Raven

Raven with her new parents, Bill and Marianne

These people have been waiting a while to get their next greyhound and they were so excited to meet the new dogs, they came from the Peninsula two days in a row to help with the bathing so that they could get a look at all of them. While they were doing the bathing, they fell in love with two beautiful girls and they were having a hard time deciding which one would be the best fit for them. Their “Greyhound Sitter” is a longtime GPI volunteer who happens to have a small dog so it was imperative that their new dog get along with a cute little Cairn Terrier named Snicklefritz. It turned out that they didn’t need to make the decision at all — only one of the dogs got along with Snicklefritz — Raven!!!

Frankie

Frankie with his new dad, Jay

There is something really special about the dogs from Australia and that is evidenced by the fact that 5 of them came to us about a month ago and the last one left the building today!! This particular dog also ended up in a “Prime” situation since he will be walking his new dad to and from work and supervising him while he works at Amazon. I don’t have any doubt that Frankie is up to the task!!!

Charm

Charm (left) with his new family … Marta, Chase (middle) fka Titan, & Jack, fka Bro

First, a couple lost their non-greyhound recently and decided the two Greyhounds they have just had to have a new addition. This appointment truly took just a few minutes before the decision was made. The lady came in sure that she was going to go home with one dog and, instead, decided she was in love with another one very shortly after meeting him. If you haven’t met this dog, you missed one special boy who has a lot of charisma. If you have met Charm, you completely understand why he was the one they had to have! –

Kristin

Kristin (right), nka Kedi with her new mom and sister — Michelle & Esprit (fka Sally)

A lot of people struggle with the question about whether or not their dog is happy as an only dog or whether they need another dog. This lady faced this dilemma and she has had a tough time deciding what the “right” answer was going to be. Luckily, she had friends and her current dog to offer guidance and she came to the conclusion that Esprit, one of our Dubai dogs fka Sally, definitely needed a sister and she chose Kristin who is from the Ohio Lurcher Project and is now known as Kedi!

Ryan

Ryan (left), nka Rye, with his new family … Francisco, Izzy & Cy

This next family has had one of our greys, Cy, for a few years and they have been watching for a dog that would be a good fit for their family. While they were bathing the dogs from the huge Florida load we got a few weeks ago, they found what they thought would be a good match. Unfortunately, this particular dog is terrified of slick floors and, since their house is full of slick floors, we all decided that he would be better off in a home with lots of carpet. Luckily, it just so happened that his brother had no problem with floors like that and he got along greyt with all the family members, including Cy, so Ryan (nka Rye) is off to his new home!! –

Kitty

Kitty with her new mom, Maria

This lady just had her home visit this morning and she went home with her new Greyhound this afternoon. She sent me a note saying that she needed a cat trainable dog and she was going to need to wait until mid-December to make her addition. I explained to her that we have a very small number of dogs that fit her situation (3 to be exact) and if she waited too long there would not be any. She reevaluated her situation and decided she needed to get moving!! She met all three possibilities and it was interesting that the dog that started out the most reserved was the one that made it very obvious she had chosen this lady as hers. We think that Kitty chose wisely!!

Lola

Lola with her new mom, Lauren

As we are getting our most recent arrivals vetted, we are slowly working our way through the list of people who have been hoping for a dog that is cat trainable. This is one of the first couples who were ready to go. I should mention that the dog that ended up being a part of this family would be really lucky because the mom just happens to be a dog walker and loves to have company all day long so the dog would not be alone much. On the other hand, this couple hit the “trifecta” – they met all of the dogs that met their needs and they completely fell in love with a beautiful girl who just happened to be – 1) cat trainable , 2) Australian (one of the 5 we just got) and 3) Blue. For those of you who don’t know, blue Greyhounds are uncommon and I have to say that Miss Lola is one of the prettiest “blues” we have gotten (inside & out)!!

