Trey, Adonis, Solo, Luna, Charleston, Halley, Korra, Woody

May 30, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Trey

Trey with his new parents, Michelle & Darren

The Canadian border has finally opened and our first, of what we hope will be many, adopters left the kennel to head north with their new buddy. When this couple saw their dog-to-be on the internet, they fell in love with him before they even met him and they were sure he was the one for them. When they actually met him, they fell even more in love and the dog decided they were pretty special too. This was the perfect day for this guy to be adopted because he came to our kennel exactly one year ago!! All of us are so excited that Trey has found his new family … he’s been waiting such a long time and they finally arrived!!!

Adonis

Adonis with his new family … Tyler, Charlotte & Russ

I think that some of the dogs who have been here a while hold back a little when they are shown to prospective adopters. Maybe it’s because they don’t want to be disappointed or who knows what. But, when they start to let their guard down and allow the people to see what they are really like, it is really quite touching. That’s what happened with this dog, it took a little while, but when he looked his mother to be right in the eye, they both knew that his adoption was practically a done deal. There is no doubt that Adonis will be a cherished and spoiled family member!!

Solo

Solo (right) with his new family … Etienne, Deborah & Charlie (fka Bug)

This couple has had one of our hounds, Charlie (fka Bug), for about 4 years and lately she has acted like she needed a buddy. So, now that the border to Canada is finally open, they decided to come meet some dogs. We introduced them to some great dogs and Charlie let us know very quickly which one she wanted. The guy they picked has been around a while and he has missed being the adopted dog many times (he had the “bridesmaid” role down pat). But this time, he was the “bride” and he acted like he just knew it was going to be his turn!! Solo and his new sister make quite a pair – two beautiful fawns — they’ll be stopping traffic in Canada for sure!!

Luna

Luna (right) with her new mom, Lue & fur sister Mocha

This particular dog could have been adopted about 10 times by now!! We need to clone her. But, the lady who was lucky enough to get her knew what she wanted and she moved fast to get all the adoption qualifying steps done so that she would be first in line when this dog was ready to be adopted!! Of course there were some hurdles to get past — namely a 10 year old Whippet named Mocha that would live in the same house, and 2 very small old dogs that the daughter owns. Thankfully, this little girl from Hawaii passed all the challenges with flying colors and now Luna is getting settled in her new home!!

Charleston

Charleston (nka Charlie) with his new family, Liz, Rich, Phoebe (middle) & Danica (right)

When you are living in a place full of Greyhounds and you don’t look anything like a Greyhound, it is pretty hard to get adopted. But, this guy waited & waited and his people finally found their way to the kennel. This couple has had quite a few of our dogs, many of which needed some special attention, and they have done an amazing job with them. I have to say that when they came to meet this guy, he put on the best performance I have seen from him in the whole time he has been with us. He was not only excited to meet his new parents, but also his new playmates, Phoebe and Danica. Charleston (nka Charlie) got everything we hoped for him including a big yard where he could play with his new buddies.

Halley

Halley is now known as Harley

This particular lady has been interested in our older dogs and has fostered and adopted a few in the past years. Recently she adopted a beautiful older girl named Bella and, at the time, she mentioned that she would like to have 2 dogs. So, when we had another older lady come back to the kennel, she was the first person we thought of as a possible adopter. Thankfully, she was all for it and the two dogs got along greyt so Haley, nka Harley, now has a new home, fur sister and mom!! (No family photo available)

Korra

Korra, fka Homie & nka Kayley, with her new parents Shana & Barry

For a variety of reasons, the next couple have been waiting 17 months for their new dog. The Canadian border problems was the biggest obstacle and now that it has opened, it was possible for the couple to come down to meet dogs. They weren’t sure they were completely ready for a new addition, but, sometimes, opportunity knocks and you have to move fast. We got a return last Friday that was perfect for this couple and, thankfully, they realized they had to commit quickly to make this adoption happen. (It’s a good thing they did because we have had a lot of interest in this dog!!) They pulled everything together in a couple of days and they showed up to pick up their new girl with huge smiles and left with even bigger ones! Their gorgeous red girl who is now named Kayley, fka Homie then Korra, couldn’t wait to get out the door and on her way to her new home.

