Cathy Munro

Jumper, King, Wynter, Mini, Ben

July 1, 2019

Join us here each Monday as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Jumper

Jumper

This adoption is one that has taken way too long to happen and it was so much fun to watch. When this lady from Canada came to the kennel, she brought two of her long time friends with her to cheer her on so our dogs had quite an audience and they definitely worked it. We showed a wide variety of black dogs and slipped in one or two non-black dogs and through the whole showing, we had our fingers crossed for one special black dog. When we finished the first run through and asked which dogs she would like to see again, she said there was no need to see them again — she knew exactly which one was hers. I almost fell over when she said “Jumper” (who is nka Rupert) — it was obvious they had a connection at once and she loved his happy energy — Hooray!!

King

King

This adopting couple is a “mixed” family — she is partial to Vizslas and he is partial to Greyhounds. They recently lost his Greyhound and the whole family, including the Vizsla, Levi, was missing their friend and they knew they needed to do their homework to find their next family member. They decided to walk dogs on the Brightwater outings and had the chance to meet lots of our wonderful dogs. They actually did their homework so well that we hardly had to do anything at the adoption appointment — the only real hurdle was to make sure that Levi, was going to get along with the new dog and it only took a few minutes for it to become obvious that the dogs were going to be just fine! With both dogs’ tails wagging, Levi (and his parents) took his new brother, King, home!!

Wynter

Wynter

A mother and her daughter came from Vancouver, WA to get their new family member. They were actually at the kennel a couple of weeks ago, but the dog they chose was not quite ready to go home so they have had a wait for what, I’m sure, seemed like an eternity!! On their original visit, they only saw a couple of dogs because they instantly fell in love with a wonderful girl from South Korea and she fell instantly in love with them! Their new family member is Wynter and it is interesting to note that the mother’s first dog was named Sommer!!

Mini

Mini

A dad grew up with lots of dogs, including a greyhound, and has wanted one of his own for a long time. Whenever there is a young child involved, we never really know how the dogs are going to react, so it is a total crapshoot as to which dog will do best. It is always interesting to watch the whole process — it kind of takes a while for the dogs to figure out that they are meeting a small human and their reactions go from fear to curiosity to acceptance (hopefully!!). We did have a couple of dogs that made it all the way to acceptance and when it came down to the final choice Miss Mini was the winner (coincidentally, the daughter’s favorite character is Minnie Mouse!)

Ben

Ben

A couple of years ago a man came in with his daughter and adopted a cute little girl (who just happened to have the same name as me ??). Now he is ready for another grey so he and Cammy (fka Kathy) came in to find her a friend. The daughter wasn’t present at this visit — I’m sure glad that I won’t have to explain to her why, but, hopefully, she’ll be so excited about their new addition that she’ll forget about it. At any rate, the dad came in wanting a “chocolate, swirly” dog (this one threw me for a loop for a minute until it hit me that he meant a brindle) and I guess Cammy agreed because that is exactly what he got when he adopted Ben!!

Kayko, Junior, Dom, Erine, Salma, Haley

June 23, 2019

Join us here each Monday as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Kayko

Kayko

The lady who came to the kennel for this appointment just lost one of her dogs last week and not only is the remaining dog lost without her pal but the people are a also little lost. Needless to say, the whole family is truly in need of something fun to focus on. Well they found the solution!! We showed them a couple of dogs, but from the minute they met this cute little girl, there was no doubt who was the best fit for this family! The girl they got is a puppy so they are going to have their hands full trying to keep up with her, but, I’m sure they are going to have so much fun with Kayko.

Junior

Junior

This lady came with her daughter and a completely open mind and we just love that!! Girl, boy, purebred, Lurchers — she was open to them all. Each of the dogs we showed them was more than happy to show its true colors and I think she enjoyed meeting all of them. She spent time in the yard with a couple of the dogs and that only made the decision harder. She did decide on one of our wonderful boys and when she pulled out her black and white glasses so she could read the contract we knew it was absolutely meant to be that Junior be her dog –  Junior is black & white and looks a little like a Dalmatian!!!!!

Dom

Dom

The boy who went home with these adopters became a kennel favorite almost the instant that he arrived at the kennel and the couple that adopted him came to the same conclusion almost as quickly! They looked at a few dogs and narrowed it down to two, but I’m not sure they even needed to see both dogs a second time. The woman of the couple is a schoolteacher and the last day of school was the day before — she may be enjoying her freedom from teaching, but I think she has signed on for a teaching gig that will keep her very busy while she is on vacation this summer. While Dom, nka Ernie, is a sweet, wonderful boy, he has a lot to learn and I think he ended up with the right couple to help him get on the right track!!

Ernie

Ernie

I can’t figure out if we are sending more dogs north or south of our borders, but today another one of our greys headed down to Portland. When the couple arrived, we started out looking at the Macau dogs and they all did a greyt job of showing themselves off. However, after a short tour through the kennel, the couple wanted to see two other dogs that caught their eye. After spending some time with both dogs separately, they were having a hard time deciding between the two so they asked to see them together. As you probably guessed, we were hoping both would be adopted, but they decided two dogs might be a little too much to take on so, they narrowed down to one – Ernie.

Salma

Salma

The lady who had this appointment has been coming to the Brightwater walks for a while and lately she has been walking one dog that has completely won her heart. BTW, this little girl has also won numerous hearts around the kennel and no one can believe that she has actually stayed with us as long as she has. Her kennel stay came to an end today as Salma (who came to us from the UAE) pranced out the door toward her home on Capital Hill with her new mom.

