Donna Lynn

Donna Lynn (nka Jenny) with her new parents, Shari & Alex

We have all wondered why this particular dog has been with us as long as she has and the answer we came up with is that she has been waiting for her family to come for her. Well, it finally happened and she had so much fun showing off and making sure they knew they were hers. They knew immediately and even though they looked at two other dogs and, as wonderful as those dogs were, there was no way they were even contenders. It was really fun watching our last dog from Hawaii, Donna Lynn (nka Jenny), prance out the door with her new parents!!

Tequila

Tequila with her new parents, Warren & Marja

Here is another greyt example of someone doing turnout and falling in love with one of the dogs. This couple only had to do turnout once to realize they wanted to adopt a certain dog and they better get busy doing an application and home visit ASAP. In truth, it was good that they moved quickly because there were quite a few other people who were interested in this dog. They were the lucky humans who got to take Tequila home!!!

Biggie

Biggie with his new mom, Jessica

First, a lady came to meet dogs and the fun part is her list of dogs included a few of the dogs who have been here awhile. And it was even more fun when her top two choices were also dogs that have been on an extended stay with us! The lucky guy that she finally chose should have lots of fun on walks in a couple of nearby parks and lots of loving from her family and friends. Way to go Biggie!

Ivy

Ivy with her new mom, Midge & sister, Kyla (fka Rhythm)

When someone has had 16 Greyhounds in 27 years and volunteered with GPI for many years, you would think that the adoption of another Grey would be pretty low-key but, in this lady’s case, you would think she was adopting one of her first Greys. She had a big smile on her face as she left with her new addition, Ivy, and l think I may have seen a little smile on Kyla’s face too (she was fka Rhythm).

Nuri and Hansa

Nuri (left) & Hasna with her new mom & dad, Holly & Mike

We had a very happy afternoon at the kennel because a couple came to look at our puppies. They were a little unsure about whether they wanted one dog or two, but when they met our dynamic duo — the sister and brother puppy act from the UAE – there was absolutely no way they could do anything but fall in love and take home both Nuri and Hasna!!!

Biscuit, Joker, Heaven, Breaker, Coach, Maria

Biscuit

Biscuit with her new mom, Monica

This adoption was to a couple who probably never guessed that their new dog would be from Hawaii. Actually, they (meaning the wife) fell in love with their potential adoptee by going on the Brightwater walks. And when they decided on their special dog, they got all of their qualification work done very quickly so nobody else could steal her away. They had already spent a little time with this girl they pretty much knew all there was to know about this sweet little girl. I would say that when they selected Biscuit they made a loving, fun and very wise selection!!

Joker

Joker (left) with his new family … Koichi, Yoshiko & Nana

This couple was looking for a companion for their 7 year old Greyhound. We showed them a few dogs, and we were a little surprised when we realized that the best fit for the whole family was a dog that had previously had no interest in the people he met. But this time, he showed the people what he was really like — I guess Joker knew they were his family and he wanted to make sure he would be going home with them.

Heaven

Heaven (nka Winnie) with her new family, Kellie & Isabel

This family came in with a short list of dogs they wanted to see, but they never got past the first dog on the list. This particular dog is the friendliest dog you can imagine and, truly, none of us have understood why she was still at the kennel. She definitely brought her “A” game this time and I don’t think there was any way those people were going to go home without her. This girl does tend to be a bit bossy so we knew she would get her way. She did!! Now, Heaven (nka Winnie) is going to be lapping up all the attention that this family is ready to give!

Breaker

Breaker with his new family … Justin, Parker, Natalie, Evy and Millie

As you’ve heard before, there is no way to predict if a dog is going to have separation anxiety until they get into a home. And, sometimes, when a dog does have SA, the owner can’t change enough things to make it work. This just happened to this man and his situation is definitely an example of making “lemonade out of lemons” — he ended up adopting a gorgeous brindle boy that caught his eye when he was here to adopt the other dog — Breaker!!

