Moe

Moe with his new family … Yusef, Giselle & Mohammed

Sometimes a dog has to be in more than one home before it finds the absolute best place for itself and that is just the situation that this dog has been in. He has been in a couple of homes and, unfortunately, they were unable to deal with his terrible separation anxiety (SA). (BTW, it is no small job to help a dog through this problem and it can take months and months of work to get it to a manageable level.) Luckily, one day, a woman and her two sons walked into the kennel, met & fell in love with this wonderful dog and they were totally undaunted by the task ahead of them. She is a PhD student and has a flexible schedule that has allowed her to slowly work this dog through the SA training —this has definitely been a true labor of love. Through this family’s efforts, this guy has blossomed into a happy, more confident, outgoing boy and his separation anxiety is greytly improved. Moe is so happy to be with his new family and I know they are happy he is officially a family member now!!

Luna

Luna with her new dads, Jeremy & Devon

Doing turnout can sometimes be dangerous to your emotional health — especially if you meet “your” dog immediately and you aren’t quite ready to adopt. (Face it, it’s really hard not to fall in love with these dogs!!) That is what happened in this situation. One of the men did turnout and, on his second shift, he met “his” dog! Then all he had to do was convince his partner that adopting this dog was a good idea & get his landlord to fix his fence. I’m not sure that much of anything could have slowed this guy down — he & his partner got everything done and they came to get their new family member. They were so excited to take Luna (our sweet, brindle girl from South Korea) home — they acted like two little kids that were excitedly waiting for Santa to arrive!!!

Asha

Asha (left) with her new family … Jason, Michele and Maizie

Through the years, this couple has had 5 of our Greyhounds and, after recently losing one of them, they and their current Grey, Maizie, were ready to adopt their 6th.  When they heard we were going to be getting dogs from Ireland, they hopped right on it and made sure they were at the top of the list for an opportunity to adopt one of them. They looked at most of the Irish dogs and, truthfully, they are all pretty special — I kept wondering how they were going to make a decision. They were able to narrow down to three and then it took a little thinking, discussion and possibly some compromise before they made the final decision that Asha was the one for them!

Kane

Kane (right & nka Theo) with his new family … Jon, Teresa & Gia (fka Cherry)

Whenever we get a shy dog, we know we are going to be looking for a special kind of adopter (of course, all of our adopters are special!!) because shy dogs need to be handled carefully so that they can blossom. That’s compounded by the fact that it is really hard to picture what these dogs are going to be like and it is hard for them to connect with people immediately, so they get passed over by many people. Thankfully, there are folks who can’t wait to have dogs like this. This particular couple already has one of our dogs, Gia (fka Cherry) and she needed a buddy. They came in looking for a shy dog and we had just the one for them — this sweet, brindle guy that thought the world was pretty scary. Gia and her parents knew that they were the perfect ones for Kane and he would be a special addition to their home and we agree!!

Ponce

Ponce with his new parents Steven & Sarah

This couple recently lost their Lurcher and was ready for a new family member. They came with open minds and we showed them quite a variety of dogs from young to older and active to calm. Interestingly the two dogs that they narrowed their list down to were pretty much opposites — a young, very active female Lurcher and a purebred Greyhound that was a little older and much calmer. It was a tough decision for the couple but they decided that our gorgeous, fawn boy, Ponce was the one for them!

Gigi, Melina, Canele, Honey, Rocket

Gigi

Gigi (right) with her new mom, Susan, and fur brother Floyd

This lady has one of our gorgeous Irish dogs, Floyd, and almost ever since she got him, she has wanted a buddy for him. Unfortunately, Floyd wasn’t particularly interested in having a buddy and he let his mom know how he felt. She periodically introduced him to potential pals with no luck, but she didn’t give up. A few weeks ago she was doing turnout and she met and fell in love with a beautiful 9 year old black girl that had just been returned. We all crossed our fingers when we introduced her to Floyd and, amazingly, Floyd thought that Gigi was pretty cool — Success!!!!  Gigi (right) with her new mom, Susan, and fur brother Floyd.

