Dog of the Month

Jonathan: September Dog of the Month

August 31, 2025

Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville ([email protected]) for more information about Jonathan.

Jonathan

Tag No: 6917
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Lurcher
Date of Birth: April 12, 2018
Color: Red
Cat Trainable: Yes
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Weight: 70 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: Jonathan is an active, outgoing, friendly boy. He will need a more active home. Although he could possibly live in an apartment/condo, he would really thrive in a home with a fenced yard to run around in. Jonathan has lived in a home and was returned for some reactivity. We encourage potential adopters to chat with our trainers and come and meet this wonderful boy! Our trainers are working with him and found him to be responsive, affectionate, friendly and loves our walks! Jonathan loves his walks with our volunteers, and he is a good walker. He also loves to run in our dog park with our volunteers - so fun and playful. He does well encountering other dogs out on the trail as long as he and the other dog are leashed and he feels secure. While he does well encountering other dogs when he is out and about, he needs to be an only dog in his home, as he is unsettled when other dogs approach him when he/they are unleashed. Jonathan is delightful, fun and eager to please.

Pandora: August Dog of the Month & Walkathon Queen

July 31, 2025

Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville ([email protected]) for more information about Pandora.

Pandora

Tag No: 7009
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Mix
Date of Birth:  Approx Jan 2021
Color: Fawn
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Weight:  63 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments:  Pandora is a fun loving sighthound with a million watt smile and a personality to match.  A volunteer and staff favorite, Pandora is Pop-u-lar!  When you meet her you too will be won over by her relaxed, friendly charm and humorous antics.

Pandora is a long legged blonde with a mysterious past.  All we know about her former life is she was rescued by our friends at Team Inch Sighthound Rescue from a South Korean dog shelter.  Pandora’s gene pool is a true sighthound party mix, comprised of 77% Greyhound, 14% Irish Wolfhound, 5% Borzoi, 2% Polish Greyhound, and 2% other stuff.  Pandora is about the same height of a larger greyhound but a bit fuzzier and very strong for her size.

She absolutely loves all people and loves to play and frolic in our large grassy play yard (alone or with a human friend).  When she isn’t playing with people, she is a confident, low-key, and independent girl who will happily amuse herself by tossing toys up to pounce on!  After playtime she’s also glad just to chill by your side.

No guarantees, but we think Pandora will make a great housemate. The GPI kennel attendants give Pandora an “A+” at keeping her kennel tidy and she hasn’t shown to be much of a barker.  Pandora is very bright, and is an eager pupil who likes to learn.

As much as Pandora adores people,  she cannot live with cats or other small animals.  Nor is she really a fan of other dogs, particularly stranger dogs.  While Pandora is cordial to the other dogs at GPI and can tolerate walks with sighthounds or other dogs to whom she has been properly introduced, she is reactive to dogs who are strangers.  Pandora’s trainer has made huge strides in reducing/controlling her reactivity when she encounters strange dogs in the world outside of GPI. We think Pandora’s reactivity will continue to improve with her new family if they will commit to a regular desensitization practice.  Pandora’s adoption includes four one-hour private training sessions with her professional trainer who will show her new family how to handle and lessen her dog reactivity.

Her family can be quiet or busy, and possibly have older, dog-savvy kids.   But because of her size and strength her family should have no little children.  Pandora’s home needs to be with an experienced dog owner in a quiet area with a large, fenced yard in which to play and lounge.  She is not suited for life where she will have chance encounters with strange dogs in close quarters.  Thus Pandora should not be in a densely populated situation like an apartment/condo/townhome, an urban area, or another closely packed area (e.g., farmers market, dog friendly pub, and pet store). That said, Pandora will be a great companion for hiking in lesser frequented areas, camping, and other unpopulated outdoor adventures. She loves walks and has nice leash manners when there are no stranger dogs nearby.

Aspen: July Dog of the Month

July 1, 2025

Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville ([email protected]) for more information about Aspen.