Coach

Coach with his new family … Dave & June

This couple came with a list of a few dogs that they wanted to see and the most important characteristic was for the dog they adopted to get along with their daughter’s Greyhound. They had seen all the other dogs on their list and we were waiting for the last one to get to the kennel. When he did finally arrive, the woman took one look at him and said “that’s my dog!!”. Luckily, her husband agreed and they couldn’t wait to take Coach home with them.

Maria

Maria with her new mom, Jamie

The last lady wanted a fairly calm dog that was about 3 years old or over and liked to go on hikes with her. None of the dogs we showed her matched all the things on her wish list and, as you may have guessed, there were a couple that didn’t really match any of her wish list. You may also have guessed that she chose a dog that was pretty much opposite of what she thought she wanted, but that sure didn’t seem to make any difference to her as soon as she met that cute little brindle girl, Maria (who came to us via the Caliente racetrack in Mexico)!!

Sheldon

Sheldon (right) with his new family … Kent, LJ, Lucy (left, fka Lily) & Ethel (fka Wynter)

This couple has already had quite a few of our purebred hounds and they have also grown fond of the Greyhounds we have been getting from South Korea. Currently, they have 12 year old Lucy (fka Dilly — an NGA Greyhound) and 5 year old Ethel (fka Wynter — from South Korea) and they realized that Ethel really needs someone who will play with her. They saw a boy on the Team Inch postings that immediately won their hearts and I’m sure it seems like they have been waiting an eternity for him to get to the U.S. so that they could introduce him to their girls and find out if they would all get along. The day finally came and, truthfully, the first introduction was a little dicey, but once all the dogs simmered down and got comfortable, they had a wonderful time playing together!! So the couple got the Christmas present they had been wanting —- Sheldon!!! (For those of you that don’t know, Team Inch is an organization in South Korea that has worked with GPI to get Greyhound mixes out of their country and into the U.S.)

Crandall

Crandall with his new mom & dad, Markie & Carl

This adoption was to a couple who had their heart set on one dog when they called me yesterday. Unfortunately, I had to tell them that he was spoken for and they were so disappointed. They did look through the website and picked a few other dogs they wanted to see, but they never got to see them. This morning I got a call that the other people had changed their mind so the dog they wanted was available. When I told them, I swear they both lit up like Christmas trees and they hadn’t even met him yet. When we brought him out, I think he knew they were the ones for him! He’s pretty shy and yet he went up to them and wanted to be patted, and had his tail in a normal position — what a difference from the couple of times when we showed him before and he was hesitant to come up to anyone and very subdued. By the time he went home, there was a noticeable difference in his confidence and comfort level with the things that were going on around him. This guy came all the way from Hawaii to find his new home and I think Crandall knows he will be safe and loved!!! (P.S. I think so too!!!!)

Little Big

Little Big (center) with his new family … Angi, Aine (aka mom), Cern, Faolan (left) & Lily

This adopter came with her two human roommates and two Greyhounds (ages 12 & 2) so we obviously had a lot of people/dogs to please. Our sweet puppies all did so well and their reactions were hilarious, cute and just plain sweet as they met this cast of characters. The dog that went home with them was pretty incredible. He walked into the adoption center and immediately went to the lady who would be doing the adopting. He put his paw in her lap, then his arms around her neck to give her a hug and then gave her kisses!! It was pretty obvious he had made up his mind she was his and she totally agreed that our sweet guy from Mexico, Little Big, was hers!

Tuck

Tuck with his new family … Keith, Carmen, Leila & Erika

Sometimes it takes a dog to find the right home through no fault of the dog’s. That is what happened to this guy … in his first home, the man was so allergic to him that he couldn’t breathe. So,the only choice was for the man to bring him back! Then he was in a foster home while he recovered from a surgery, but he was having trouble adapting to all the “goings on” around him. So he needed to find a calmer, less chaotic area to live in. We found it and he now has a whole family to dote on just him! As Tuck (who came to us from the American Lurcher Project) walked out the door of the kennel with his new parents, he had a little spring in his step and he kind of acted like he was showing off his family!!

