Adoption Tails

Knight, Stormy, Roxy, Nyx

Knight

Knight nka Night with new Mom, Sawyer.

Our final adoption of 2024 was to one of our dedicated kennel staff! They have been fostering this big 4-year-old boy who was a little stressed out during his stay at the kennel. He has been adjusting wonderfully to home life, so they decided it was time to make things official – congratulations to Knight and his new parents! – Mike Forrest

Stormy

Stormy with new Grandparents, Rey & Cindy and new Dad, Jon.

These adopters recently lost their greyhound Missy and hound mix Tanner to old age. They were looking to meet some of our girls and we had several to introduce. Each of the dogs really showed off their personalities, and one was impossible to resist with her affectionate nature and lots of leaning. Congratulations to nearly 4-year-old Stormy and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Roxy

Roxy (white & fawn) with new Mom Anne & Dad, Lloyd & brothers, Rock & Loki.

These recent adopters are long-time GPI volunteers and have two of our hounds, Rock and Loki (formerly Diego). They recently lost their girl Lily who was nearly 14, and they were looking for another girl to go with their two boys. Rock and Loki got along with everybody they met but really seemed to connect with a 5-year-old girl who recently arrived from Australia. So, after a short romp out in the yard they all welcomed Roxy to their pack! – Mike Forrest

Nyx

Nyx (R) with Mom Phoebe, Dad Jesse with sister, Rune.

This adoption was a special one. Nyx was rescued by Team Inch in South Korea from a situation where he was chained to a wooden crate with a dirt floor. When he came to us, he was a little shy but gradually turned into a playful, sweet boy. We’ve introduced him to many families but the fit was never quite right. So, when a family came in with a timid hound mix named Rune who is a little smaller than Nyx, we knew we had to introduce them. It took a little time for them to get comfortable together, but by the end of the day it felt like they might be a good match. Things only got better once they brought Nyx home where Rune was much more comfortable. Nyx has turned into quite a snuggler and he and Rune love to play together. So today they made things official – congratulations to Nyx and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Tippa, Cello, Stitch, Snowfall, Granddad

Tippa

Tippa with new Dad, Eric.

It’s been a little while since our last official adoption, but this one is worth the wait! This boy has been waiting for his forever home with us for way too long, but he finally found his person in one of our long-time volunteers and Brightwater walkers. He’s settling in well and they made it official – congratulations to 3-year-old Tippa from Australia! – Mike Forrest

Cello

Cello (R) with new sister, Louiza (English setter from Greece) and new parents Nancy & John.

These adopters have had many of our greyhounds before and have been patiently waiting for a dog that would do well around their other dogs, cats, chickens, and horses. We recently welcomed a new Team Inch pup from South Korea who we thought might be ok with all that, so they gave him a try and he settled right in! So, they made it official – Congratulations to Cello and his new extended pack! – Mike Forrest

Stitch

Stitch, nka Ace (R) with sib, Beeper, fka Star (L) with Dad Doug & Mom Chelsea.

This adoption is a happy reunion! The adopters saw that a particular dog had been returned to us due to behavior issues in his home and offered to foster him and see how he did. They were interested because they just happen to have this pup’s brother already! Well, it turns out that the brothers get along great together so they decided to make it permanent. Congratulations to newly adopted Ace (formerly Stitch) and his brother Beeper (formerly Star). – Mike Forrest

Snowfall

Snowfall with new mom, Rebecca.

This adopter is no stranger to greyhounds, and her last dog Manny passed away recently. She came in looking for a new companion and was open to meeting a wide variety of dogs. But it was the last one we introduced who really stole the show. This 4-year-old Australian girl came out very excited (as she does) but quickly settled down and curled up on the couch. So, it was no surprise that they headed home together – congratulations to Snowfall and her new mom! – Mike Forrest

Granddad

Grandad with new parents, Maison & Nayell.

These adopters have been fostering dogs and decided they wanted a dog of their own. They thought a greyhound would be a good fit for their lifestyle and had one boy in mind when they arrived. He’s a sweet, mellow 4-year-old from the UK who has quickly turned into a favorite among our volunteers. We introduced him first and they hit it off right away, so it wasn’t long before they packed up and headed home with Granddad! – Mike Forrest

Kash, Rodney, Briggs

Kash

Kash with new Mom, Clarissa.

This recent adopter has had an eye on one of our dogs for a little while. He came to us from Hawaii as a youngster as one of our “spicier” pups and has made great strides with the help of our trainers and dedicated volunteers. Last week he got to spend some time with his new mom showing off how much he has learned and how eager he is to learn more and go on new adventures with her. And today, he made the trip with her back to his new home in Portland, so congratulations to Kash and his new mom! – Mike Forrest

Rodney

Rodney with new Dad. Jim & Mom, Lauren.

These adopters made the trip down from Vancouver BC. They lost their previous greyhound girl, Lup back in July and were ready to meet some new hounds. They’re in a fairly busy area in the city so we didn’t have too many options for them but fortunately that wasn’t necessary! They quickly narrowed things down to two possibilities, but one of them really stole the show with his attentiveness and some quality leaning action. So, it wasn’t long before they loaded up three-year-old English boy Rodney and headed back north! – Mike Forrest

Briggs

Briggs (fawn) with new Dad & Mom, Gene & Theresa with Flash (fka White).