Haley

Haley

The next lady has been asking me about a specific dog since she first contacted me to set up an appointment. We were all puzzled that this dog has been with us as long as she has but, we knew it was mostly because the right person had not come to get her yet. Today, everything changed when her potential new mom walked in the door. There was no double that Haley, who is from Macau, was meant to be with this lady and they both knew it!!

An Interview with Digital Agility Media

June 23, 2019

Digital Agility Media recently completed a pro-bono logo and website redesign for Greyhound Pets, Inc. and we are beyond grateful to Digital Agility for such a beautiful gift. We recently interviewed Marcy Spiker, Co-founder & Chief Cat Herder at Digital Agility about her company and the project.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. How long have you been in business? How big is your team?  Who is on your team?

Digital Agility Media is a full-service, digital marketing agency. We’ve been helping businesses and nonprofits get more leads, more sales and more donations since 2013.

Our core team is located in the Seattle-area and in California, but we have an extended team of specialized contractors in other parts of the country that help with various projects. The great part of our team is that every member has a unique skill-set and work experiences that they bring to the table. One of our founders, Steven Wolpern, has experience in both high-tech and teaching. Myself, I have a nonprofit and health insurance industry background. And Oliver Oytas, our lead designer and coder on the Greyhound Pets, Inc. web project, has worked in high-tech as well as with small businesses and non-profits.

How did your company get started? Did you always/or for a long time want to own your own company/be your own boss? How did you come up with the name for your company?

Digital Agility Media came into being a few years ago out of a desire to help some small businesses and startups that Steven and I knew personally. The founders of these organizations came to us needing help with specific projects – things like creating a website, maintaining a social media presence, creating a newsletter mailer and crafting an annual appeal.

From these small projects, we saw that there was a need. The companies and organizations we talked to were often not large enough to maintain their own in-house marketing team. Or, in some cases, they had their own small marketing group, but weren’t able to keep up with the ever-changing and increasingly demanding world of digital marketing. There was always another social media platform, SEO trend, or web development tool to learn.

This is why we love what we do for these companies, and why we feel we can be so agile (hence our name! ?) with what we do. Our team is focused on delivering results and working closely with our clients within a reasonable budget that works for them.

Every company is different. Every nonprofit is different. It’s therefore important to us not to deliver one-size-fits-all solutions and to instead really take the time to learn about what our clients need.

Do you have any office pets?

Office Manager Cleo

The true office manager around here is our super sweet (my description), occasionally grumpy (Steven’s description) smart and sassy, tabby cat Cleo. We also have a special place in our hearts for dogs, although circumstances don’t currently allow us to have one in the family. So helping with GPI was a great way to give back to our canine friends in the meantime. This project has inspired a new love of greyhounds!

Does your company only build websites? Or do you offer other services too?

We offer a full range of digital marketing services and can help with either a specific project or offer a bundle of services tailored to our clients’ needs. Digital Agility Media specializes in websites, SEO, social media, advertising, and content and email marketing.

What is your favorite thing to do?

Part of the fun of what we do is that each member of our team has a special interest. I enjoy working on projects that implement search engine optimization (SEO) on a new or existing website. I like getting a detailed look at where website traffic is coming from, what people are searching for, and how I can help get them the answer they’re looking for. I also enjoy helping our clients make the best use of the social media platforms best suited to their brand or mission.

Steven is our wordsmith and go-to technology problem solver. He likes to help our clients find creative solutions to their challenges.

Oliver is the artist on the team. His creative touch shapes every project we do for the better.

Cleo keeping track of office activities

What is your most memorable project your company has done? (LOL not counting GPI)

Oh, for sure GPI! This was a fun pro-bono project that allowed all our team members contribute their skills. Even our intern, Haley, pitched in to help with data entry and graphics — and we were lucky to have her.

Another recent example was a website for a global semiconductor provider. We developed an elegant detailed product search tool to help their clients compare the features of the hundreds of electronic parts that they offer and present that data in various ways on different pages of the site. Creating the UI, responsive behavior, and technical backend for that tool was a fun challenge.

What advice do you have for someone looking for a web designer or marketing expert?

You want a marketing team that will really get to know you and your business or non-profit. Yes, there are common marketing strategies that apply most of the time and most websites have similar features. But you want to make sure that the marketing partner you hire puts together solutions tailored to your needs, your budget, and your goals.

Too many marketing companies will try to offer cookie-cutter solutions without really taking the time to understand their client’s needs. Find someone who you are comfortable with; Find someone that is eager to learn about YOU.

Do you have a top-tip for keeping large projects under control?

Digital Agility Media keeps on track with daily tasks using the project management tool Asana. It is a great tool. We also use Microsoft Teams for project communications. For large web development projects like GPI’s, we used Git and Bitbucket for version control and to help keep track of updates, enhancements and bugs to address.

Do you have a newsletter? what kinds of things do you include in your newsletter?

We welcome the community to join our newsletter to get tips and the latest trends in the world of websites, SEO, social media, email marketing and advertising.

How can people contact you or your company for more information?

Feel free to check out our site and contact us to set up a time where we can chat with you about your particular marketing needs.

Cleo is waiting for you to contact Digital Agility Media for all your marketing needs!