Mable

Mable (left) with her new family … Steph, Nic & Corvo

This couple came to the kennel a couple of weeks ago to find a buddy for their Italian Greyhound, Corvo. Our introductions were almost something like the “three bears” story. The first one we introduced to Corvo was way too active and the second was way too shy. When neither of those worked, we told the people about a couple of dogs that had just arrived and wouldn’t be available for a couple of weeks. They decided to wait and meet the girls and, guess what, one of them turned out to be “just right”!!! So, Corvo has a new sister named Mable and from the looks of things, they are going to have a greyt time together!!!

Ark

Ark with his new mom, Cindy

I think we forget what hard work it is for our sweet dogs to find their new families. They have to make a greyt impression pretty much the second that they walk in to the adoption center, then pay the appropriate amount of attention to all the people, go outside with them and really show their fun side & then hope they are the one that gets picked. This guy is pretty good at the whole process so he has had some success and also come in second some times. But this time he got what he wanted — his new mom!! Way to go Ark!!

Jade

Jade with his new parents … Cheng & Sierra

One of the reasons that this dog has been here for a while is that he loves toys/balls, people and other dogs in that order! This particular couple was absolutely fine with being second banana to the toys/balls and they were equally as happy that he really had very little interest in their other Greyhound. So, they decided to take their dog and their future dog on the Brightwater walk yesterday and since everybody got along, they decided that Jade was the one for them!!

Vito

Vito with his new mom, Grace

This adoption has been in the works for quite a while and it has definitely been “ a labor of love” for this lady. She fell in love with this little guy the first time she saw him when she did turnout quite a few months ago. Unfortunately, he came to us from Dubai with some knee problems and both knees needed surgery. So, since GPI always wants to make sure that our dogs leave us in the best condition possible, we arranged for the surgeries. This lady wanted to help and agreed to foster him through his surgeries and recovery (which has taken months) and she has done an amazing job. He is now ready for adoption and when she got the news, she was so excited that Vito was going to officially be hers!!!

Jenny

Jenny (nka Selkie) with her new mom, Katherine

We have had more than our share of potential Greyhound owners with unusual circumstances or pets. This one is right up there near the top — this lady has two pet rats that she was hoping her new Greyhound would be able to co-exist with. Given that these dogs would much rather eat a rat than live with it, we knew we wouldn’t have a ton of options for this lady … BUT, our dogs came through for us again!! We actually found 2 possibilities and the lady chose our sweet little girl from South Korea, Jenny (nka Selkie)!!

Fiesta

Fiesta with his new parents … Marcus & Nikki

When a couple comes in with a house, no kids, no cats, no other dogs … our eyes light up because that means they qualify to take home almost any dog we have (just an aside … this rarely happens!!!!). On top of that, they have done turnout a few times so they have had a chance to meet a lot of the dogs and get some idea of what the dogs are like. It was interesting that the list of dogs they wanted to see was quite varied — really different sizes, personalities and backgrounds. In the end, it boiled down to two purebred Greyhounds and, after some deliberation, they decided that our feisty little fellow, Fiesta, who raced in the U. S. and, most recently, the Caliente track in Mexico was the one for them!!

Lita

Lita (nka Mia) with her new parents … SK & YK

We have to start with this one … After almost 2 years, we are all exited to finally be sending one of our dogs to Canada!!!! This couple has been so excited to get their first dog. They came to Woodinville last week to join the Brightwater walk and meet dogs and then they came back today to get to know the dogs a little better and, hopefully, take one home. They saw a wide variety of dogs from one of our largest to our smallest and, believe it or not, they narrowed it down to the largest and smallest dogs they saw! It took some time for them to sort things out, but they decided that our little Hawaiian girl, Lita (nka Mia) was the one for them (we actually weren’t too surprised when the husband told us that she looked pretty cold while they were outside so he picked her up and zipped her up in his jacket!!!).
