Ethan, Rupert

March 22, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Ethan

Ethan with his new dad & mom, Michael and Mackenzie

This couple that came to the kennel was looking to adopt their first dog together. He grew up with Bernese Mountain Dogs and, while she did not grow up with dogs, she has been around them a lot and has been doing turnout at the kennel to get to know the greys. They told us that they wanted a big boy and since that describes almost all of the purebred dogs that we have, we actually had quite a few possibilities for them. The lady had a favorite from doing turnout and it turned out that our Irish lad, Ethan, also turned out to be the man’s favorite so he headed out the door to his new home!!!

Rupert

Rupert (left), nka Maximus, with his new family, Rashad, Jan, Muna (middle & fka Ramona) & Amir (fka Bud)

This couple has adopted 3 dogs from us before and they usually have a very good idea of what dog they want before they come to the kennel. In general, they seem to be drawn to the big, goofy boys and there was no question that they were interested in one of those for their 4th grey. They currently have 2 greys — Muna who is 12 and was fka Ramona & Amir who is 4 and fka Bud. Both dogs were missing the brother they recently lost and Amir, in particular, really needed a new playmate. Well, he got one — our stunning, blue Irish laddie, Rupert (nka Maximillian)!!

Lady, Plato, Phil, Maggie, Fiona, Namsha, Hawk

Lady

Lady with her new mom, Shelley

The first adoption was to a woman that lives in Sequim and from the pictures I saw, this dog found a darn good home with a big yard, gorgeous water views, neighbor dogs to play with and a mom to give her all the attention she needs. This dog was the first one that the woman met and, even though she met a few other dogs, she really didn’t need to meet any others because she knew that the sweet lassie from Ireland, Lady, was meant to be hers immediately!!!

Plato

Plato (left) with his new family, Mac & Rosie (fka Spring)

This person was a man who has a 6 year old girl named Rosie (fka Spring). He was under the impression that Rosie needed a new buddy (although, Rosie was still trying to decide if she wants to share — she is very attached to her dad). Nevertheless, we introduced her to a few of our greyt boys and both Rosie and her dad took a liking to our most handsome dark brindle boy, Plato!!!

Phil

Phil with his new parents, Matt & Dayna

In the past 2 years, we have only been able to send one dog to Canada and that was just recently. Thankfully, things have started to ease at the border and we sent the first of what we hope will be many dogs to Canada!!! This couple has been watching our website for two years and watching dogs come and go and waiting for their turn to adopt. It finally came and they had a wonderful time getting to know the dogs in hopes that one might be a potential family member. It’s not unusual for one family member to be drawn to one dog while the other person connects with another dog and that is what happened with this couple. Luckily, they were able to reach a decision amicably and they were off to Canada with their new family member, Phil (a handsome black lad from Ireland).

Maggie

Maggie with her new mom, Judith

This lady recently lost her most recent Greyhound and has been lonely and missing that wonderful Greyhound energy in her home. She came looking for a calm female. At this time, we don’t have any dogs in our kennel that you would call calm but we did come up with a few girls that came kinda close to meeting that description. After spending time with each of them, she decided that our little brindle girl from the American Lurcher Project, Maggie, was going to be her new furry friend!

Fiona

Fiona with her new family, Gina, David, Scabies (middle) & Lord Toast

This appointment was with a couple who have a Chihuahua and a Pug. They actually came in wanting one of our other dogs but we were a nervous about how that dog reacted to the small dogs. While they were there, they saw our newest pup (who by the way is absolutely adorable!!!) and fell in love almost immediately — the only thing we had to do was make sure that this dog got along with the little ones. We did introduce all the dogs and were very pleased with how everyone got along. Did I mention that this couple was so lucky that they saw this dog first — she has claimed the hearts of almost everyone that has met her and we knew she would not be with us for long? So, as soon as we knew all the pups got along, the couple decided that Miss Fiona, our latest arrival from South Korea, had to be a member of their family!!

Namsha

Namsha with her new parents, Inna & Eli

This couple moved here last summer from Israel with their Greyhound mix. They recently lost that dog and were looking for an American version of their dog. Honestly, we have never shown a wider variety of dogs before — purebreds, Greyhound mixes, Saluki mixes and true mixes. After that parade of dogs, these people definitely had to work hard to make a decision. Interestingly, instead of an American dog, they finally settled on a cute black & white Saluki mix from the UAE, Namsha!!

Hawk

Hawk (left) with his new family, Susan and Lexi

This person who came to the kennel was a woman from Canada who was looking for her eighth Greyhound. Her current Grey, 12 year old Lexi from Macau, has been lost without the brother she lost about a month ago and her mom was thinking that they both needed a new friend. Since her mother told us that Lexi was very particular about the dogs with whom she keeps company, we weren’t quite sure what dog was going to work for her. Luckily, Miss Lexi seemed to think that our handsome black boy from Ireland, Hawk, was a pretty special guy and he would do just fine as her new brother.

Juniper: March Dog of the Month

March 7, 2022

Please contact Moira Corrigan ([email protected]) for more information about Juniper

Juniper
Tag No: 6825
Registered Name: None
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Date of Birth: Approx April 2020
Color: Fawn/White
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: No young children
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments: I hope you watched my video (at the end of this page) — one of my trainers was playing tag with me and you can easily see how much FUN I am!!!

My name is Juniper and I can’t wait to tell you all about myself! Because a kennel in Woodinville was kind enough to help me, I moved from California. However, I ended up in a place where people come to meet Greyhounds and they don’t have much interest in dogs that aren’t Greyhounds. Well, I may not be a Greyhound, but I am a pretty special girl!!

