Kiki, Daffodil, Zane

August 5, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Kiki

Kiki (L) with new parents, Karin & Jason & Ciara fka Cooler.

These adopters are no strangers to GPI having adopted several dogs from us over the years. They came in with Ciara (fka Cooler), their four-year-old girl from Ireland. Ciara needed a new playmate, but one that wouldn’t overwhelm or intimidate her. They saw that we have several shy/nervous dogs up for adoption right now and felt that one of those might be a good fit for them and Ciara. So, we introduced a few to see how they would get along. The one that won them all over very quickly was a very shy but very cute young lurcher girl who recently arrived from California – Kiki! – Mike Forrest

Daffodil

Daffodil with new Mom & Dad, Pat and The Mister.

These recent adopters have been near & dear to GPI for over two decades, and this is their 12th adoption from us! They have been coming to the kennel for turnout as well as spending extra time working with some of our shy dogs while looking out for their next hound. Well, they found her, or she found them, so congratulations to our red four-year-old Daffodil and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Zane

Zane (R) with Grandmom Ruth, Mom Jennifer, Dad Brian and sister Dana.

This adoption was to a family that brought home two of our greyhounds several years ago. Sadly, one of them passed recently, and their girl Dana who originally came to us from Jerusalem needed a new buddy to play with. Dana is on the shy side but active and playful so they wanted to find a hound that could keep up with her. They saw the bio of one particular dog on our website and thought he’d be a good match, and they were absolutely right! Congratulations to them and their new brindle boy Zane who just turned two this week! – Mike Forrest

Kash: August Dog of the Month

July 31, 2024

Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville ([email protected]) for more information about Kash.

Kash
Tag No: 7008
Registered Name: None
Breed: Pharoah Hound Mix
Date of Birth: Approx Jan 10, 2022
Color: Red Fawn
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with dogs his size, Unknown with others
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Weight: 30 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: Kash is a fun, playful, friendly and outgoing guy! He will just make you smile! He is active and higher energy, but also likes some cuddle time and affection. Kash is young and hasn't had much guidance in life, so he is still very much a puppy in training. Kash will need an active home, with a fenced yard, who can give him the exercise and guidance he needs. Kash will need a home without cats. Kash came to us from Hawaii.

Rumble, Margo, Turnip, Amelia

July 19, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Rumble

Rumble nka Edith, Dad, Ron & Wort fka Cannon (White & Black).

This adopter brought in his 9-year-old greyhound boy Wort looking for a new companion. Wort was very cooperative and got along with all the dogs we introduced, so it came down to a difficult choice between a brindle boy and a blue girl. After some time in the yard it became clear that Wort was going to go home with a new girlfriend – UK girl Rumble, now known as Edith! – Mike Forrest

Margo

Margo, nka Sadie with Mom Lisa & Dad Michael & Winston.

These recent adopters are long-time GPI volunteers and previously had a greyhound. They currently have a smaller mix named Winston who started life in Mexico. Winston can have a hard time meeting new dogs, so it was important to first get him used to that before meeting potential siblings. So, they worked with our trainer and went on group walks with a couple of our volunteers and their greyhounds, and Winston started to do much better. He was eventually ready to meet some new greyhounds, and did really well with a sweet, friendly 4 year old girl that the family had taken on Brightwater walks. Today they made it official and Margo, now known as Sadie, joined their pack! – Mike Forrest

Turnip

Turnip with new mom, Danielle.

This adopter recently lost her first greyhound and decided it was time to find a new companion. She lives downtown and likes to go on long walks so we wanted to make sure to match her up with a hound that could keep up. I think she picked a good one – our big Australian boy Turnip! – Mike Forrest

Amelia

Amelia with new parents, Holly & Steve.

These next adopters came in looking for their first greyhound, and one that would like hanging out with dad at work at a local brewery. As you would imagine this might be a challenge for many of our dogs, but I think they found one who will thrive with the extra attention. She had a rough go of things in South Korea where she was found with a badly broken leg. Our friends at Team Inch picked her up and got her the medical attention she needed, including putting in a plate to repair the fractures. She finished her long recovery with us here at GPI, and since she’s such a sweet affectionate girl who loves to give everybody hugs we knew it wouldn’t take long for her to be adopted. So congratulations to Amelia and her new family! – Mike Forrest

Dixie, Jet, Elliot, Dania, Sarita

July 13, 2024

Join us here as our Adoption Representatives share stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Dixie

Dixie (black) with new parents, Teena & Dave & Nya, Fka Sandy.

These adopters have had many GPI dogs over the years and made the trip from Eastern Washington to find a companion for their current girl Nya (fka Sandy). We introduced a couple of dogs that we thought might get along with her and both did great! This left the decision up to mom & dad and it was a tough one! It came down to the wire, but they ended up picking a mellow girl from the UK named Dixie! – Mike Forrest

Jet

Jet (black), new Mom, Erin (on the right with Harbor), Erin’s sister Leesa (on the left with Jet).