Caramel

Caramel with her new family … Tryniti, Greg and Suki

When we have someone who is looking for a greyhound that does well with small dogs, we never know if we are going to be there for a short time or a long time. It all depends on how quickly we find dogs that get along with that particular dog. Luckily, this appointment went pretty quickly because the cute, 12 year old Snorkie (I think that is Schnauzer/Yorkie) did very well with the dogs she met and, luckily, she got along the very best with the dog her people fell for — Caramel!!

Floyd, Banjo, Noah

Floyd

Floyd with his new mom, Susan

When we found out that we were going to be getting some dogs from Australia, we were all so excited and we couldn’t wait to meet them. If you have not had the opportunity to meet them, I think you might have missed your chance — at least for this load. These dogs are running out the door so fast I can hardly believe it. The latest adoption was to a lady who had gone on the Brightwater walk (remember, I told you, this is a greyt way to get first crack at the dogs!). This lady walked the dog this weekend, fell in love with him and she adopted him today and she took home one special dog named Floyd!!!! –

Banjo

Banjo (left) with her new family … Greg, Carol, River (middle) & Kayak (fka Killer Cheetah)

When you get a call from the breeder telling you that a littermate of your dog is available and he would like you to adopt the dog, what can you possibly say but “yes”?? That is exactly what happened to this couple. The breeder told them that the sister to their dog had finished her racing career and, if the tracks hadn’t been closing, she would have become a brood mom, but instead she was ready to start her retirement. She arrived last week and was just ready to go home — the only obstacle was re-meeting her brother and being introduced to her new sister. Luckily, everything went as we all hoped and Banjo headed home with her brother, River, and new sister, Kayak (fka Killer Cheetah).

Noah

Noah, nka Ronan, with his new dad & mom, David & Grace

This couple was looking for a dog that was cat trainable and, unlike the situation we were in a short while ago, we actually had a few dogs for them to choose from! It’s a good thing that they were open to having a young dog because every one of the 5 dogs we showed them were under 3 and, in fact, four out of the five were well under 2 years of age. They narrowed it down to 2 boys, one fawn and one white/brindle who had very similar energy levels and personalities. Of course, one person preferred the fawn and the other wanted the white/brindle — but, after a little discussion, they decided that they were going home with the latter, Noah who is now known as Ronan!

Ruby

Ruby (right) with her new family … Tim, Pam & Dax

The next couple recently moved to a home on Vashon Island that is on 5 acres so they were all ready to give another Greyhound a home. They currently have one of our Greyhounds, Dax, and now that Dax has lots of room to run around, the couple decided that he needed another Greyhound so that he could make use of all that space. We showed him a couple of boys and a couple of girls and he picked a fawn girl that looks like a mini version of him. Since Dax is a daddy’s boy, the couple was hoping for a mama’s girl which is just what they got when they took Ruby home!

Clarke

Clarke, nka Oh-so, with her new parents … Randy & Suzann

Canada has added another Greyhound to its population!! This couple recently lost their sweet little fawn Greyhound and decided it is time to share their home with another little girl. We showed them quite a variety of girls from young and extremely active to young and very active! 😉 All the girls were truly on their best behavior but there was one who made sure the couple knew that she had selected them — she was attentive and affectionate and it is really hard to resist a dog when they make it so obvious you are their person. Miss Clarke, nka Oh-so, did an excellent job and earned herself a lovely home and a trip to Canada!!

Topaz

Topaz and her new family … Philip & Leeanne

Two of our Australian dogs have already “left the building” and we have only had them about two weeks. We have a lady who has patiently waited for a dog that was cat friendly, old enough to live in an apartment and was also able to handle living in downtown Bellevue. Her home visit was done last January so she has been waiting almost a year!! When she learned that one of the girls from Australia would fit her needs, she couldn’t get out to the kennel fast enough to meet her and see how they got along. Needless to say, they connected pretty quickly. I’m sure she would say that the wait was worth it because she went home with a beautiful Australian girl that met all of her needs — Topaz!! –

Lucy

Lucy (middle) with her new family … Ron, Sandy, King and Levi

The next couple came to hear Rebecca Miller (our contact with the Australian group Racing 2 Rehome) talk about racing in Australia and the steps they have gone through to make it possible for the Australian dogs to come to the US. As they sat listening to Rebecca, they were facing the Australian dogs and one cute little black girl put on a little show for them (and the rest of us too!). As soon as the talk was over, they made an appointment to bring their two dogs in to meet her and see if she would get along with their boys. BTW, one of their boys was also born in Australia and came to us via Macau, China. Luckily, the boys and girl got along very well so they were very excited to take home their new addition — Lucy!