Aspen

Tag No: 6856
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Mix
Date of Birth:  June 18, 2021
Color: Brindle
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: See Comments
Kid Friendly: Ok with older Kids - 10+
Weight:  70 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments:  Aspen is a sweetheart.  She can be timid with people she does not know, but once she knows you she is friendly, curious and playful.  She loves treats, ice cubes, tennis balls, chest rubs, and playing tug.  Aspen was in a home but returned because she did not get along with the other dogs in her home, despite everyone's best efforts.  Aspen loves to run and play with other dogs, and she plays well, but she can play roughly, so needs play buddies that are ok with slightly rougher play. Aspen needs to be an only dog in a home as she is food aggressive with other dogs. She will need a home with a fenced yard and no cats or other dogs.  She lived with an 11 year old boy and loves to meet new kids, and although she can be a big excited/jumpy at first greetings, she does calm quickly.  Aspen does well on car rides.  She knows several commands and she is working on her leash manners.  Aspen is a delightful "fuzzy" that will just make you smile!

Africa: June Dog of the Month

June 1, 2025

Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville ([email protected]) for more information about this dog.

Africa

Tag No: 7051
Registered Name: None
Breed: Saluki/Canaan
Date of Birth:  February 4, 2021
Color: Black/Tan
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with dogs her size, unknown with others
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Weight:  55 lbs
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: This four year old Saluki/Canaan mix is a playful and affectionate girl with plenty of puppy-like energy. Mostly black in color and blessed with that slinky sighthound physique, Africa stands out from the crowd with a delightfully curly tail, notably large ears, and best of all, a pair of beige eyebrows that seem to have been dabbed on sideways with a large brush and give her the cutest quizzical expression.

Africa was surrendered to our friends at Bahrain Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) when she was just a puppy by an owner who was leaving the country and couldn’t take her along. After a stint in the BARC shelter Africa then lived in a foster home, where we are told she was in heaven playing with the other dogs and cuddling with her foster mom on the bed. In February, 2024, Africa finally took her “Freedom Flight” to America and GPI.

When Africa first arrived at GPI she was somewhat unsure about being handled as she was naturally confused, wondering what was happening to her and who all these strange people were. But Africa caught on quick that the kind staff and volunteers at GPI can be relied upon 100% to give gentle caresses and tasty eats. That said, she is not a fan of restrictive affection or having her collar grabbed by strangers-and really, who could blame her?

She is currently more than making up for lost time in her social life and now shows exuberant affection towards her human friends. She is a little shy on first introduction (especially with large men), but give her a few moments and her natural curiosity and intelligence will override any reluctance to approach you. Add an optional treat or two, and presto you will have a wiggling little kiss dispenser who is hoping to be your new bestie. Africa is very eager to please and sometimes values human affection even over treats!

The right home for Africa could include dog-savvy kids and/or a compatible dog, but no cats. She loves to run and play (games of chase are a favorite) and happily shares her toys. Her garden must have a high fence (at least six feet) because this athletic lass can jump! Africa is suited to a life in a quieter suburban or rural area, not in a busy downtown environment.

It might be due to her lack of experience or just her personality, but Africa can be temporarily overwhelmed by stimulating or bustling environments. Her family should definitely introduce her to new places and experiences, but just a bit slowly and selectively while she learns about the world and her real personality emerges.

Africa is seeing the world outside the kennel on group walks with her GPI dog friends at a moderately busy public park. She doesn’t seem to mind other dogs being in close proximity. A few of GPI’s volunteer trainers, under the tutelage of GPI’s professional trainer, Miss Rosyn, have made great progress in teaching Africa basic leash manners and how to control her youthful impulsiveness. With more a bit more maturity and experience she will make a good on-leash walking companion, either one-on-one with her human or in a group dog walk. She loves car rides, though she needs to be restrained or contained as Africa believes you both should be in the driver’s seat!

Since arriving at GPI Africa has made great strides in learning about life as a pet, blossoming from a cautious and inexperienced youngster into a vivacious and loving dog. Now she just needs to take that final step into her forever home.
