopted. So congratulations to Amelia and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Girly, Digger, Rosco, Matilda, Rusty

Girly

Girly (No family photo available)

These recent  adopters came over from Eastern Washington looking for their first greyhound. They have a 6 year old daughter so we had to make sure that a new dog would be ok around kids. They also had their heart set on a girl so that narrowed things down a bit! Fortunately, we did have a sweet girl who fit the bill – a recent arrival from the UK named Girly!  – Mike Forrest

Digger

Digger & Family

These adopters came in with a youngster, in this case a 2 1/2 year old boy. We had to make sure that we could find a dog that would be ok with a tiny person around, and we had a few boys to choose from. One guy was a little too shy and nervous, one was a little too excited, but the third did really well and headed off to his new home in BC – another recent UK arrival named Digger! – Mike Forrest

Rosco

Rosco (L) with new Dad Rich, Mom Nancy & sister Edie.

A family came in looking for a new companion for their greyhound Edie who they adopted from GPI last year. Edie is a sweet girl who loves people and other dogs so we wanted to make sure we could find a match for her with the same kind of energy. We introduced them all to a couple of our boys, but it was the first one we tried who really made an impression. He and Edie greeted each other calmly and exchanged play bows before realizing it was a little too hot out for zoomies and deciding to go back to their humans for some pets instead. But I’m sure Edie and our Irish boy Rosco have plenty of zoomies in store now that they’re siblings! – Mike Forrest

Matilda

Matilda, nka Harrie (R), niece Lucy & Mom, Darcy, Penny, fka Kayko.

Another recent adoption was to a long-time greyhound owner looking for a new companion and a friend for her girl Penny who she adopted from GPI 5-years-ago. She had her eye on one perky little Irish girl from the start, and luckily Penny approved! So, they made it official and now Penny and Matilda (now known as Harriet or Harri) are adopted sisters! – Mike Forrest

Rusty

Rusty (R) with new Mom, Eileen and sister, Ibiza.

This adoption was also to a long-time greyhound family going back over 20 years. They lost one of their greyhounds recently and their girl Ibiza missed having a friend around. There are also two cats in the mix so that really narrowed down the choices to one: a very sweet Irish boy named Rusty! – Mike Forrest

Maia, Hugo, Storm, Candy

Maia

Maia nka Lina (short for Topolina, a small mouse in Italian) with Mom Deb, Daughter Gina & Dad, Chris.

Lately it’s been a busy time for our Australian hounds – two have headed off to their forever homes! Our first adoption was to a family that has been volunteering at GPI and waiting for the right dog to come along. The girl they adopted is a gentle blue girl who won over pretty much everybody at the kennel who met her. Congratulations to Australian girl Maia, now known as Lina, and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Hugo

Hugo with Mom Shelley, Sister Laine & Dad Glen.

These adopters made the trip down from the Vancouver area to meet some of our hounds. They have not had a greyhound before, but their neighbor does and apparently is a great ambassador! We introduced several of our greyhounds and mixes, but one made it very clear that he was going to go home with them: our remarkably easy-going Australian boy Hugo! – Mike Forrest

Storm

Storm (L) with new Dad, Jeremy & Rocket.

This adopter made the trip up from the Portland area with his four year old greyhound boy Rocket. They recently lost two senior packmates at the ages of 13 and 14 and Rocket needed a new buddy. The dog that they chose just happens to be our April Dog of the Month, and he’s a happy, fun guy who we think will also greatly benefit from having another greyhound to hang out with. Congratulations to Irish boy Storm and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Candy

Candy nka Shiloh with new Mom & Dad Terri and Tim.

These recent adopters came in looking for a dog that could get along with their two cats. They have not had sighthounds before, but are experienced dog people. The dog that they were interested in was a very shy girl from Bahrain, and it took a lot of coaxing just to get her to introduce herself. Fortunately this family has experience with shy dogs and they have a seemingly bottomless supply of patience and love so they were willing to do whatever it took to make her feel at home. She has made incredible progress since she moved into her new home and has been steadily gaining confidence. So congratulations to Candy, now known as Shiloh, on officially joining her new pack! – Mike Forrest
