Dewy
The lady that came first was looking for a companion for her Greyhound, Kelly. Just as an aside, Kelly was a very shy girl when this lady originally took her home and she has totally blossomed into a wonderful dog. Kelly had the honor of picking her new sister and she did one heck of a job. Kelly loves to dig and her mom put in two sand pits that are the dogs areas and if they want to dig to China, nobody will be upset. She picked Dewy (nka Twyla) without even knowing that she loved to dig — sounds like these two will get along just fine!!
Ark
Next a lady brought her two daughters to the kennel to find their first Greyhound. They already have a one year old Dachshund named Pluto who was obviously a big part of the decision process. This family had totally done their homework — they could practically repeat the home visit information to us!! They met a couple of neat dogs, but the best dog was pretty much bomb-proof — he didn’t react to Pluto barking or anything else – so it was very obvious that Ark (nka Rocco) was the best fit for this family.
Scarlet
The next couple has been recovering from the loss of their 100 pound Greyhound a while ago and they decided they were ready for another dog. They came to the kennel to meet one particular dog who is very shy and they were unbelievably patient with her and ready to let everything go at her pace. This particular dog wasn’t ready to go home yet so in the meantime the couple also took on fostering our dog, Texas, while she recovers from a broken leg. The interesting part is that Texas weighs about 40 pounds and the other dog weighs almost 50 pounds — together they don’t weigh as much as the couple’s other dog. Finally, the original dog they selected was ready to go home and it was quite an event since this is the first time the two dogs have met. Thankfully, Scarlet and her foster sister hit it off immediately and we think they are going to be greyt buddies who help each other blossom!!
Ring
A family with kids who are 4 & 7 lost their last Greyhound around a year ago and they were ready to welcome another male Greyhound into their home. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? No way!!! We introduced them to a wide variety of dogs and narrowed it down to a few that we thought might be possibilities, but when we got them out into the yard and got the kids wound up (running & screaming — at our request), those dogs were ready to chase and pounce on the kids so we ruled them out. We finally thought of one other possibility and after putting him through every test we could think of and having the family spend a long time with him in the yard, they decided that Ring, nka Smoky, was their new family member!!!
Akiva
This adoption was pretty easy. The lady came looking for a dog that would enjoy more moderate exercise and we had one dog in particular that we thought would work well. We showed that dog and a few others, but from the moment the lady met Akiva, nka Goose, she only had eyes for him!!!
Patsy
Actually, the next adoption was pretty easy too. This is an example of what can happen when you involve a trainer to help you prepare for your new dog. This man did not have much experience with dogs but he had a couple of meetings with a trainer and did turnout a few times before he was ready to adopt. While he was doing turnout, he fell in love with a sweet little black girl named Patsy, nka Nightly, and knew she was the one for him!!
