Jett

Jett with new Mom Denise & Dad Fernando & Brother Odie (L).

This adoption was to a regular volunteer and previous GPI adopter. They lost their Opal at the age of 12 last year and have been looking for a new friend for their 8-year-old boy Odie. We had a senior girl returned to us recently due to her owner’s health, and they thought there might be a good match there with Odie. And it turns out they were right! Congratulations to Jett and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Vicki

Vicki nka Clover (front – Irish), with new dad Tom and mom Carter, Sister Leia (on couch – Team Inch).

This next adoption was to another family that previously adopted from GPI around 4 years ago. That dog is a Team Inch girl from South Korea named Leia, and the time was right to find her a playmate. She gets along with dogs of all sizes, so it was just a matter of finding a match for her playful nature. We introduced several greyhounds and mixes, and they all got along well, but it was a petite 4-year-old Irish girl named Vicki, nka Clover who charmed her new parents and found her new pack! – Mike Forrest

Patty

Patty with new Dad, Mike.

This recent adoption was to me! (Mike Forrest) I have been fostering Patty for the last few months, and this is my second “foster fail”. Patty came to us from the Kauai Humane Society as a rambunctious 1- year-old and is still as playful as ever after a year at GPI. She keeps my two greyhounds on their toes and makes a great playmate for them. And she’s a very sweet girl and a great cuddler – who could resist?? – Mike Forrest

Max

Max (middle), Carrot (L) & Zigzag with (L to R) Mom & Dad Kristin and Zach with daughters Delilah and Daphne.

These adopters have brought home a number of our dogs over the years and have been on the lookout for a new addition to their pack of two 8-year-olds: Zigzag from Florida (fka Megan) and Carrot from South Korea (fka Phantom). We had introduced a few dogs to them previously and Carrot got along with everybody but Zigzag proved to be a little picky about her new companions. When they saw that we had a 7-year-old Irish boy returned to us due to a family situation, they thought it could be a good fit and got in touch. Zigzag wasn’t quite sure but Max quickly won over the rest of the family with his playful antics and affectionate nature. It took a few days, but Zigzag eventually came around and today they made it official – congratulations to Max and his new pack! – Mike Forrest

Hope

Hope, nka Dove with new brother Maurice with new parents Erin & Tyler.

These adopters lost their senior greyhound last year and were looking for a new companion for their other pup Maurice. He’s an easy going guy but not very confident so we needed to find a good match that wouldn’t overwhelm him. We introduced him to several of our international group of pups, and he seemed fine with all of them. But it was the last one he met – a big, confident, outgoing girl from Ireland – that really clicked with him and his mom & dad. So off they went! Congratulations to Hope, now known as Dove, and her new family! – Mike Forrest

We had a puppy adoption day at GPI! As you may have seen, we were recently asked to help find homes for five whippet puppies. We received dozens of applications and quickly got to work. The puppies, now eight weeks old, arrived and got checkups and microchips. And then the five lucky families at the top of our application list drove in from all over the state to pick out their new pups. Congratulations to Nigel, Princess, Croi, Finn, Jet, and their new families! – Mike Forrest

Timmy and Lale

Lale (L) & Timmy (R) with parents, Toby & Stephanie with Reggie, Sid & Harvey & Husky mix, Loki

A family of five came in with their husky/Samoyed mix Loki looking for a new addition. They previously adopted a greyhound girl named Lady from us in 2019 when the kids were a lot smaller. They were looking for a new companion for Loki, and one who could manage being in a home with three active boys. We had a few candidates to introduce, and they all did really well with the kids and Loki which didn’t really help narrow down the choices. After some time in the yard and a family discussion they decided that instead of picking one of the dogs they’d take TWO: a laid back red 2 1/2 year old from Australia named Timmy, and a bouncy nearly two-year old US girl named Lale! (This is Timmy) – Mike Forrest

Rivers

Rivers with her new Mom Lauren & new Dad, Jackson.

These adopters are an experienced greyhound family, but did not have one currently. They came in to meet a bunch of our dogs, and after some deliberation narrowed things down to a couple of possibilities. One of the two that caught their eye was a girl who for whatever reason decided she was too shy to come over to them for pets, but was still happy enough to show off her playful side out in the yard zooming around them and playing with a ball. Well, despite her initial hesitation she must have made a good impression because they came back today to work with her and our trainer for a while and then brought her home with them! Congratulations to our lurcher girl Rivers and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Sally

Sally with new family, son Max with Joker, Dad Russell & Mom Viola.