There are so many things that I love to do that I can’t list them all but … I’ll try. I’m learning to fetch (& I even give it back), food toys are so much fun that my caretakers usually give me my meals in a food toy. Puzzles really make me think and it doesn’t take me long to figure them out. I know commands such as sit, down, shake, touch!! I am still working on my manners and they are improving!!! I walk well on a leash and I love to go on walks and explore the world. I think a run once in a while is really fun!! I know how to make my person feel really special … I lean on them, cuddle, give kisses & give them all my attention!

In the interest of full disclosure, I do have to say that there are a few things I am still working on. I may be a little nervous when I first meet you (and I may even bark at you) but as soon as I figure out that you are okay, I can be your best friend! I am really strong but my trainers are helping me learn not to pull too much. The trainers are even going give my new owner 4 free lessons just to make sure that we get off on the best foot possible!

I guess you also need to know the basics … I am about 2 years old and I was hit by a car which left me with a small head tilt (which just makes me cuter in my opinion)!! I have hip dysplasia which could need surgery at some time in the future but there is no way to know whether or not that will ever be needed. As of right now, I am just fine!

I am NOT a Greyhound — I look kind of like a retriever and my DNA test showed that I am 45% German Shepherd, 42% Staffordshire Terrier, 11% American Pit Bull Terrier & 2% cattle dog. If you are looking for a new family member to be your shadow, partner and very best friend, I think you better come meet me!! (PLEASE!!!)

Luke, Latifa, Tamarin, Jack, Dawn, Lenny

March 7, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Luke

Luke, nka Stud, with his new dad, Sam

It happens more often than we would like — sometimes it takes some of our dogs quite a while to find their person, but, thankfully, their adoption day does eventually come. This guy has been with us for some time and a short while ago, a man came to do turnout and when he took this dog out, he realized he had met a greyt dog. He made it a point to take him out for turnout whenever he came and also made an appointment with our trainer to help him learn how to best handle the dog and to learn the kinds of things the dog would need in a home. Interestingly, this man lived in South Korea for a while and Luke, nka Stud, is from South Korea — it sounds like they were meant to be together!

Latifa

Latifa with her new parents, Jenn & Rich

This adoption appointment could have been over in about 5 minutes because the couple immediately fell in love with the dog they ended up adopting. They did decide to meet a few of our other dogs, but, those dogs never had a chance. This particular dog has only been here two weeks and, truthfully, we were surprised she was at the kennel this long. She is a beautiful, blue brindle from Ireland with a sweet, calm personality and, P.S. she has wonderful soft bunny fur!!! Needless to say, this couple was extremely excited to take Latifa home with them!!!

Tamarin

Tamarin, left, (nka Ginger) with her new family…Elijah, Rohie & Buddy (fka Crisper)

The next dog that got adopted wasn’t even in the kennel for a whole week!! A while back, this family decided that they wanted dogs and they planned to adopt two dogs , one for each of their twin daughters. They already had one of our dogs from Hawaii, Crisper, who is now known as Buddy, and when they heard that we had recently gotten another dog from Hawaii, they were very interested. This adorable little girl has never met a stranger and she is so happy all the time — her tail never stops wagging!! She got along with everybody in the family, including Buddy and two cats, so it was no surprise that the family couldn’t wait to make Tamarin, nka Ginger, part of their family!!

Jack

Jack (nka Solomon/Saul for short) (left) with his new family… Joni & Twyla (fka Dewey)

This lady recently lost one of her Greys and she thought that the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for her remaining 11 year old Greyhound, Twyla (fka Dewey), was to get her a brother. Twyla seemed to know just what she was looking for and she picked one of our sweet boys who has been with us for quite a while. He is pretty shy, but he has come so far with the training he has been getting and we were so proud of him when he came out to meet Twyla. They hit it off very quickly and we think that Twyla was excited to teach Jack (nka Solomon/Saul for short) all the things he will need to know in his new home!!!

Dawn

Dawn (left) with her new family… Jackie, Trent, Emily & Charley

The last time this family adopted from us, they were just about to have a baby and now, that baby, Trent,  is 5 years old. They decided that their current Greyhound, Charley, was ready for a companion and so were they. They came looking for a relatively calm dog and while we don’t have a lot of those, the ones we do have did a greyt job of showing off. It all boiled down to two of the new Irish dogs — a male who really was extremely calm and a female who was pretty bouncy but settled down pretty well after a while. After playing with both dogs outside and watching how they played with Trent, — one played a little and then pretty much ignored Trent & Charley — the other bounced all over everywhere and interacted with everybody and even knew how to control herself as she ran up to Trent and stopped just short of him every time. After watching the performances, they did have to discuss the decision, but, it didn’t take much discussion to decide that the black Irish lassie, Dawn, would be the best fit for their family.

Lenny

Lenny with his new dad, Kyle

Last week I got a note from a man asking if a specific dog was still available. When I told him yes, he asked if he could do his application and get his home visit done quickly. We are generally able to move as quickly or slowly as a potential adopter wants so had no problem getting things done.  When he came to the kennel, he knew the dog he wanted and it was fun watching the two of them get acquainted. This particular dog came to us from South Korea and he had a very hard start in life so we couldn’t be happier that he has found a new dad (and as a bonus, a new grandmother and aunt)! We have no doubt that Lenny is going to have all the spoiling and love that he so deserves!!!!
