Shoni, Heaven, Judd, Bianca

July 29, 2025

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Shoni

Shoni, nka Moose, new mom, Emily & dad, Alex.

Recently a couple came in looking for their first greyhound. They previously had a labradoodle but never a sighthound. But they also recently adopted a two year old cat so we needed to find a greyhound who would be ok with a new feline friend. When our latest load of dogs arrived from West Virginia there was one boy who did really well in our cat testing. He’s a nervous guy by nature so he wasn’t quite sure about meeting new people, but fortunately this family has experience with shy dogs and saw his potential right away. So, congratulations to Shoni, now known as Moose, and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Heaven

Heaven nka Margot (L), new dad, Kaleb, mom, Jamie and sister, Cindy (R).

These adopters came in looking for a companion for their 11yo greyhound Cindy who they adopted from us in 2020. Cindy is a retired brood mom and generally a pretty easy-going girl. But she doesn’t like dogs that are too nosy or pushy, so we made sure to introduce some of our more polite pups. She ended up doing well with all of them, so it was up to mom & dad to decide. They narrowed it down to a couple of options, and after sleeping on it decided on a cute, friendly 2 year old fawn girl from West Virginia named Heaven. She’s now going by Margot – congratulations to her and her new pack! – Mike Forrest

Judd

Judd, nka Moses with new Dads, Jack and Bill.

This adoption was truly a team effort. This little 15lb, 1.5-year-old guy was found abandoned in a crate and was turned into a shelter in the Portland area. Since he looked like he could be an Italian Greyhound mix they reached out to us to see if we could take him on. He was very shy and uncomfortable around new people, so as soon as he got to our kennel our staff and volunteers started working with him. It took a little while, but he started to trust people more and figured out the kennel routine. One of our volunteer trainers took him on as a foster and continued working with him in her home where he really started to come out of his shell. Eventually a couple reached out to us about the possibility of adopting him, so we set up an introduction. They knew it was going to be a long process and have been taking things slowly with him, and he has really started to blossom! They knew he had found his forever home and decided to make it official – congratulations to Judd, now known as Moses, and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Bianca

Bianca, nka Inky with new Dad, Tim & Mom, Eileen.

This recent adoption was to a family that last adopted from GPI nearly 20 years ago. They recently wrapped up some long trips and decided it was time to settle down with a new hound. They came in with one pup in mind, and this 3-year-old Australian girl did not disappoint! Congratulations to Bianca, now going by Inky, and her new family! – Mike Forrest