This family, including a regular GPI volunteer, has been waiting for a dog who could live with their cats, chickens, and senior Klee Kai, and their patience paid off! We recently received six dogs from Ireland, and this perky little 3 1/2 year old girl passed our cat testing with flying colors. It was a couple of weeks before she was ready to go home and yesterday was the big day – congratulations to Sally and her new pack! – Mike Forrest

Baxter, Jack, Fru, Jess

Baxter

Baxter (R) with Mom Kim and Ernie (L).

This adoption is a 7-year-old who was returned to us about a year ago due to a medical emergency in his family. He has lived in several foster homes since then. Well, his most recent one turned out to be the perfect fit for him, and today they made things official! Let’s welcome Baxter to his new forever home with one of our long-time volunteers and his new 10-year-old greyhound sibling Ernie! – Mike Forrest

Jack

At the request of Jack’s new family, we do not have a family photo to share but here’s Jack on his Gotcha Day.

This family previously adopted from us nearly 10 years ago and  recently came in looking for a new companion. They wanted to meet a whole variety of greyhounds and we were happy to oblige! After narrowing down the list it came down to two of our bigger boys, but in the end, it was the one with the big personality that made the best connection. So, congratulations to our UK boy Jack and his new family! At the request of Jack’s new family, there is no family photo. – Mike Forrest

Fru

New parents Kyle and Carol and their son, Christopher.

We recently had a 1-year-old whippet-ish mix turned into us because she was a little too exuberant with the resident cats. She’s a delightful, energetic, playful pup who loves people and is eager to learn. She needed a family that would be able to tire her out while also working with her on her puppy behaviors and training. Then a couple who volunteered at GPI many years ago contacted us looking for a smaller pup for them and their nearly 4-year-old son. After an introduction and some time working with our trainer they brought her home as a foster, and today they officially adopted Fru, who is now known as Pru (short for Prudence)!

Jess

Jess with new Mom, Madison and new Grandma, Julie.

This adopter has been around greyhounds for a long time but has never had one of her own. Her mom even volunteers with GPI regularly! The time was finally right to adopt, so she decided to come in and meet some of the dogs she had heard so much about. We introduced quite a few hounds, but it was the last one to come out – a bouncy, affectionate black 4-year-old from Australia – that really showed off her stuff and made a quick connection. After a Brightwater walk this morning they signed the papers – congratulations to Jess (now known as Onyx) and her new mom & grandma!

Lola, Ruby, Ride, Monty, Dash, Friday

Lola and Ruby

Two siblings Lola (L) & Ruby (R) with new Dads, John (L) & Roger (R).

These adopters brought home a pair of pups from us a little over 10 years ago. Sadly, both hounds have since passed, but they felt that the time was right to adopt again. They came to our open house over the weekend and met a bunch of our available hounds but really took note when they found out that we had two sisters from England in the kennel. These two happy girls are hard to resist, especially when they’re together! So, congratulations to Lola and Ruby and their new dads! – Mike Forrest

Ride

Ride (L) with Mom Nayell & Dad Maison & Brother Grandad (R).

This family adopted one of our pups (Grandad) way back in December of 2024 and quickly discovered what a lot of us already know: the only thing better than a greyhound is two greyhounds! So they came in to find a pal for Grandad, which was not hard because he got along with pretty much all of the dogs we introduced him to. He really seemed to hit things off with one boy though, and this guy also showed off his great leaning skills. After that it didn’t take long for them to add 2 1/2 year old Ride to their pack! Mike Forrest

Monty

Monty with new parents Kevin & Evelyn.

These adopters have been wanting to adopt for a while now, but the time just wasn’t right. But now that they’re settled into a new home with a nice yard it was the perfect opportunity! They came in with an open mind and met a number of our dogs, but it’s hard to resist a good greyhound lean. And Monty is a very good leaner, and an accomplished ball player as well! Congratulations to this three-year old boy from the UK and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Dash

Dash with Dads, John & Joe.

This adoption was one of three brothers who came to us from Bahrain last year. All three were very shy and nervous around people and in new situations. Our wonderful volunteers and staff have been patiently working with them ever since to help them overcome their fears. And now after some time in foster adjusting to home life, this marks a new beginning for Dash and his family! Congratulations! – Mike Forrest

Friday

Friday nka Nepter with new Mom, Lauren.

This adopter has been volunteering at GPI for several months while waiting for the right dog to arrive. The challenge is that she and her partner have a cat so there aren’t many hounds to choose from. Fortunately, a big chill boy arrived recently from Australia who did great in our cat testing. She worked with him to make sure he was ready to face all of the challenges of home life and then made things official! Congratulations to Friday, now known as Nepter, and his new family! – Mike Forrest