Woody

Woody, nka Gizmo, with his new mom Dionne

For those of us who love having big dogs, it is hard when you come to the realization that it might be time to downsize a little. This particular lady not only downsized a little – she downsized a lot!!! She went from a Greyhound to an Italian Greyhound! This cute little blue fawn guy from South Korea stole her heart the minute she met him so there was no doubt that Woody, nka Gizmo, was going to be heading home with her.

Comments:  Cosette is Miss Personality!!  She is fun, upbeat and playful!   She is friendly and cute!!   Cosette will need an active home with a 6 foot fenced yard - this girl loves to run!  Cosette will need a home without cats or small dogs.  When she gets spun up she can get nippy so we don't recommend her with young children.  We are working with her and she is eager to learn.  Cosette came to us from South Korea.

AJ, Jack, Duke, Keeley, Doris

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

AJ

AJ (left) with her new family … Sarah, Steven & August (fka Ponce)

The dog that was adopted has had a long journey to her new home. She came to us with a broken leg and after numerous attempts to save the leg, we finally had to amputate it. Since that day, we met a new dog that was happy, carefree and bouncy. She has been able to enjoy being a dog and romping all over everywhere. And, now she has found her new family that includes a mom, dad & furry brother, August (fka Ponce). Now our sweet little brindle girl, AJ, has a whole family to love her and a big yard to play in — I don’t think she could have asked for more!!!

Jack

Jack (left) with his new family … Karin, Jason & Denali

Our dogs are very resilient, but sometimes we come across one that has been through more changes than it can handle. The boy that got adopted was the victim of a divorce. They brought him to us and he has had a hard time with kennel life. He just looked so sad while he was with us. That just changed!! When he met his new family, he perked up almost immediately and acted like he knew they were his. He got a new mom, dad and fur brother and reports have it that he immediately felt at home. Just a couple of hours after he got home, Jack was playing with toys and romping around — it is so much fun to think of him that way!!!

Duke

Duke, nka Albert or Bertie for short, with his new dad, Matt

For those of you who have experienced Separation Anxiety with your dogs, you will be able to identify with this man. He got a dog from us about a year ago, Willow fka Keota, and since he got her, even though he has tried numerous things, he has not been able to leave her alone. Recently, he decided to try adding another dog and we introduced him and Willow to a couple of our gorgeous fawn boys. The guy with whom she had the best connection has been with us for quite a while and we thought him to be a little shy and lacking self-confidence. Interestingly, when he was with Willow, those characteristics were much less visible. Willow was enjoying her new brother so much she hardly realized when her dad left and the man was actually able to go out for a cup of coffee without worrying about his dog!!! Duke (nka Albert/Bertie for short) has been a wonderful addition to this home and is already much loved and appreciated!!!

Keeley

Keeley with her new dad, Steven

Every once in a while we get a dog that barely makes it in the door before it heads back out again. That’s what happened this week. When we let people know we had this dog, we got lots of interest and the first people that responded couldn’t get in the car to come get her fast enough — they were so excited. They have had quite a few of our dogs and one of their current dogs is a 2 year old black AKC male that could almost be a twin for our little 4 month old black AKC girl. We think that Keeley is going to be very busy playing with her new friends and keeping her dads hopping!!!

Doris

Doris (right) with her new family … Cady, John & Eames fka Beige

This couple adopted one of our dogs, Beige (nka Eames), about a year ago and he has had some difficulty with separation anxiety. They have been working with our trainer and have made progress but they finally decided it was time to try adding another dog. They completely lucked out because they contacted me right after a beautiful fawn girl was returned so they were first in line for her. She’s not only beautiful, she has a personality to match which meant that she appealed to practically everyone! I can’t tell you how many people have been interested in adopting her but I had to tell them to get in line. It’s fortunate that this family realized what a gem they found before it was too late and they decided that Doris was the one for them!!

