GPI at Issaquah Salmon Days – Can you help?

September 19, 2018

The Issaquah Salmon Days festival is just around the corner! This is one of GPI’s biggest booths of the year and we need LOTS of help to staff this two-day event. This year the festival runs October 6th and 7th, 10AM-6PM each day.

This is a crazy-busy location and booth so we need volunteers and their ambassadogs which are experienced with music, large crowds, other dog breeds, small dogs, other critters, children, wheel chairs, etc. (This is not an event for available dogs from the kennel.) We also welcome volunteers who do not currently have greyhounds as we need many voices to talk with all of the visitors to the booth. It takes about 30 volunteers (and almost as many hounds) to staff the booth for this 16-hour, two day event. If you are not familiar with Salmon Days, follow this link to see what it is all about: http://www.issaquahchamber.com/salmondays

**Once again we are utilizing SignUpGenius to fill the booth time slots. Please see the link below (and forgive the advertisements…it’s a free site).

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b4aa9a82dabfe3-gpibooth

Time slots are shown in 1 hour increments. If possible, please sign up for at least 2 consecutive hours of booth time. You can join us both days if you are really up for an adventure!

Each household attending is considered a team. In the comment section, please list the names of all team members attending, human and hound. Human-only teams are welcome to sign up! If you are able to stay longer than the booth time slot shows, please add a note in the comment section of the time slot that most closely matches your preference.

More info about the event, including directions and parking, a map showing our booth location, booth procedures and etiquette, etc. will be sent prior to the event.

A Volunteer shirt is not required at the booth. If you would like to order one in time for Salmon Days, please follow the link below.

If you have any questions about the event (including scheduling), please feel free to call or email me, or Chris Nooney, for more information.

We hope you can join us for Salmon Days!

Posted previously - Sunday, October 14, start at 1:30 pm (please arrive no later than 2 pm) at Greyt Hern Works (Kennel)

21521 SR SE, Woodinville, WA 98072

IMPORTANT: You must register with payment by October 10 to test your dog.

Our dogs have often lived in more than one geographical area in the US but may also have come from other foreign countries. We have developed specific guidelines for the different groups of dogs based on where they came from. The recommendations are based on data from nationally recognized tick-borne disease authority Dr Cynthia Holland of Protatek Reference Laboratory. Please click to where your dog came from. The tick testing panel will be based on it.

Please contact Yumi Burnett if you have any questions.

Arrival Day: 26 hounds welcomed

September 8, 2018

On August 30, 26 wonderful hounds were welcomed into loving arms at the Hern Greyt Works.

The trip started when 15 NGA (National Greyhound Association) retired racers left Florida and 7 Lurchers from the American Lurcher Project left Ohio. These dogs met up in St. Louis, Missouri to make their way to Abilene, Kansas to pick up another 4 NGA greyhounds. Then, this pack of 26 traveled on to the Hern Greyt Works, where they leaped into their future and the loving arms of GPI's many dedicated arrival day volunteers.

Next, the new dogs will receive veterinary checks, baths, have their portraits taken, be assigned turnout buddies, and settle into their runs and be ready for their forever homes.

Many thanks to our careful drivers for safe delivery of our new dogs, our volunteers who helped with arrival, baths, and turnout, and to our photographer Ross Nooney for the photos and video.

Registered Name: Sunrise Shadow
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth: April 13, 2013
Color: Black
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, No small dogs
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: Shadow came to us from Ireland. Shadow is happy, friendly and playful. She will need a home without cats or small dogs. Shadow will likely need a canine companion. August 2, 2017: Shadow was diagnosed with has IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia) with an unknown cause. Sept 2017: Shadow is responding well to treatment, is gaining weight and back to enjoying life. She continues on with her treatment and we are slowly reducing her meds. March 2018: Shadow continues to do well in her follow up medical testing and we are slowly reducing her medications. It is so wonderful to see her doing so well and getting back to life as it should be. She remains on one medication at this point, but we are hopeful that she will soon be off all medications and that she can resume life and pursuit of a forever home. May 2018: Shadow is now off all medications. Her last blood test was excellent! We need to do one more blood test to check that she is remaining healthy. Her coat has grown back in and she is playful, happy and delightful!! Once she has had her next blood test she will be available for adoption. July 2018:Shadow is back to normal, but she will need to have periodic blood work done to make sure that everything continues to stay stabilized. August 2018: Shadow is doing well. She loves her walks with our volunteers, hanging in one of the turnout yards with our volunteers or snuggling up for some affection. Shadow is delightful. She will make a wonderful companion. She has waited so long – won’t you give this sweetheart her forever home?