These recent adopters made a long trek to GPI, and are long-time greyhound owners. They came in looking for their 7th greyhound and brought along their current 9-year-old girl Harbor. At first Harbor wasn’t quite sure about the dogs we brought out to meet her, but she quickly came around and got along with everybody. After some time in the yard in between downpours they decided to bring home a gentle UK boy named Jet! – Mike Forrest

Elliot

Elliot (left) with new Dad, Gene & Mom, Tammie with Tyrion (S Korea).

It’s always a fun day when one of our longer-term residents finds the perfect home they’ve been waiting for. Almost 5 years ago a family came to us and adopted an 8-month-old deerhound mix puppy who had come in from South Korea via Team Inch Sighthound Rescue. At the time they also had another greyhound and a deerhound. Sadly, both of those other dogs have passed away and it was time for a grown-up Tyrion to find a new buddy. It just so happens that we had a few “fuzzy” deerhound/borzoi mixes in the kennel to introduce to him along with our retired racers. One South Korean/Team Inch boy in particular really seemed to match Tyrion’s energy level, introducing himself and very politely prompting Tyrion to play. We will all miss him at the kennel, but I have no doubt that Elliot and his new buddy will have a great time together back at home zooming around their 10 acre fenced yard! – Mike Forrest

Dania

Dania nka Dani with new parents, Glenn & Charlotte.

One day a couple made the drive down from eastern BC to meet some of our dogs. They were introduced to the greyhound breed around 15 years ago at a meet & greet but the time hasn’t been right to adopt until now! They got to meet a bunch of our dogs and quickly narrowed down the list to a couple of girls. Since they had come a long way they stayed the night, and the next morning they took one of them out on a “test drive” on our Brightwater walk and she did great! So, they packed up and headed home with 3-year-old brindle girl Dania, now known as Dani! – Mike Forrest

Sarita

Sarita nka Sadie with Mom Shawna holding Ollie, Dad David with Oscar from UAE, their son, Evan in the middle.

Well, this one sure didn’t take long. On a Friday we welcomed a 2-year-old Saluki girl in from Qatar. Then on that Sunday a family came in looking for a new playmate for their Saluki mix Oscar who they adopted from GPI 4 years ago. They also have a small Rat Terrier mix named Ollie, and we don’t have many dogs in the kennel right now that are good with smaller critters. But our new arrival Sarita, now known as Sadie, had no problem at all with that and immediately won everybody over with her playful, cuddly personality. And so she headed off to her new home! – Mike Forrest

Pandora: July Dog of the Month

June 30, 2024

Please contact Greyhound Pets, Inc. Woodinville ([email protected]) for more information about Pandora.

Pandora
Tag No: 7009
Registered Name: None
Breed: Greyhound Mix
Date of Birth:  Approx Jan 2021
Color: Fawn
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: Unknown
Weight:  63 pounds
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: Pandora is a fun-loving sighthound with a million-watt smile and a personality to match. A volunteer and staff favorite, Pandora is Pop-u-lar! When you meet her you too will be won over by her relaxed, friendly charm and humorous antics.

Pandora is a long-legged blonde with a mysterious past. All we know about her former life is she was rescued by our friends at Team Inch Sighthound Rescue from a South Korean dog shelter. Pandora’s gene pool is a true sighthound party mix, comprised of 77% Greyhound, 14% Irish Wolfhound, 5% Borzoi, 2% Polish Greyhound, and 2% other stuff. Pandora is about the same height of a larger greyhound but a bit fuzzier and very strong for her size.

She absolutely loves all people and loves to play and frolic in our large grassy play yard (alone or with a human friend). When she isn’t playing with people, she is a confident, low-key, and independent girl who will happily amuse herself by tossing toys up to pounce on! After playtime she’s also glad just to chill by your side.

No guarantees, but we think Pandora will make a great housemate. The GPI kennel attendants give Pandora an “A+” at keeping her kennel tidy and she hasn’t shown to be much of a barker. Pandora is very bright and is an eager pupil who likes to learn.

As much as Pandora adores people, she cannot live with cats or other small animals. Nor is she really a fan of other dogs, particularly stranger dogs. While Pandora is cordial to the other dogs at GPI and can tolerate walks with sighthounds or other dogs to whom she has been properly introduced, she is reactive to dogs who are strangers. Pandora’s trainer has made huge strides in reducing/controlling her reactivity when she encounters strange dogs in the world outside of GPI. We think Pandora’s reactivity will continue to improve with her new family if they will commit to a regular desensitization practice. Pandora’s adoption includes four one-hour private training sessions with her professional trainer who will show her new family how to handle and lessen her dog reactivity.

Her family can be quiet or busy, and possibly have older, dog-savvy kids. But because of her size and strength her family should have no little children. Pandora’s home needs to be with an experienced dog owner in a quiet area with a large, fenced yard in which to play and lounge. She is not suited for life where she will have chance encounters with strange dogs in close quarters. Thus, Pandora should not be in a densely populated situation like an apartment/condo/townhome, an urban area, or another closely packed area (e.g., farmers market, dog friendly pub, and pet store). That said, Pandora will be a great companion for hiking in lesser frequented areas, camping, and other unpopulated outdoor adventures. She loves walks and has nice leash manners when there are no stranger dogs nearby.