Adonis
Tag No: 6850
Registered Name: Slatex Adonis
Breed: Greyhound
Date of Birth:  February 8, 2018
Color: Red
Cat Trainable: No
Dog Friendly: Ok with greyhounds, No Small Dogs
Kid Friendly: No young children
Location: Woodinville, WA (Kennel)
Comments:  Adonis is a friendly, confident, happy, upbeat boy.  He is active and playful.  Adonis loves his walks.  He loves to play and also loves neck scritches.  He is curious about anything new and acts like a puppy.  He loves to play with other medium to large sized dogs.   Adonis has lived in a home briefly, but did not get along with the adult daughter who was in the home periodically.  Adonis is a big boy and his new family must be able to handle a dog of his size and confidence.  We do not recommend him with young children as he has shown some signs of being a little protective of his space when lying down.

Adonis is looking for his very own sponsor.  If you'd like more information, see: https://greyhoundpetsinc.org/support/sponsor-a-dog/

Filed Under: Adopted!, Dog of the Month

Rivers, Biddy, Slim, Aimee

April 15, 2022

Join us here as Regional Vice President Kathy Kreyling shares stories from the Adoption Center. Check out our Available Dogs to see who’s still waiting for their forever home.

Rivers

Rivers with her new family … Norah, Josh & Deacon

This family came hoping that they would be able to adopt a particular dog and, honestly, we just weren’t sure whether it would work out or not for two reasons — the mother of the adopter has an 11 year old Rat Terrier and the family includes two children (aged 6 & 10). So, in preparation for this appointment, we introduced that dog (and a few others) to a small fluffy dog —obviously not a good replica for a Rat Terrier but it was the best we could do at the time — and the results were not particularly encouraging. However, when we introduced the dog to the real Rat Terrier, she did very well! Because the dog is pretty timid, the next challenge was to see how she got along with the children and, thankfully, she had a wonderful time playing with the kids — she even initiated the playtime with a play bow!! We were all excited that the dog did so well and we were even happier when the family decided that Rivers was going to be their new family member!

Biddy

Biddy with her new family … Michael, Everett, Emmett & Sara

This family has been waiting a long time because they needed a cat friendly dog and we haven’t had any for a while. I think this family now understands the phrase that “good things come to those who wait” because the dog they came to meet is a very special girl. The family includes 2 boys, aged 4 and 9, and the 9 year old connected with this Irish lass almost immediately — in fact, the cutest moment I have seen in our adoption center was when I went to run the credit card and I heard something. It turned out that the 9 year old boy was sitting on the floor next to the dog patting and singing softly to her. That scene was so sweet it almost made me cry and I knew then that Biddy was going to be in good hands!!!

Slim

Slim with his new parents, Hydeia & Bryan

This couple have also been waiting a while and they were excited to finally have the chance to meet some pups. They had a specific dog in mind when they came to visit but also wanted to meet a few others so we brought out a few of our great big boys. All of our boys did a greyt job of showing themselves off, but, in the end, it was our most exuberant boy who left the building (BTW, this was not the one they thought they would adopt). This guy came out into the adoption center hopping on two feet but that didn’t seem to phase this couple and they waited long enough to see the sweet loving guy emerge when he settled down. He showered the people with kisses and showed off his leaning skills and there was little doubt that Slim had found his new parents!!

Aimee

Aimee (left) with her new family … Sarah, Mary Catherine & Cali

This lady has had a couple of our dogs and she recently fell in love with one of our dogs from afar. It has taken a while for everything to fall into place so that the adoption could actually take place — the dog was in another home for a short time and when she came back there was a virus running through the kennel and, of course, the dog got it. There seem to have been quite a few bumps in the road, but things have smoothed out now and the beautiful Greyhound/Staghound mix (we think!) from South Korea has found her new home.  We’ve had reports that she gave her new mom kisses on her way home and I think that says that Aimee knows she is where she belongs!!