Mason

Mason, nka Ziggy, with his new family … Vicki, Kate, Sam & Chris

I have said so many times that when you volunteer for turnout, you get to be the one of the first ones to see the new dogs and get to know them. This lady found out first hand that I was telling the truth. While doing turnout she met a boy that completely stole her heart — all she had to do was convince her family that this was the dog for them. I don’t think it mattered much what she told them because pretty much the instant they walked in, they started talking about Mason as if he were their very own dog and now he is!! BTW, they have decided to call him Ziggy.

Aman

Aman with her new family … Mallori, Mia, Morgan and Vinnie

This family was looking for a playmate for their two year old Whippet named Vinnie and we really had fun trying to find the perfect one for him. We started out with a couple of our young girls and they were way too rambunctious for him so we decided it might be a good idea to try some males. He seemed to be intimidated by the boys, even our most mellow guy, so we opted for plan “c”. We thought one of our Dubai girls might be a good fit because she is kinda in the middle of the two other groups. She was a very shy girl and she is coming out of her shell nicely and we thought that she and Vinnie might help each other blossom. Luckily, Vinnie thought that was a good plan (let’s say he didn’t hate the plan) and he decided that Aman would make a good sister for him!

Ryker

Ryker with his new mom, Rebecca

I can’t imagine much that would be more disappointing than being all ready to go pick out your new Greyhound and then having an accident on your way to the kennel. That is exactly what happened to this lady — she stopped to fill her car with gas on her way to the kennel and took a pretty bad fall so she had to cancel her appointment. That didn’t hold her up for long because a couple of days later she was on the phone wanting to come meet dogs as soon as we could fit her in (luckily we could do it that same day!). The wait was worth it — she came and met a couple of dogs and had a special connection with one dog — Ryker!!!

Alfie

Alfie with his new family — Lorean, John and Bart

What a fun day!! I have to start with the funnest adoption — one of our dogs came to us needing some surgery and we have been waiting since his arrival from Korea for his surgery date. In the meantime, we have had quite a few people express an interest in adopting this dog so we have been busy making sure everyone who was interested had all their information up to date and they had a home visit. The surgery was scheduled for last Wednesday and they had everything ready for the surgery, but, when they took the X-rays for the surgery, the vets discovered that the problem was correcting itself and there was no longer a reason to do the operation. We were all thrilled, but, that meant we had to hurry up and decide which family would be the best fit for this dog. We got that done and as soon as the family was notified, they called me and we set up a time for them to come get the dog. They were thrilled to take him home, but, it was bittersweet for all of us who have fallen hook, line & sinker for Alfie!!!

James

James with his new family — Laura, Mike, Thor, Daisy & Dink

The next couple came to us with 3 dogs and they, especially the husband, felt they absolutely needed a Greyhound. P. S. — they also have a cat!!! Truthfully, when you are dealing with that many dogs and people to please, it seems a little overwhelming, but, we took it one step at a time and we were able to find a wonderful boy who fit in beautifully! This story is even more special given that this boy was returned yesterday because the family felt they had too much on their plate and didn’t have time for him. Well, this family has plenty of time and love to give to James (hooray!!)

Maisie

Maisie (right) with her new family — Jonathan, Jillian and Teddy (fka Curly)

Next, a couple lost one of their Greyhounds to kidney failure earlier this week. It was hard on the whole family, especially the boy who is still here. He was really struggling to understand what happened to his friend and he was having a hard time being by himself. Thankfully, the couple knew that he needed another dog and they came as soon as they could to find a buddy for him. They had lots of dogs to choose from, but Teddy (fka Curly) picked out a beautiful brindle girl with a white tip on her tail — Maisie!!
