Girly, Digger, Rosco, Matilda, Rusty

June 25, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Girly

Girly (No family photo available)

These recent  adopters came over from Eastern Washington looking for their first greyhound. They have a 6 year old daughter so we had to make sure that a new dog would be ok around kids. They also had their heart set on a girl so that narrowed things down a bit! Fortunately, we did have a sweet girl who fit the bill – a recent arrival from the UK named Girly!  – Mike Forrest

Digger

Digger & Family

These adopters came in with a youngster, in this case a 2 1/2 year old boy. We had to make sure that we could find a dog that would be ok with a tiny person around, and we had a few boys to choose from. One guy was a little too shy and nervous, one was a little too excited, but the third did really well and headed off to his new home in BC – another recent UK arrival named Digger! – Mike Forrest

Rosco

Rosco (L) with new Dad Rich, Mom Nancy & sister Edie.

A family came in looking for a new companion for their greyhound Edie who they adopted from GPI last year. Edie is a sweet girl who loves people and other dogs so we wanted to make sure we could find a match for her with the same kind of energy. We introduced them all to a couple of our boys, but it was the first one we tried who really made an impression. He and Edie greeted each other calmly and exchanged play bows before realizing it was a little too hot out for zoomies and deciding to go back to their humans for some pets instead. But I’m sure Edie and our Irish boy Rosco have plenty of zoomies in store now that they’re siblings! – Mike Forrest

Matilda

Matilda, nka Harrie (R), niece Lucy & Mom, Darcy, Penny, fka Kayko.

Another recent adoption was to a long-time greyhound owner looking for a new companion and a friend for her girl Penny who she adopted from GPI 5-years-ago. She had her eye on one perky little Irish girl from the start, and luckily Penny approved! So, they made it official and now Penny and Matilda (now known as Harriet or Harri) are adopted sisters! – Mike Forrest

Rusty

Rusty (R) with new Mom, Eileen and sister, Ibiza.

This adoption was also to a long-time greyhound family going back over 20 years. They lost one of their greyhounds recently and their girl Ibiza missed having a friend around. There are also two cats in the mix so that really narrowed down the choices to one: a very sweet Irish boy named Rusty! – Mike Forrest

Dyno, Bernard, Best, Copar

Dyno

Dyno with new Mom, Leslie & new sister, Rachel.

These adopters are a mother & daughter who were looking for a greyhound suitable for apartment living. They previously had a Jack Russell mix but this is their first greyhound. We recently got in a few dogs that could fit the bill, so we had them come in for introductions. One happy four-year-old from the UK worked his magic on them and the only remaining question was whether he’d be comfortable going up and down their stairs. We went on a quick field trip and Dyno conquered the stairs immediately, so now he’s off to his new home! – Mike Forrest

Bernard

Bernard, nka Bernie with new Dad, Rob & Mom, Cleone with IGs, Rose & Lily.

Recently, a couple made the trip down from Canada to find a dog that could get along with two senior Italian Greyhounds. We don’t have a lot of dogs that would fit the bill, but we did at least have a couple to try. The first one that came out introduced himself politely to the IGs and the people and made quite a first impression. Then after some off-leash time and a few belly rubs out in the yard it was clear that gentle Irish boy Bernard, now known as Bernie, would be heading to Canada! – Mike Forrest

Best

Best (R) with new Mom Kristi & Dad John & Prim.

A family of long-time greyhound owners came in looking for a new buddy for their girl Prim. Prim is an active, bouncy little girl so we wanted to make sure we could find a partner who could keep up with her. We introduced them to one girl and several of our boys, and they all did a great job of introducing themselves and showing off their personalities. Things became clearer when we let the dogs loose in the yard – one was a little too preoccupied with chasing balls and another was a little too bossy, but one matched Prim’s temperament really well and they immediately seemed comfortable around each other. So Prim has a new buddy – a bouncy boy from the UK named Best! – Mike Forrest

Copar

Copar with new parents, Trisha & Chris.

We often say that volunteering at GPI is a great way to meet our dogs, and this adoption is no exception! This couple recently lost their first greyhound Gus and started coming to GPI to take our dogs on Brightwater walks. It didn’t take long for them to fall for one of them, so after today’s walk they made it official! It’s our mellow boy from the UK – Copar! – Mike Forrest

Lizzy: June Dog of the Month

June 1, 2024

lizzyjunetitle

Please contact Moira Corrigan ([email protected]) for more information about Lizzy.