These recent adopters brought their 9 year old pup Flash to our kennel open house last week to meet a few dogs. They lost their senior boy Reeve earlier this year and were ready to find a buddy for Flash. There was a lot going on at the open house but they met two boys that they thought might be a good fit. So, after a week of thinking about it, they came back in to meet them again and make the big decision. Flash did great with both of them so it was really up to mom & dad, and they decided to bring home our sweet, quiet 3-year-old Australian boy Briggs! – Mike Forrest

Mili, Amber, Jewel, Prince

Mili

Mili with new family, Sierra, Erica Lonnie & Rachel & Koko, mini poodle.

This adoption has been in the works for a while. The family first met some of our dogs back in May, but the main challenge was that they have a 4-year-old miniature poodle named Koko, and Koko was pretty barky around the other dogs. Plus, Koko is pretty tiny! So, a few months later after some training sessions with Koko, a new batch of dogs in the kennel, and some time volunteering for turnout they were ready to try again. During turnout they met a cute lurcher girl they thought might get along with Koko, and they were right! After some more introductions they brought her home, and today they made it official – congratulations to Mili and her new pack! – Mike Forrest

Amber

Amber with her new family, Debbie, Matthew & Abbie.

This family has adopted greyhounds from GPI twice before. They lost their girl Jacqui in July and were ready to bring home a new companion. This time around they were open to meeting some “spicier” dogs that need some extra training, so we gladly introduced many of our more rambunctious pups. They managed to narrow things down to two of our South Korean girls and worked with our trainer to learn more about their needs. It ended up being a tough decision, but they brought home a very cute, bouncy girl named Amber! – Mike Forrest

Jewel

Jewel with her new family, Joe, Charlotte & Rebekah.

These recent adopters came in looking for their first family dog together. They met some greyhounds at one of our meet & greet events a couple of years ago and have been waiting for the right time to adopt. Well today was the right time! The family includes an 11-year-old girl, so we wanted to make sure that we found a good match for her as well as mom & dad. We introduced a few of our hounds but it was the last one that came out that really made an impression on them. She is a happy, social pup and did a wonderful job of showing that she would make a great addition to their family. Congratulations to Jewel and her new pack! – Mike Forrest

Prince

Prince with new parents, Robbie & Rebecca.

Recently, a couple traveled down from Vancouver looking for a new companion. They lost their previous greyhound Penelope last year and were eager to meet some more recent retirees. We introduced five dogs, and they all did so well introducing themselves, I wasn’t sure how they were going to choose! But one of them stood out with some leans and more than a few kisses, and he must have convinced them that he was ready to go home with them. Congratulations to our UK boy Prince and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Bailey, Ryan, Frenchy, Liliana, Bobby

September 16, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Bailey

Bailey with new Dad, Eric.

This adopter recently lost his greyhound Hero and came down from Vancouver BC looking for a new companion. Hero was a therapy dog, and we wanted to find a hound that might be able to continue doing that wonderful work. That really narrowed down the choices, but it was the first one who really showed off his gentle, patient nature. So, our 4-year-old English boy Bailey is now a Canadian! – Mike Forrest

Ryan

Ryan with new parents, Scott and Lesa.

This adoption has been a while coming, as his new mom & dad have been working with him as a foster for the last couple of months. They have since learned all his quirks and he has been adjusting really well to his new home, protecting them from the mean squirrels that live in the tree in their yard and making sure they’re never alone on the couch. So today they officially adopted Ryan (aka Rye), and I’m told they had a special dinner and treats to celebrate!

Frenchy

Frenchy with new parents, Cheryl & Matt & Henry, friend’s dog.

Another recent adoption is to a family that lost their previous greyhound last year. They frequently dog sit for a friend so we wanted to find a hound that could get along with an older, smaller dog. We introduced a bunch of hounds but pretty quickly narrowed it down to two who both did really well with Henry. It was really tough to decide between the two, but they went with our happy two-year-old lurcher girl Frenchy! – Mike Forrest

Liliana

Liliana (black/white) with new parents, James & Susie with Bird (Terrier mix) & Buns (Lurcher).

These adopters came in with two smaller dogs in tow: an 11 year old lurcher named Buns and a 13 year old terrier mix named Bird. We never know how our hounds will react to that but fortunately we were able to find a couple that did really well. The girl they chose to join their pack was a little on the shy side at first, and very sweet and polite with the other dogs. So, congratulations to our 1 1/2 year old lurcher Liliana and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Bobby

Bobby with new Dad and Mom, Kyle and Janelle.

These recent adopters came in looking for their first dog as a family. They have met greyhounds at events and other places but have never had one of their own. They came in with a list of dogs they wanted to see, and we added a couple as well. The way it worked out we ended up bringing out a parade of five black greyhounds in a row! Somehow, they were able to keep them all straight in their head and narrowed down the list to a boy and a girl. Both did a great job of introducing themselves, but it was the boy’s attentive personality that won them over in the end. Congratulations to 3 1/2 year old Bobby from Australia and his new family! – Mike Forrest