Melina

Melina with her new dad, Bill

The man that came to the kennel recently lost his lab and has been feeling kind of lost without him because that dog was his best friend and did everything with him. He was looking for another best friend and we all know that finding a new best friend is not an easy job. He met a few of our dogs and I think he knew the minute he met this dog that it was the one for him. But, he took a little time to talk to his family and think things through and they all unanimously said that this cute & very smart girl from Dubai would be the perfect best friend for him. Melina not only agreed, but I think she knew he would be her best friend too — who could ask for more?

Canele

Canele with his new mom and dad, Samara & Matt. Missing from the picture are his new canine siblings Inch and Kit

This husband and wife have been waiting a long time for this boy to arrive and have been following him ever since he was rescued in South Korea. This boy has worked his way through a number of health issues and managed to overcome them. And who can resist this darling hugger and kisser who is destined to be a therapy dog. Canele is very loved in his new home.

Honey and Rocket

Honey (left) & Rocket (middle & nka Roxie) with her new family …. Rob, Kelly & Ruby (fka Inez)

We recently had two lovely ladies that came back to us because they were not particularly enjoying living with 18 month old twins. Our hope was that they would be able to go to their next home together and, thankfully, two men who have had many of our dogs saw the girls in pictures from the Brightwater walk (and, of course, they were immediately smitten)! Even though they already had one dog and had been looking for another for a while, they were a little nervous about the idea of adding two dogs to their household, but they really wanted to meet the girls to see if they would get along with their current dog, Ruby (fka Inez). They fit in just beautifully and we are so thankful that Honey & Rocket (nka Roxie) found a greyt new home and that they were able to stay together!!

Donna Lynn

Donna Lynn (nka Jenny) with her new parents, Shari & Alex

We have all wondered why this particular dog has been with us as long as she has and the answer we came up with is that she has been waiting for her family to come for her. Well, it finally happened and she had so much fun showing off and making sure they knew they were hers. They knew immediately and even though they looked at two other dogs and, as wonderful as those dogs were, there was no way they were even contenders. It was really fun watching our last dog from Hawaii, Donna Lynn (nka Jenny), prance out the door with her new parents!!

Tequila, Biggie, Ivy, Nuri, Hansa

Tequila

Tequila with her new parents, Warren & Marja

Here is another greyt example of someone doing turnout and falling in love with one of the dogs. This couple only had to do turnout once to realize they wanted to adopt a certain dog and they better get busy doing an application and home visit ASAP. In truth, it was good that they moved quickly because there were quite a few other people who were interested in this dog. They were the lucky humans who got to take Tequila home!!!

Biggie

Biggie with his new mom, Jessica

First, a lady came to meet dogs and the fun part is her list of dogs included a few of the dogs who have been here awhile. And it was even more fun when her top two choices were also dogs that have been on an extended stay with us! The lucky guy that she finally chose should have lots of fun on walks in a couple of nearby parks and lots of loving from her family and friends. Way to go Biggie!

Ivy

Ivy with her new mom, Midge & sister, Kyla (fka Rhythm)

When someone has had 16 Greyhounds in 27 years and volunteered with GPI for many years, you would think that the adoption of another Grey would be pretty low-key but, in this lady’s case, you would think she was adopting one of her first Greys. She had a big smile on her face as she left with her new addition, Ivy, and l think I may have seen a little smile on Kyla’s face too (she was fka Rhythm).

Nuri and Hansa

Nuri (left) & Hasna with her new mom & dad, Holly & Mike

We had a very happy afternoon at the kennel because a couple came to look at our puppies. They were a little unsure about whether they wanted one dog or two, but when they met our dynamic duo — the sister and brother puppy act from the UAE – there was absolutely no way they could do anything but fall in love and take home both Nuri and Hasna!!!