Lizzy
Tag No: 6947
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth: Approx May 5, 2021
Color: Brindle
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, Unknown with others
Kid Friendly: No young children
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Weight 52 pounds
Comments: Lizzy is upbeat, friendly and outgoing. She is happy about life and loves to play! She loves her walks with our volunteers and is a great walker!! She can be a little vocal in the car, but loves car rides. She loves butt scritches and rubs, and she gives kisses. Lizzy will need an active home and is not suitable for an apartment/condo/townhome. She will need a home without cats or small dogs, and she is likely too active for young children. Lizzy came to us from South Korea and is likely a greyhound mix.

Ginger, Jack, Hooper

Ginger

Ginger nka Nigel with new parents, Mike and Tamara.

These recent adopters have been waiting for a greyhound who could both live in an apartment and get along with their cat. Well fortunately in our latest load of dogs that we got from the UK, one fit the bill! And he did a great job of introducing himself and showing off his chill demeanor. The lucky boy is Ginger, now known as Nigel! – Mike Forrest

Jack

Jack nka Disco (L) with new Dad, Sam and Stud (fka Luke)

This adopter came in looking for a second dog. He adopted a South Korean greyhound named Stud (formerly Luke) from us a couple of years ago, and it was time for him to have a new buddy. We introduced several of our recent UK arrivals to see how they would get along with Luke, and he did great with all of them! So it was up to the adopter and he picked a sweet, gentle 3.5 year old named Jack, now known as Disco! – Mike Forrest

Hooper

Hooper (L) nka Indigo, with Dad Machias, son Dimitri & Mom Georgina with Hygge fka Lily.

This little guy came to us a few months ago from South Korea via Team Inch. He hasn’t quite been ready to leave the kennel since then, so his adopters have been patiently waiting. They and their other girl Hygge (formerly Lily) who is also a Team Inch dog from South Korea have been visiting him at the kennel every week in the meantime. Well the day finally came, so little Hooper, now known as Indigo, has left us and officially joined his new family! – Mike Forrest

Maia, Hugo, Storm, Candy

May 3, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Maia

Maia nka Lina (short for Topolina, a small mouse in Italian) with Mom Deb, Daughter Gina & Dad, Chris.

Lately it’s been a busy time for our Australian hounds – two have headed off to their forever homes! Our first adoption was to a family that has been volunteering at GPI and waiting for the right dog to come along. The girl they adopted is a gentle blue girl who won over pretty much everybody at the kennel who met her. Congratulations to Australian girl Maia, now known as Lina, and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Hugo

Hugo with Mom Shelley, Sister Laine & Dad Glen.

These adopters made the trip down from the Vancouver area to meet some of our hounds. They have not had a greyhound before, but their neighbor does and apparently is a great ambassador! We introduced several of our greyhounds and mixes, but one made it very clear that he was going to go home with them: our remarkably easy-going Australian boy Hugo! – Mike Forrest

Storm

Storm (L) with new Dad, Jeremy & Rocket.

This adopter made the trip up from the Portland area with his four year old greyhound boy Rocket. They recently lost two senior packmates at the ages of 13 and 14 and Rocket needed a new buddy. The dog that they chose just happens to be our April Dog of the Month, and he’s a happy, fun guy who we think will also greatly benefit from having another greyhound to hang out with. Congratulations to Irish boy Storm and his new family! – Mike Forrest

Candy

Candy nka Shiloh with new Mom & Dad Terri and Tim.

These recent adopters came in looking for a dog that could get along with their two cats. They have not had sighthounds before, but are experienced dog people. The dog that they were interested in was a very shy girl from Bahrain, and it took a lot of coaxing just to get her to introduce herself. Fortunately this family has experience with shy dogs and they have a seemingly bottomless supply of patience and love so they were willing to do whatever it took to make her feel at home. She has made incredible progress since she moved into her new home and has been steadily gaining confidence. So congratulations to Candy, now known as Shiloh, on officially joining her new pack! – Mike Forrest
